If you’re looking for great vacation spot, romantic getaway, or just a relaxing weekend the “HIDEAWAY CHALET” in Bear Paw is the place for you!

The “HIDEAWAY CHALET” is private….. Yet close to all the amenities that Bear Paw has to offer. Located in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina, Bear Paw Resort is the only private 24/7 gated community on Lake Hiwassee. Bear Paw has many amenities which make it a great vacation spot. The lake is surrounded by beautiful mountains with 163 miles of natural shoreline and the Nantahala National Forest. It is where the Blue Ridge Mountains meet the “Smokies”….also known as “GOD’S COUNTRY”

Whether it’s fishing, swimming, water sports or just cruising around the lake on a boat soaking up the beauty ….Lake Hiwassee is the place. Bring your own boat or rent one. Mountain View Marina is located inside the Bear Paw Community and is within walking distance. Hidden Cove Marina is located just outside of Bear Paw and less than 2 miles.

Bear Paw offers many activities that make it a great vacation spot. In addition to the lake activities, there is also an Olympic size swimming pool, basketball courts at the Pavilion/Club House, tennis courts, exercise room, children’s playground and a small catch and release fishing pond. All are within walking distance. No need to load up in the car….it’s all just a stone’s throw away.

This comfortable vacation chalet offers…. hardwood floors throughout the house as well as central heat and a/c. For your enjoyment there are books, games, movies, DVD player, satellite TV and Wi-Fi. The main level has an open kitchen, dining & living room that opens up to a spacious deck. The 2 bedrooms (queen beds in each) and 2 full baths are on the main level. The open loft (2 twin beds) opens up to the main level. Down stairs in the lower-level, there is a bedroom with full & twin size bunk beds, 1/2 bath, full size washer and dryer, 52 inch big screen T.V. with Ping-Pong table, pool table, and dart board. It also has a new enlarged open deck.

The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, dishes, pots, pans and utensils. Everything you need to prepare a delicious country breakfast, romantic dinner, or holiday feast.

There is an outdoor fire pit to warm you up on those chilly evenings or gather the kids for a marshmallow or wiener roast.

Breathe in the clean mountain air and watch the hummingbirds feed as you relax and enjoy your morning coffee out on the spacious deck. Gather the family for a challenging game of “Corn Hole”, or fire up the grill for some mouthwatering barbeque.

This was a great place. Everything you would need was there. It made us feel like we were at home. I would definitely recommend it. The only problem is that it is a steep drive, which made it hard on my in-laws, as well as the steps going inside. It is a drive to get into town but that was fine with me. We were unable to get cell phone service. There was a phone though in the home. None of this bothered us though. So again, I would definitely stay again! Thanks Debbie for letting us stay in your home!

Deceptive Advertising and description of this property

  • 1 of 5

When we arrived, we realized there were a lot of outside steps going into the main floor. We had asked specifically if there were a lot of steps and were told there were only a few. I have a sister that has severe back problems and found it very difficult to climb the steps. She was only able to leave the cabin once due to the steps. Upon our arrival, we found the furniture and rug covered in a massive amount of dog hair. My sisters spent a half a day cleaning up the sofa and rug to get the dog hair off of them. The cabin had not been dusted or thoroughly cleaned in months. Beside the above mentioned things, the cabin was infested with scorpions. Other than this the bedrooms and bedding were clean. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. For this we were thankful. We were very disappointed with the experience and left two days early.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, I am genuinely sorry that my home didn't meet your expectations. I strive to made sure that EVERY guest leaves happy! I do not try to deceive or hide any details in my description. I do remember you asking if there were stairs and I told you that there were a set of stairs leading up to the main level, but after that.....there would be no need to climb any stairs as there are 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, kitchen and living room on the main level. As for the home being clean, I have never had anyone complain about the cleanliness. I apologize for the dog hair and will address this with the person that does my cleaning. As for the scorpions....there are scorpions in that area of the country. However, we have not ever seen any live ones in the house as we do exterminate. I would like to rectify this situation and offer you a partial refund for your inconvenience. I would also like to invite you to look at ALL our previous reviews that have been nothing but POSITIVE!!! ***** Apologetically, Debbi

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hideaway Chalet at Lake Hiwassee. The kitchen was well-equipped, including items to grill, and it was very clean. It was also wonderful that we were able to bring our dogs. We enjoyed the pool but did not have time to check out the tennis courts, fitness center or the lake rentals. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone who likes to be a little secluded but close enough to activities to not have to drive a very long distance. Whitewater rafting at the Ocoee is only about 30 minutes away; Nantahala, Bryson City and Cherokee are a little farther but it's a beautiful drive. There are also several places to hike, horseback ride or ride mountain bikes in less than an hour's drive. Of course, with all the amenities right in the resort, you can choose not to leave at all!

We enjoyed our stay at the lake and the home had everything we needed. You can tell that the owners take pride in their home as it was clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the ping, pong table. Here's your challenge, count the number of bears in the cabin. We all made estimates when we entered, and the true number was higher than any of us expected. Hope to return.

Our family spent five days at this property and had a blast! The community has everything you'll need to have a great time; pool, tennis court, lake and the marina has boat rentals (book before your trip though to ensure availability) you can also canoe and paddle board, too. If you want to spend some quality family time together this home is perfect. There is more than enough space for everyone to stretch out and have private space, but there are plenty of games and a ping pong table in the basement or cook a fabulous meal in the kitchen, cook out on the balcony or take a walk through the beautiful community. You can't beat taking a picnic down to the lake; the view is fabulous!! There are two flat screen TVs (living room and basement) which we never turned on!

If you want to venture out and experience a waterfall, hiking, rafting or anything else you can imagine doing in the NC mountain region you are within an hour of it all. We took time to do as much as we could during the day and returning to this lovely home made each day perfect!

We will definitely return to this property!

My husband was born and raised in this area and even though we've spent what seems like 100 family vacations in NC everyone remarked about the fun and relaxing time they had on this trip!
