'Silvy's house' is a newly restored apartment in the heart of Florence.
It is located on the main and oldest street of Florence: Via Calzaiuoli.
In just a few steps you are at the Dome or at Piazza Signoria.
The apartment (50 mq) is on the 4th floor (80 steps) and like many old buildings in the historical center, there is no the elevator; good way to walk off the wonderful pasta that you will be eating!! Assistance to help with the luggage is provided upon arrival.
The apartment has a living room with a sofa, a wooden loft with a king size bed, and a bedroom with a king size bed (or two singles) a kitchen and a bathroom. The apartment is equipped with a brand new Air Conditioning.
The Academia, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Or San Michele, Santa Croce, Via Tornabuoni, Dante house are only a few minutes by walk.
The best icecrem and Pizza are just outside the door. Piazza della Repubblica with its bar is right around the corner.
You must visit Florence once in your life !!!
This is a long overdue review for Silvy. We stayed in the apartment back in end of June and start of July in 2016. The location couldn't have been any better. It's on the main pedestrian street through the heart of Florence from the Duomo to the Ponte Vecchio. We couldn't have hoped for a better location. It's nice to be walking down the street with so many people around you and you're the family that walks into this beautiful, large, but anonymous door while everyone kind of stares at you wondering who you know to be staying here. :-)
The apartment itself was perfect for us. We were a family of 3. My wife and I had the main bedroom. My daughter loved the loft. The loft had 2 beds and would be great if you had 2 children. We took advantage of the laundry. The washer was much needed as we came from a hotel in Lake Como and the typical Florence summer was causing the clean clothes to get rather sweaty very quickly. We also used the kitchen for preparing light snacks and keeping cold drinks waiting for our return.
We ran into an issue with the air conditioning during our stay. Silvy was great in trying to help get the situation resolved and we even had a visit from the hotel staff across the street who knew Silvy. Being American and traveling a ton for business, I would never expect the hotel staff to be that friendly and accommodating. Even with Silvy telling us as we started our rental that the hotel staff would help us out, I didn't believe it. Anyone who's stayed at a hotel in the USA will probably concur that almost all of that staff would not help an apartment rental across the street. Well, I found out the hard way that with Silvy, they will.
Other than the air conditioning hiccup, our stay here was awesome. We walked everywhere as we were centrally located. And the hiccup was handled with the concern and attention I would hope for. Not everything goes perfectly and what you hope for is an attentive owner who is concerned with fixing the problem. Silvy met the mark on that front. She truly wanted us to be comfortable and have a great time in her city.
The one warning is that this is an ancient building with no elevator. Be prepared to walk up several flights. Silvy (and I apologize that I now forget her husbands name) was incredibly helpful as we arrived with helping with bags. But it is a number of steps up. Nothing hidden in the description. We knew what we were getting into. Helped burn the calories :-)
This is a lovely and homey apartment. The owner moves out and you move in. She leaves everything for your convenience. We loved our stay here. Now, we lived in NYC and are used to stairs. So be aware it's a walk-up - there's no elevator. But it makes up for this with comfort and location - between the Doumo and Palazzo Vecchio. Our favorite restaurant in the city is around the corner - Hosteria da Ganino, Piazza dei Cimatori, 4. Sit with the locals inside -- you'll get better service. And don't miss the Mercato Centrale for lunch EVERYDAY.
Perfect location, right in center of Florence next to Dome on busy street. Not too much noise at night though, didn't have any trouble sleeping. 5 floors to climb stairs which wasn't easy even for us, but we were expecting that so it wasn't a deal breaker, especially for the location. Very cute apartment with a lovely loft. The big difference were the hosts, they were so unbelievably nice and friendly. Took the time to show us each room and explain everything, even provided a map and circled out important points and their recommendations of Florence. They were so wonderful! Clean apartment and Would definitely recommend this apartment, just not for those with difficulty walking/climbing stairs.
My husband, daughter and I stayed 11 wonderful days in this awesome apartment. It was wonderful having the loft, and we found our location to be the absolute best for proximity to train, bus station and the many sights we enjoyed. We were greeted by the lovely Silvy and her kind husband, Roberto who patiently spoke with our daughter in Italian. We enjoyed the wonderful bottle of Chianti and then we were on our way to 11 days of just sheer delight. We managed to be in Florence for the Festa della Rificolona - what fun!!! We loved seeing "David" at the Accademia. We did the Hidden Staircase tour of the Palace Vecchio and even managed to be there the one day of the year when the workshop of the Opera del Duomo is opened to the public. I could go on and on. We enjoyed the Mercato Centrale, San Croce neighborhood, and then we crossed the Arno River and explored the Piazza San Spirito before heading to San Miniato Church for Vespers and the most amazing view of Florence. Here also is the Piazzale Michelangelo. We ate at the most wonderful restaurants, La Giostra being one of them. Shopping was so fun and evenings listening to music in the Piazza della Signoria was off the chart. Side trips to Siena, Assisi & Cortona added to our wonderful vacation. Upon reading "The Agony and the Ecstasy" several times, I came here looking for the streets, churches and places where Michelangelo spent part of his life and I found them! I walked these streets, sat in the churches he attended and was buried in and breathed the air of Florence. This was a bucket list trip and we managed to fill it up with just living in Florence with the locals. Thank you Silvy and Roberto. Your home was our home away from home. Your beds were the best and your linens were lovely and so crisp. You are such gracious hosts. We felt like you were family the moment we met you! God bless. If you come to America and back to Georgia, we welcome you!
My wife and I stayed in the Via Calzaiuoli apartment with my son and his wife and our 16 month old grandson for three nights in September. The bedroom was large enough for the three of them and my wife and I slept in the loft, which worked well. The beds were large and comfortable and the A/C worked well. The flat was large enough to feel comfortable and there was no noise from the street at all. We did not cook in the kitchen, but we did use the washing machine, which was great as we were several days into our trip. The location is absolutely perfect, a block from the Cathedral and walking distance to everything. The owner met us when we arrived and gave us a great orientation, and the hotel across the street helped us arrange a car in Naples to take us to Positano for the next leg of our trip. The flat is a 4th floor walk up with no lift, which was fine for us. The location is ideal and is great for either one or two couples and is a great value. We would definitely stay here again!
Silvy and Roberto were very responsive and accommodating. Their apartment is lovely and well stocked with essentials. It was perfect for our family of four and centrally located. It is situated among shops, food and local sights. So much to do and see in Florence and having this apartment as our home base was ideal. I would definitely stay again and would most certainly recommend. The apartment is located several floors up but even my 4 year old didn't seem to mind the walk after a long day sightseeing and eating.
