|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
This 3 BDR home has 2 bedrooms with king beds, and one with 2 single beds and a queen size futon, sleeping up to 8. The home is very family friendly with many features that accommodate children and/or handicapped. There are no stairs, and the sidewalk goes right to the dock, making access easy for everyone, and for pulling carts. There is a large walk-in shower in one bath, and a private outside shower. The fully equipped laundry room is huge and has lots of storage. Cable TV & high speed internet service are provided. There are 5 televisions in the home.
The dock is perfect for outboard boats up to 30ft., jet skies, and kayaks. Lots of trout, redfish and crab have been caught off of the dock! Boats may be tied off and docked overnight with owners prior approval, and there is a boat launch 1/4 miles from our house. We have plenty of room for boat trailer storage and extra vehicles. From our dock, it's an easy boat ride to head offshore- or stay inshore for some of the best Tarpon, Mackerel , Redfish and Speckled Trout fishing found anywhere in Florida. If a storm blows up while you're on the water, it's a quick ride back to the safety of the dock. There is a large covered deck at the end of the dock with a fish cleaning station; or you may want to sit in the shade and fish, or just hang out and enjoy the view.
Our parents bought this home for it's beautiful view and easy access to the wonderful bay & gulf fishing and loved every minute they were in the home. Mom and Dad have passed the home down to the family. Now their 4 sons, grandkids and great grandkids have the same love for the home, and continue to build memories.
Robert Strickland purchased this house in 1991
Our home is perfect for family vacations. My parents wanted a home that we could all go to with our families- not only have a wonderful view, but have access to the gulf for our boating and water sport activities. Our father was a contractor and completely rebuilt the home when they bought it, and it has been totally remodeled again since then. There is an awesome porch (12X40) which faces the water and dock, where we idle away the hours when we are not on the water. We enjoy the laid-back and quite atmosphere that this part of Florida offers compared to the miles of condo's and tourist- packed places elsewhere. It is truly the Forgotten Coast, and we hope that our home will bring our guests the same joy it has given to us!
There are few places like ours, where one can sit on the screened back porch in the mornings with your first cup of hot coffee and watch pelicans sail by and mullet jumping at the water's edge just 100 feet way. Then, you pack a picnic lunch, head for the water, and come home in time to cook and entertain for dinner- watching the boats come in! And look, Mom, no stairs!
My cousin , fishing buddy and I met at the house for a week of reunion and fishing. The house was perfect for 3 guys Clean well appointed and perfect location. Dock was great for my 22 foot boat.
Enjoyed fishing, cooking and relaxing. Both brothers we dealt with were very helpful and shared their fishing secrets. Lots of good local seafood. We will be back again!
This house was better than pictured/described in the profile. It had everything we needed and left little for us to actually have to go out and get, besides food. Provided towels/linen/bedding was clean and the house was very clean when we got in. Owner was super friendly and his brother who is a local fishing captain, was just as friendly! Large screened porch made it a relaxing place to watch the waters at night with a breeze drifting in. Thanks again to the owners for allowing my family to reunite in a great location!
Excellent location for amateur radio earth-moon-earth contacts and vhf contests. Dock large enough for card table with power to set up antenna facing east to horizon for moonrise and EME bounce. 4BR were large and enough for dxexpedition. Large screened porch had vinyl sliding windows that allowed for good visibility of gulf while making contacts on radios in a/c. The screen porch was large enough for 6 radios to be set up for multi-band operation. Trees were available for wire antennas and grass areas allowed antennas to be set up with tripods and push up poles. Very clean and well kept house. Carrabelle restaurants 8 minutes away. Many thanks to the property owners for letting us stay in their home.
This home is the perfect place for a waterfront getaway with family and friends! We had young children, adult friends and my parents with us and this place accommodated us all. The house is immaculate - from the 4 bedrooms with large beds, comfortable family style living room, fully stocked kitchen with all the utensils you'll need, great size grassy backyard perfect for the kids to play and amazing back porch fully screened overlooking the water. The dock was perfect for our 23 foot center console boat. The boat ramp is less than 1/2 mile from the house which made putting it in the water a breeze. We tied off at the dock every evening- not having to take the boat in and out of the water made it so hassle free. On Saturday, we headed to Dog Island just across the bay from the house, where we anchored the boat and spent the day on the beach. In the evenings, we would fish the flats right out in front of the house. Right from the dock we were able to see blue crabs, star fish and other sea life. Gene, own of the owners who lives nearby and is a charter captain, gave us excellent advice on where to fish for grouper. Within 10 minutes of reaching the spot he recommended, we caught two keeper size grouper. We enjoyed everything about our stay and look forward to visits in the future! Thank you Robert, Gene and family!!
We took our family (including teens and a 10 year old) to Florida for Spring Break and were so happy with the decision to visit this area. The old-fashioned feel of the area and unspoiled beauty were a nice break from more touristy areas. The house was even better than we had expected, with every amenity we needed. Well- equipped kitchen. The porch and dock were so nice, and the fishing was great! The owners provided excellent customer service and were very hospitable. One of the owners, Gene, who lives nearby, was there when we needed anything. He went above and beyond to help us and to give us great information about the area, boating, and fishing! We loved seeing the spectacular fish he caught when he brought his boat back to the dock in the afternoons. He even shared some fish with us. The house was clean, comfortable, and updated. The decor was great, especially the fishing trip photos of the owners. We loved going to nearby Bird Island and Dog Island, Carabelle Beach, St. George Island, and Apalachicola. Just being at the house and on the dock was one of our best family vacation memories. We would definitely love to return to this place!
Very pleasant stay in the forgotten part of Florida. Nicely remodeled ranch with four highly adequate bedrooms. My bad back had the benefit of a comfortable bed and soft pillows. Could not have asked for more. The lanai faced the ocean and was surrounded by a unique screen face that could be opened in a flash letting you experience ocean breezes when desired. Spent a lot of time there. Kitchen had all the latest...granite counters, stainless appliances, etc. Walk in shower was improved upon while we were there with the addition of a second grab bar making it even more handicap friendly. The owners were friendly and prompt in addressing any issue and we even got some freshly caught ocean trout from one of the owners who owns/runs a day-boat guide service. You can also fish off the end of the dock. This was raw Florida at its best. Plenty of restaurents. See Angelos across the bridge from Alligator Point and, of course, the many choices available in Apalachicola the oyster capitol of the nation. If you come be sure to eat out at the Pit Stop just over the Carrabelle bridge. You will discover a literally unvarnished but wholesome, clean, down-home southern atmosphere with generous helpings of food. All in all a very fine stay.
A perfect retreat on Florida's Forgotten Coast with 180 degree views of bay and gulf waters just feet from the home. From the dock, you are just a short boat ride to some of the best inshore fishing for Trout, Redfish and Tarpon in Florida. 1/2 mile from the dock you can load the boat with scallops, in season. After a day on the water take a ride to the 200 year old town of Apalachicola for dinner at one of the many restaurants serving the finest, fresh seafood anywhere in Florida. The Owl Cafe is a favorite. Save time for a walk through the interesting and unusual antique stores around town. We also recommend taking time to visit Wakulla Springs, St. Marks Wildlife Preserve and St. George Island. There are miles of trails to walk and bike ride at all three places.
