Fantastic Property!

  • 5 of 5

Our family's first stay at Bewdley was nothing short of spectacular....it is a gem! The house is very well-equipped and steeped in history. Built by Major 'Jimmy of Bewdley' Ball in the early 1700s, the original house was not that far from cousin Mary Ball's (George Washington's mother) homestead on the Rappahannock R. GW undoubtedly visited Bewdley in his childhood and explored the many acres of landscaped lawn that surrounds the present house now. No documentation I could find but what a good story!

The pier on Deep Creek leading to the river is perfectly suited for tying up a boat, fishing, or crabbing. We caught lots of both!

Days were filled with lawn games, watching the 4 year old grandson run with abandon in the open fields, or just sitting comfortably on the bank above the river. There is a perfect screened porch overlooking the river where nearly all our meals were taken.

And then there is the wonderful caretaker, Nelson, who unobtrusively but sincerely, will take care of your every need regarding the property and address questions you may have.

Bewdley is as advertised in the listing and not overhyped. I hope it's our first of many visits there.

  • 5 of 5

It is an awesome place. Lots of memories for my husband , he spent time there while he was growing up with the Cosby cousins. Now with our kids and grandkids continuing the memories of such a great place. Quiet and away from the hussle and bussle of this world.

Would love to have a gas grill added to the ammenities available.

I have my 40th Birthday party here and it was perfect! This renter thinks of everything and the groundskeeper was excellent. We hope to come back year after year. Please look this property up on wikipedia...you will be glad you did!

Less than Pleased

  • 1 of 5

Having rented off of VRBO for the last 6 years, we unfortunately have to say this has been the worse rental, in terms of the home, we have ever experienced. For the sake of time and space, this will be a very scaled down version of our experience.

Of the week long stay, the caretaker was there on five different days which meant interruptions to our vacation each time.

Friday check in time the cleaning crew was there until 6pm even though the rental was supposed to start at 4pm. Saturday we discovered the dishwasher and garbage disposal were both broken. Saturday was also the day we discovered the bug infestation, mostly upstairs – flying and crawling bugs…in the beds, on the beds, walls, floor, ceiling, etc. Not one or two bugs, infestation. Sunday spent the day spraying the bedrooms with the bug spray found in the closet downstairs. Monday caretaker came to remove trash and we told him about all the issues. He could not fix the appliances so called repair man. Said he would bring us more bug spray. Monday evening, neighbor’s dog came for a visit and would not leave. Did not get along w/ our dogs which posed a problem to us as this was a free roaming dog. Monday evening we also spotted and killed cockroaches in the dining room. Tuesday morning the neighbor’s dog came back over and parked herself at the base of the steps. Could not let our dogs outside. Nelson came back over to take the dog home and put it inside since the neighbors continued to let the dog roam free all day while they went to work. He also brought us more bug spray and sealed the A/C units in the upstairs bedrooms. Wednesday morning Nelson returns and lets us know the repair man would be out that afternoon. Repair man comes, could not fix the garbage disposal, but we were told the dishwasher should work. Thursday we tried the dishwasher and it still wasn’t working.

We dealt with a bug infestation, no working dishwasher and no garbage disposal for the entire week we stayed in this house. In addition, we dealt with the neighbor’s free roaming dog that was not friendly to our dogs along with daily interruptions to our vacation for all the issues we experienced.

We were given a ‘compensation for our inconvenience’ that equaled less than one night’s stay. So a week of broken appliances, a serious bug infestation, a roaming dog and constant interruptions to our vacation equated to less than one nights compensation to the owner.

Our stay at Lancaster

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful week we had... 3 generations from Singapore to Ohio. We never left... Catching fish, watching Dolphins, playing horseshoes, kayaking, and biking. You had everything! Our 2 dogs were exhausted at night. Nelson was wonderful, feeding the birds and checking in every day to see if we needed anything. I'm sorry we can't be there to eat the vegetables that he planted for your guests. We will be back!

Wedding week at Bewdley

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at Bewdley preparing for our daughter's wedding at Belle Isle State Park. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay. Although we were very busy, the house and grounds provided us the comforts to relax. We would love to come back and stay when we could take advantage of all this property has to offer. A special thanks to Nelson who could not have been more attentive.
