About Matthew Kepley

Nikki and I met in high school but never dated until college. I played baseball at Catawba College and Nikki started her career as a cosmetologist in Raleigh, NC. After tying the knot in October of 2011 we began saving for our dream home. We figured it would be years before we were able to go shopping for a place on Badin Lake. However, by some miracle, we came across this little cottage and fell in love.

Matthew Kepley purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Matthew Kepley chose North Carolina Piedmont

We are weekend warriors. After working hard all week we pack up the Jeep and take off to anywhere fun and exciting. We had been visiting friends at Badin Lake for 5 years until we decided it was time to stop crashing on couches and find our own place. Out of all the places we have been, this is our favorite by far.

Cute little cottage on the lake

  • 5 of 5

This place was as described in other reviews; small but big enough, generous amounts of linens, as well as many little things you may have forgotten. I found everything I needed to cook all our meals. The decor inside is super cute.

We enjoyed fishing off the dock (caught two large catfish!), grilling out and eating all our meals outside, making s'mores in the fire pit and lazing around on the deck. The bugs weren't as bad as I had expected. You'll enjoy your stay :)

As advertised.

The house is comfortable and decorated very nicely. Instead of a strict rental, it feels more like the owners use the house often and treat it well so there are many nice touches and it feels homey and welcoming. Sitting on the decks was wonderful and they tended to have a lot of shade through the day. We ate at the picnic table on the dock at breakfast and lunch and on the deck at dinner. Thank you for leaving some essentials in the house, which was very helpful in case we forgot something. The lake is beautiful, with lots of coves to stop and swim. We walked a little in Uwharrie forest one day, we picnicked there from the boat one day, fished, paddle boarded, and tubed every day. It's a very quiet area so it was quite relaxing. There is no wireless in the house, which in many ways made it more relaxing and kept my two kids off screens. We had two nice dinners in Albemarle at Off the Square and Log Cabin Barbecue, about 20 min drive from the house. The gentleman at Blue Way Outfitters seems very experienced and helpful. Although the house is small, full-sized refrigerator, stove, kitchen sink, and bathroom shower were all appreciated. The sheets and towels were fine. There were enough different pillows around that we all found one to sleep comfortably at night. There were not nearly as many bugs as I had thought. Although the houses are crowded close together in this particular cove, not many people were in them through the week and there really weren't an overwhelming number on the weekend either. There was plenty of power boat and jet ski traffic right in front of the house at certain times, but it was often quiet also. Most boaters seemed respectful of people on paddle boards, swimming, and when tubers and skiers were in the water. Overall we had a very nice week and would recommend it as a great little getaway with lots of opportunities to rest and nice recreation literally right outside the door.

The perfect retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My cousins and I stayed here for a recent girls' weekend, after not having seen each other since we were kids. It was just perfect. After taking an overnight flight from the West Coast, Matt was so accommodating and let me in a few hours early. My cousins and I were up to the wee hours, hanging in the hot tub, enjoying the camp fire, and laughing like kids. I finally crashed and slept for 12 hours straight in the super comfy bed, but woke to the smell of fresh coffee (the pot is provided!) and my family already out on the dock laughing. Bliss! We spent hours upon hours rocking in the chairs out on the dock, talking about life. The water is warm enough to spend the day floating in a tube. Each night I cooked for us and we ate at the picnic table outside. The kitchen was reasonably well appointed, we even found a crock pot and a cookie sheet. We could not figure out how to get the DVD player to work (no instructions), but we just spent more time hanging out in the living area with all the doors open for that 'lake house' feel. I would suggest you bring citronella candles- those weren't provided. Everything else was there, even a laundry room! Come with good friends and be ready for a great time.

Beautiful Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Kepley Cottage! The house was stocked with everything you would need or want. We own a boat so the dock area is where we spent quite a bit of time. We also enjoyed the hot tub which was great. My only suggestion would be to pressure wash the dock area, it was extremely slick at night. We will definitely be returning for another long weekend!!
