great location and place to stay
If you are over 6 ft tall be careful of your head as it has low stairwells and the stairs are steep but what a great place. Thanks for the hospitality.
Quirky, characterful but not very convenient
Vieux Port is a beautiful setting, the gardens are lovely, and the pictures on the website are very appealing but it is not made at all clear that the house is on 5 floors with steep steps to access each floor. Our party of 4 are retired but not elderly or infirm and we had to be careful. Apart from breakfast, we ate out as the gloomy kitchen facilities in the basement did not lend themselves to preparing full meals. It was fortunate there was a dishwasher as there were no teatowels. We requested bedlinen and towels as we were travelling, for which we paid an extra 15e each. We felt this was rather expensive as we were given only one bath towel each (no hand towel) and the sheets were old and mismatched. Communication was difficult as Bernard's English was minimal and our French was limited, although he did try to be helpful. The area is lovely - we visited Jumieges Abbey, Deauville, Honfleur and Etretat - but we were disappointed in the accommodation, especially compared with other places we stayed on our journey.
Beautiful, peaceful and comfortable
We had a wonderful stay in Normandy. Bernard and Chantal were warm, helpful and welcoming hosts and as they spoke very little English, I was able to practice my French which was fun. My husband and I were traveling with our two kids, 10 and 8, and the size of the house and bedrooms was perfect for our needs. The setting with The Seine River outside our window in the tiny, quaint village of Vieux-Port was dream-like. We spent one morning just wandering around the villages, and I highly recommend. There is a ton to do in northern Normandy and we took day trips each day to, Etratat, Omaha Beach, Honfleur and a tour along the Seine- while these were all worth the visit, we practically lived in the car, which was tiring. If you go for longer (we only had 5 days) you could spread out the day trips and spend more time relaxing at the house. One recommendation— bring food with you before your arrivall as the nearest supermarket is not nearby and doesn’t stay open very late. Overall, we highly recommend this gite and hope to visit again some day.
Absolutely beautiful gite in Normandy in the small village of Vieux-Port. The village has a small church, strolls by the river and not much else to disturb you. If you want tranquility then this is definitely the place for you. Being able to stay in a 15th century, thatched cottage is frankly pleasure in itself. The site has all the mod cons i.e. microwave, freezer, washer but still retains the charm of the historic cottage. It must be said that Bernard is a delight, helpful (when we needed a quick trip to the Drs) and yet not invasive - your privacy is assured. Rouen Cathedral, Bayeaux, cider & calvados distillery and Normandy beaches all in fairly easy reach. Well worth the visit! We'll be back.
Beautiful holiday home you don't want to leave
We spend 10 days at Les Fauvettes and fully enjoyed every single of them. Our 3 year old daughter loved the garden, and although the beach turned out to be a bit further away than stated in the description (ca. 50 min), we didn't miss to go there more often but happily stayed in the garden, relaxing and eating fruit that literally was falling directly into our hands. Bernard and Chantal are charming and very discrete hosts, always ready to help with everything we needed. Lovely day trip destinations like Rouen, Honfleur, Giverny or the CERZA Zoo are within an hour of drive. It was the most relaxing holiday we ever had.
