Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Charente-Maritime - Le Manoir de La Foye

1 double bedroom, 1 Twin bedroom, 1 bathroom,1 shower room, sleeps 4

LE MANOIR DE LA FOYE. This is one of 5 charming, spacious, two bedroom and three bedroom stone gite in an enclosed courtyard, beautifully cool in the summertime yet cosy in the winter. Le Gite du Portail has a large, partially shaded garden with extensive views over lovely open countryside. The gite and courtyard is approached through grand entrance gates. Within the estate are large gardens, a summer kitchen & pool with extensive patios with plenty of room to lounge, many trees and the remains of an historic cognac distillery. The region is renowned for its fresh produce, oysters, cheese, cognac and friendly people. A gloriously tranquil, unspoilt setting, perfect for French country living and a relaxed, refreshing holiday. The nearby Forest of Aulnay is perfect for a stroll or bicycle ride. There are numerous restaurants in the area where you can while away your time soaking in the atmosphere. We have a combined 38 years in the business to ensure you have a memorable holiday.

The owners: Nick & Chania run this gite which have been lovingly converted and upgraded into very comfortable accommodation. A property that was formerly a cognac distillery now includes a swimming pool with sun terraces hot tub, large gardens, paddocks and an orchard of walnut trees.

Thank you Nick and Chania for your first class hospitality and superb Gîte. We've all had a fantastic holiday and enjoyed meeting new friends. The children loved the barn (Sale de Jour) and the freedom that La Foye offers. Monday night BBQ's are an experience not to be missed! We hope to come back soon.

Simon, Sandra, Matt and Jono - Berkshire. August 2009.

Charming, extremely well equipped gîte. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. Great market in Aulnay, particularly the oysters!

Helen Dominic Samuel and Grace. La Grange. Summer 2008.

Le Gite du Portail: The gite has been modernized recently to a very high standard offering spacious accommodation. Le Gite du Portail is surprisingly large inside with thick stone walls making it beautifully cool in summer and very cosy in the winter time. On the ground floor is a comfortable, roomy lounge/dining room with two sofas, two armchairs, a dining table and chairs. Coffee tables, table lamps, standard lamp, plus rugs and a charming ornamental fireplace complete the picture. British digital Satellite TV is provided with video/DVD facilities. A library of videos, DVDs and books is available for guests.

A charming dining area is available out front, with sunsets to die for. The attractive and practical kitchen with its 200 year old stone floor and beamed wooden ceiling offers plenty of storage. There's a new gas hob with extract hood, Bosch electric oven/microwave combo, Bosch dishwasher, kettle, toaster and fridge. In fact everything you could want to make that perfect French holiday.

Le Manoir de La Foye is very near to the town of Aulnay and within easy reach of the A10 autotoute (J 33 & J34) giving full access to the Channel ports. We are within a few minutes drive to the small town of Néré with its friendly Bistrot & Bar run by a delightful English couple, known for its excellent food and refreshments. We are just 1 hour from la Rochelle & Poitiers.

Located in the small town of Néré, which is only a few minutes drive from Vinax, there is a baker, butcher, hairdresser, chemist, bank and a Co-op supermarket. And just a short journey in any direction finds many more quaint villages and towns that support open air markets, shops, restaurants and historic churches. The main towns in the region are: Angouleme, Chef Boutonne, Cognac, Dampierre, La Rochelle, Limoges, Poitiers (for Futuroscope), Saintes and St. Jean d'Angély.

About Nick & Chania Coveyduck

We are Nick and Chania and between us we have over fifty years of experience in owning and running self-catering businesses.

We now own and run this beautiful complex of five gîtes in the Charente Maritime. We know holidays are very important so it is our aim to make sure that everything is perfect so that you have a relaxing and memorable visit to France.

Nick & Chania Coveyduck purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Nick & Chania Coveyduck chose Charente-Maritime

Having spent 16 years developing and improving our last property in Devon we wanted a new challenge and better weather.

We spent three years looking as far afield as Australia & Canada but when we saw Le Manoir we just knew it was right for us. The climate is just perfect.

The property was formerly a Cognac distillery, which has now been converted into this delightful complex, including a heated swimming pool with sun terraces, summer kitchen and barbeque, large gardens, paddocks and an orchard of walnut trees set amongst the attractive countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

Having been in the business for so long there are not many situations that we have not come across before and prepared for meaning that you have a perfect holiday.

Perfect Gites

  • 5 of 5

Le Manoir is an outstanding small group of charming and pretty gites. The owners, Nick and Chania, are welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them, first rate customer service, how rare these days! The facilities are in good condition and along with the weather will help make your stay, relaxing and memorable. The properties were as described, are well appointed, spotlessly clean and well equipped.

Finally, just two things to add: we would recommend Le Manoir to our friends and we are returning this year.

A fantastic location, great for young children

  • 5 of 5

We had a really great time at Le Manoir de La Foye. The location is idyllic, plenty of space and very relaxing. We have to young children (7 & 5) and they really enjoyed the pool area and the games room and we were able to relax within this safe environment .The Gites are very private and have their own BBQ facilities. The communal kitchen area is a great idea along with the weekly BBQ...great to meet other guests.

The complex owners Nick & Chiana are great hosts, always on hand to give you advice about local attractions etc. I would highly recommended Le Manoir de La Foye especially if your travelling with with young children.

Getaway for people and families of all ages

  • 5 of 5

We had a Lovely Holiday at Le Manoir de la Foye. Nick and Chania were welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. The gite, situated in a pretty, "get away from it all" setting with spacious grounds was comfortable and charming, with everything needed for the duration. There was a well appointed kitchen but the weather was so good that we mostly cooked from the barbeque outside. There is a lovely little pool and various activities for all ages for those lazy days. There is also a salle de jour providing various indoor activities for rainy days or when it is too hot to venture out. The gites are positioned in such a way that you are able to be as self contained or as sociable as you wish without intrusion.. There are a number of good markets within easy reach and numerous fascinating sight seeing oportunities to keep you more than busy throughout whether for a long weekend or fortnight - a car is essential. .

Located in the second sunniest region of France, the hamlet of la Foye de Vinax is adjacent to vineyards, extensive fields of wheat and sunflowers as well as the magnificent Forest of Aulnay. The gite is situated in one of Europe's richest cultural areas, with a host of beautiful historic sites within easy reach. Just fifteen minutes by car you will find the immaculate town square of Aulnay. The charming town boasts a full range of boutiques and shops including an Intermarché store. The town has weekly markets, bars, hairdressers, chemists and a delightful kitchen shop that serves tea. Aulnay Church is a World Heritage Monument and is regarded as one of the top ten Romanesque churches in France.

The main towns in the region are: Angouleme, Chef Boutonne, Cognac, Dampierre, La Rochelle, Limoges, Poitiers (Futuroscope), Saintes and St. Jean d'Angély. The cottage has easy access from all directions, especially the A10 autoroute (J33 & J34).

Golf: The region of Poitou-Charente boasts more than twelve golf courses open throughout the year. Every type of course can be found, some coastal, others parkland. The region’s temperate climate and outstanding number of hours of sunshine make play possible all year round, although the best period is from March though to the end of October. The course at Cognac is particularly good.
