Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Sunburg - Little Norway R&R

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

After driving through beautiful central Minnesota farm country, visitors are taken by surprise when they reach the thick woods and meandering dirt road that lead to this secluded property on Norway Lake, two hours west of Minneapolis and 20 minutes north of Willmar. The house is situated on a smaller part of Norway Lake, affectionately known as Little Norway, and is accessible to Games Lake to the north and Norway Lake to the south. The house is 'off the grid' 3/4 of a mile down a hard packed dirt road on Little Norway Lake.

Little Norway R&R is 2000 square feet of light-filled space, uncluttered and open, with amenities for a comfortable getaway. The vaulted great room and adjoining sitting room overlook the lake. The master bedroom also faces the lake and has a queen bed and private bath with jetted tub and separate shower. The second and third bedrooms face the front yard and woods beyond, with a queen and two extra long twin beds respectively. There are a total of 2 1/2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, crock pot and basic spices and ingredients, and guests are welcome to use the outdoor gas grill. A washer and dryer and are on site. Other features are central air, a gas fireplace, satellite TV, internet, and cell coverage for Verizon and AT&T.

This home shares the west side of Little Norway with just three other properties. Summer guests enjoy a mowed yard with patio, fire pit with provided logs and kindling, screened porch, and private lake shore. An environmentally friendly shoreline buffer zone consisting of native plants was installed by Prairie Restorations, Inc. in 2013. Fish off the dock or use the two kayaks or the canoe to explore the chain of lakes. Paddle through the narrow channel into Games Lake then over to its excellent swimming beach. The more adventurous can continue into Swan Lake with a quick portage. Take a morning run or an evening walk through the woods out to the main road, a 3 mile loop.

There is much to do in the area including shopping, a winery, a craft brewery, live theater, music, golfing, birding, farmers’ markets, biking trails… and the list goes on. The owners can suggest activities based on guests’ interests. Stop by Three Sisters at the Intersection of County Road 9 and Highway 71 (5 miles away) for beautiful locally made furniture and home décor. For those whose tastes run more toward military surplus and live bait, or if you need a fishing license, Pete’s shares the parking lot right next door to Three Sisters. It also has a small convenience store to pick up that forgotten item or a newspaper. Neighboring Sibley State Park has miles of trails, a fishing pier, an interpretive center, and a swimming beach. The Glacial Lakes State trail runs nearby. Bring your bikes and explore all or part of the paved 22 mile route. New London (10 miles away) offers a bakery, ice cream shop, wonderful cafes, unique boutique stores, and for the engineer in the family, an intriguing dam over the Little Crow River. Most Friday nights in the summer, New London hosts a ski show on the Little Crow. Visit the city of Spicer for a houseboat cruise on Green Lake or a casual lunch on the beach at Zorbaz. For an unforgettable evening, make a reservation at Spicer Castle for their famous Murder Mystery Dinner.

For winter visitors, Little Norway R&R is a peaceful retreat. Relax near the two sided gas fireplace, or enjoy miles of nearby snowmobile trails and cross country skiing.

Immaculate, Comfy Property!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely escape, though only two hours from the cities. We were amazed at how many amenities the home had, especially for the little ones. I will also note that the home has a total of two steps, so no need for baby gates to avoid falling down the stairs. The beds are extremely comfortable. The house was certainly large enough to accommodate four adults and two kiddos. The owner is extremely warm and responsive. I honestly can't say enough good things about this home! It's an oasis. Yes, the water does have an odor, but it did not affect cooking whatsoever and we happily drank the bottled water provided (though the quality of the water is fine!).

Beautiful home in a stunning and peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

The house was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed to make our stay both enjoyable and memorable. The lounge and seating areas allowed us to spread out and and relax without feeling on top of each other, the kitchen was modern, clean and provided every utensil and appliance needed for a vacation home. Each bedroom was wonderfully comfortable making it such a joy to relax into bed each night.

We were so grateful to Rhonda for making extra provisions for our little one. Baby Erin was only 5 months old and on arrival we found a crib, rock-n-play and high chair all ready for her (and us!) to use. The care and thoughtfulness in providing a special baby towel and cloth is testimony to why Little Norway is truly a retreat home from home.

Already I have recommended Little Norway to a friend and hope to return again myself next year!

Many many thanks Little Norway!

A beautiful lake home with all the amenities

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a very relaxing week with our family at this beautiful lake home. It had all the amenities we could ask for. Quiet seclusion but close enough to a couple of towns if one wanted anything more. We definitely recommend this place. We thank the owners for sharing!!!

Wonderful Home

  • 5 of 5

This home has everything you need with a fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms. Views over lake were fantastic. You can tell the owners take great care of their home and that they want you to feel at home. The home was very clean! And the heat was programmed so that when we arrived we didn't have to wait for it to warm up. It snowed during our stay and snow removal was prompt and well done. Highly recommend a stay here and we will be back!

Relaxing Mini Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We needed a short get away from our business and this was perfect! We did not have to travel to have the "up-north" feeling with they way this home is tucked into the woods. We enjoyed this home late November so were not able to enjoy all the outdoor amenities they have available (thus only 4 stars) but enjoyed the games and puzzles. The home came with all the things one needed for a get away.
