Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Babb - Duck Lake Loft

3 bedroom 3 full baths, with sauna and unobstructed lake and mt. views

Recently constructed home right on the shores of Duck Lake (known for their record size trout). With an unbelievable view across the lake at Chief Mt. and Glacier Park.

After years of traveling to Glacier Park to enjoy the scenery, fly fish for monster trout, hike to small mountain lakes and waterfalls, and enjoy one of the most beautiful areas in our nation, we were able to purchase property on the far east end of Duck Lake. Located just a few miles from Many Glacier, the entrance to Glacier Park and 'going to the sun road' ( a must drive while here). We started construction of our cabin with a loft in 2008 and just completed some finishing touches. Every Year we try to improve both the home and amenities offered and often these improvements are at suggestions of the guests.

After staying in hotels, motels and friends homes, or often not being able to find a place to stay we wanted to share this beautiful area with like minded travelers by opening up our home for vacation rentals.

We love this area, and have yet to explore all that it has to offer as there is so much history to learn and things to see and do for the outdoor enthusiast.

We have included photos of the house, Which will give you a good idea of what we offer, that will make it comfortable for the traveler.

This area is still wild and woolly, not unusual to see Grizzly Bears, Moose, Buffalo, Big Horn sheep, Mountain goats, fox, and many other wild species that reside in and around the park. We love the natural aspects of this area and remind travelers to leave a small footprint while visiting to keep it pristine.

Montana is open range country, You will brake for a heard of cattle or free ranging horses before You will for a stop light. We embrace the rural feel and slower life style offered with gravel roads and a pot-hole or two.

Our home is a compact 2 full floors with loft. The loft being the master bedroom with Cal. King size log bed, lodge pole armoir and closets for storage. Full bathroom, vaulted blue pine ceilings overlooking the living room and dining room.

Main floor has a full kitchen with electric stove, microwave, blender, refrigerator with Ice maker, tile and granite counter tops, raised bar that will allow guests to be a part of the kitchen without getting in the way of the chef. Kitchen opens to dining room that will seat 8, living room off to the side with couch and easy chair to read books relax and enjoy the river rock fireplace with wood burning stove. Or walk out the French doors to the Large wrap around covered deck and enjoy the view of the lake with a cup of coffee or cocktail.

Down the stairs to the daylight basement with a large cabinet area and small library with a variety of books if You forgot one. Stackable washer and dryer located in the 3rd full bath. Bedroom has 2 double(Queen) log style beds with a trundle that can be rolled out for another single bed. An additional futon acts as a couch downstairs and can be used as an additional bed for guests that do not want to double up in one of the other beds.

After a hike or long day of fishing enjoy a 2-3 person infrared sauna to warm up, detoxify and relax in. A large coffee table that acts as a great place to put together a puzzle and French doors that open out to the lake.

A few short steps and You are lakeside, We have rafts and float tubes along with life jackets for the little ones. The lake deepens gradually in front of the house so no worries about falling in or deep drop offs. Bring booties or wading sneakers as this area is ancient Glacier run off so river style rocks and gravel abound.

Recently installed a big fire pit where you can roast marsh mellows, cook the hot dogs or just sit around the fire and enjoy the view. Picnic table and fire sticks are provided. We supply some wood but is hard to know how much each guest may use.

If you are a fly fisherman bring Your pole and waders, there is good fishing straight off the beach, once You wade out to where you can see deeper water. More than a few fish, Browns and Rainbow, have been caught and released here. We'll keep one for dinner as these trout consume the natural fresh water scuds(shrimp) which turns their meat a bright orange or red just like a Salmon.

For 2016 we purchased a paddle/peddle boat that can seat 4 persons, and cn be used by everyone for some exercise and getting out on the lake.

We supply a water dispenser with both Hot and cold water for a quick quench or cup of tea.

You can sleep 8 -9 comfortably.

There is a out door gas barbeque available and many other stored things for use, snoop around a bit if in need of something as we probably have it there somewhere.

We hope You enjoy your stay and our home as a great base camp for adventure in Glacier Park!

About Joel and Cindy Sutherland

The owners Joel and Cindy are originally from the Olympic Peninsula, in Washington State. We are used to the mountains and beautiful outdoors of our home state, But we are awed by the majestic wildness and topography this area has to offer, We feel fortunate to be able to come and enjoy the area with its distinct 4 seasons and sometimes crazy weather that can accommodate the region. We've made great friends in the area and community and look forward to getting caught up with them each time we come.

We are blessed to be able to visit and enjoy the great Blackfeet Nation and Glacier National Park. We hope You will feel the same way.

Joel and Cindy Sutherland purchased this house in 2008

Why Joel and Cindy Sutherland chose Montana

Our Home is very close to the entrance to Many Glacier which offers some of the best hikes and wild life viewing in Glacier Park. The East side is a little bit more remote and not part of a large city, but offers the outdoor enthusiast a perfect retreat to get away and get outside in the beautiful area.

What makes this house unique

We offer a well stocked, comfortable home where You can spread out, go swimming or fishing right in front of the house all the while enjoying the amazing views of Glacier park as a back drop. We know that most travelers will be coming from great distances to spend some time in one of the most beautiful areas of our nation, We want our home to add to the beauty of the area and help to make lasting memories with family and friends. We try to offer a lot more than the typical vacation rental, and really enjoy meeting and greeting people from all over the world that have come to visit. We hope we will see You soon.

Excellent!

The four of us had a great time saying at Duck Lake. There are spectacular views of the mountains and the sky provides an ever changing show of light and clouds. The loft is very neat and clean with lots of space to spread out. One complaint (very minor for us) was that the VRBO listing indicates availability of washer and dryer; however, the machine has a note on it indicating it is for linens only. We would have packed differently had we known. Really not a huge deal but, folks should know when planning.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the Review, We are so glad You enjoyed Your stay at our home, We strive to be a safe, clean and relaxing place to stay while exploring all the great things to do and see in Glacier Park. We apologize for the misunderstanding with the Washer and Dryer, It is there for the use of all travelers and guests, We have asked, that when staying, guests try to conserve water by doing larger loads, (not just one thing at a time)We will review our notes to make sure that our policies reflect our intentions better. We take all of our guests reviews seriously and are constantly trying to improve Duck Lake Loft for all travelers. Thanks again and we hope to see You again when You visit Glacier Park. Lovely location & home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great 3 nights at this well-stocked home while visiting Glacier National Park. The owners (Joel & Cindy) were very responsive and helpful, and the local managers were as well. The home was very comfortable, and worked perfectly for our group (2 couples + 1 single). It's very peaceful, out in the country, surrounded by grazing cattle fields. (So fewer worries about bears than about cows!!)

It's 15-20 minutes from 2 entrances to Glacier, and easily accessible to both as well as a handful of restaurants and a small grocery store. We liked spending most of our time at Glacier on the east side. And the house having a can of bear spray to borrow was a nice bonus!

This isn't a fancy place, but a comfortable, warm home, with 3 bathrooms so suitable for a larger group. It's definitely rural (think: septic) and you'll be bouncing over some country roads to get there, but it's worth it. Thanks to Joel & Cindy for sharing it!

A great place to stay while vacationing at Glacier Nat'l Park

  • 5 of 5

I don't usually write reviews, but felt obligated as this place was great. It was well stocked with essentials. The location was perfect for us in relation to GNP. The view off the back deck was stunning. We slept 9 very comfortably and with three full baths it was easy to get ready for the day. I'd say the only draw back is the cow poop! Cows range free all around the property and I shoveled for about an hour to clear paths for our group to trek to the lake and to be able to sit and enjoy a campfire. It really wasn't that big of a deal, but felt I had to write something that was on the down side in case those reading think these reviews are scams. Two sisters restaurant is good, as is the Cattle Baron, both very close. Stayed 8-14-2016 to 8-19-2016.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the Review, it was great having You and Your family and we are glad You enjoyed Your stay and Glacier Park. We thought we had solved the cattle issue by installing a fence this last spring, I am guessing they must have come in from the lake side which we didn't fence. Our neighbors on both sides recently erected fences as well so we are hoping to keep the free ranging horses and cattle out. We don't mind them being around just not in the yard!!! We don't see them very often but when they roam through they can be a pain. Thanks for the info that we can follow up on. Safe travels and we hope to see You again soon! --Update 11/1/16: We recently fenced and gated the lake side of the property to keep all cattle and horses at bay. Thanks again for the sudgestion. Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is a little off the beaten path which is what we loved the most. The view of Chief Mountain and the rest of the park are breath taking to say the least. We had everything we needed plus more. All we needed to bring was groceries and if there was something we forgot we found it there. We came with a party of 9 and it was tough to gauge our water waste but when we reached our max the alarm would alarm and all we had to do was make a call and the problem was resolved. The WiFi works, it isn't the most reliable but we were grateful for a retreat from our phones. Overall, the cabin and surrounding area were amazing and couldn't have gotten better treatment from the owners, managers, and neighbors.

SERENE HIDEAWAY FOR TRAVELERS

  • 5 of 5

Spent three restful nights on Duck Lake with two other couples in this very well appointed home. Although we live in a relatively quiet area of our city, it has been years since we have been anywhere with such total peaceful silence. Only the sounds of birds and occasional cattle were heard from far across the lake. We were welcomed with a very nice bottle of wine. Arriving on one of the hottest days of the summer, I went to turn on the air conditioning and realized that it is not needed in this part of the country. A few minutes with the doors open cooled the house to a very comfortable temperature as evening fell. Pay attention to the detailed directions coming in for the first time, as it involves a couple of miles on gravel roads with landmarks. No problem after you have done it once. Cell phone reception in this area is very spotty. The home has satellite wifi which works albeit slowly. Hopefully people are coming here to slow down without the need look at a screen constantly. We found the home lacking nothing with a nice kitchen and dining area. The décor is classic hunting and fishing lodge with modern amenities. Walking along the lake was beautiful. We had it to ourselves.

Access to Glacier is very close, either to the Many Glacier entrance or to the Going to the Sun Road in St. Mary. Two Sisters restaurant near the cabin is outstanding, and there is a small general store at Babb and a larger grocery in St. Mary. All the homes on Duck Lake have closed septic systems that have to be periodically pumped out, so prudent use of water is recommended, but it was never a problem for three couples staying three nights. Thanks to our very responsive hosts for a great change of pace from our daily routine.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

The house is so inviting and has a gorgeous view of the mountains in Glacier and even to Canada. The location is convenient to so many places. I love this side of Glacier. We saw elk and bear across the lake and enjoyed walking every evening on the lake to see the birds. Our party of 10 consisted of people from 4 households, ages 6 to 60, and the house worked so well for all of us. We will be back!
