Walk to the Santa Monica Pier and enjoy a carousel or Ferris Wheel ride, attend a summer twilight concert or simply spend time watching sailboats and sunsets from the lovely sun-room or front garden of The Cottage.
Owner, John K. Heidt, grew up in California with a deep appreciation of the ocean having surfed since the age of 10 and sailing since the age of 16. John is a UCLA Alum, Father, Grandfather and has been a professional in real estate for the last 38 years. He is President of the Heidt Torres Co. which manages and develops commercial properties in the greater Los Angeles area.
When Donna and John first discovered The Cottage they recognized the potential and beauty of the property immediately, despite the fact that at the time it was a wreck. John purchased the property on May 1, 2008 as a gift for his wife's 50th birthday. Extreme renovations to the tune of $1,500,000 began after extensive planning three years later and were completed in 2014.

The Cottage building permit was issued in 1898. Representative of massed-plan vernacular cottages with hipped roofs, this building type and style lined Ocean Avenue at the turn of the Century. Today, it is the only surviving single-family home of its type along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica and was designated as Historic Landmark #74 by the City of Santa Monica.

Wonderful stay at this beautifully appointed and situated cottage. We had a group of 7 and loved the layout and feel of this property. Everyone loved their stay. We are passing through Santa Monica on our way to skiing in CO. Just across the street from the walkway on the beach - we walked to Venice; the boys hired segways and went both ways; we walked to restaurants in Santa Monica Blvd; met friends and explored; gathered in the comfortable lounge and watched the Australian Open; played cards. A very special place.
The Cottage is impeccably maintained by the Heidt family who take well deserved pride in this gorgeous property. It is a well proportioned four bedroom with all the amenities. Walking distance to the pier and all the local attractions. We were looked after by Maddy who was attentive but unobtrusive. We will return!
We stayed for about a week at the Cottage and really enjoyed our stay. The owners and property managers were very accommodating and made sure our family needs were well met. The location put us steps away from the beach, pier, restaurants, etc...The house itself is very well furnished and decorated and has all the amenities to make us comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!
The Cottage is an amazingly decorated house located in the heart of vibrant Santa Monica. With a nautical, beach theme found throughout this spacious home, the ocean view validates the experience of being seaside! If you're interested in experiencing a tranquil beach getaway, but would like the option of enjoying an eclectic town like Venice, or stroll urban, metropolis streets equal to Third Street Promenade, then The Cottage is the perfect place to stay. Bottom-line, The Cottage is an incredibly located piece of real estate that exudes beach living, while offering unlimited amenities in one of the most diverse cities in our nation.
Our family spent the most delightful week in this fabulous, beautifully decorated and sweet, not so little cottage. The location is perfect, steps from the beach where are all the activities you could want, yet tucked away in a quiet setting. Every detail was thought out and provided for our convenience and comfort starting with the welcome wine and cheese to coffee service, restaurant recommendations, off street parking, cozy bathrobes and more. We loved this cottage and will definitely be back for another visit! Becky
