About the property

Ideal holiday base for families wishing to leave the car behind in the evening

This lovely villa is located in a residential area within a short walk to the centre of Begur and just a five minute drive from the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava coast. The location makes it an ideal place to stay for anybody wishing to walk into the restaurants and bars in the evening. The house is south facing and gets the sun on the pool and terraces all day long. We provide Free Wifi to our guests. The living accommodation is open plan and there is a spacious terrace off the sitting room which has a covered area providing a shady spot for when it is really hot. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a BBQ area big enough to satisfy any chefs desires conveniently located just outside the kitchen. The master bedroom has an en suite shower room and there is a family bathroom with a bath. The top terrace is child friendly with a safety gate to prevent the little ones from accessing the pool .Whilst we say the house accommodates six people the sixth bed is a pull out. We can provide a travel cot and high chair.

This house is well furnished with comfy seating both inside and out. There are sun loungers around the pool and seating areas on both levels. The garden is terraced but also has a large flat area to the side of the house.

The pool is 8 x 4 m with Roman steps into it. It is solar heated so generally 5C more than a non heated pool at any time.

There is a very well stocked supermarket within a couple of minutes walk. The centre of the village is a pleasant walk away with lots of restaurants and small interesting shops and boutiques.

Golf, cycling, riding and walking: For the golfer there are a number of local courses within a very short distance. At Pals and at Emporda one of the best courses in Spain. There is no shortage of choice in this region with courses to suit all levels from the most challenging to the more forgiving. It is up to you. Club hire is available in most places and it is relatively easy to organise tee times.

There is a very friendly English speaking golf society locally if you wish to take part in any of their competitions that is easily arranged.

This area has a large number of well mapped and signposted designated walking and cycling paths. We can arrange hire of mountain bikes for you by the day or by the week. Discover the hidden Catalonia off the beaten track through tiny medieval villages, vinyards and fields of wild lfowers, rice, wheat and sunflowers. Heaven on earth!

We can arrange riding for you or simply a quiet hack along one of the beaches, through the forest tracks or countryside.

Food and Wine:

This area is renowned for its great food and wine.

El Bulli was best Restaurant in the World for many years and during that time many young chefs worked in their kitchen. There are now a number of wonderful restaurants in Catalonia owned and run by these former students of Ardrian Ferran.

Apart from these 'top end' places (which if you ask David or Phil Fleming about they will be happy to fill you in) local Catalan food is excellent. Prices are exceptionally reasonable and a basic 10/15€ menu del dia can be a fantastic culinary experience.

The local markets have wonderful fresh fish, shellfish, vegetables and fruit if you wish to dine at home or take a picnic to the beach.

Wine here is also great with a wide variety of styles and prices. Cava tasting is a must!

Activities for children: The local autority in Begur and in fact most of Catalonia are very aware that a happy child on holiday is the key to happy parents.

Almost every evening throughout the summer there will be something for children to do in Begur between 7 and 9 pm. Of course that doesn't mean your children have to go home at that time. In fact most Spanish families are only thinking of coming out at that time. Restaurants are used to children dining with their parents at any time of the night and children are welcome everywhere.

At the park in Begur there are bouncy castles inflated from 6pm, there is usually some 'activities' in the church square and on some evenings dancing for all ages from 8 to 80! Good fun for all the family.

Please read the terms and condtions for rental in full on our website before you make a reservation. Thanks!

About Costa Brava Connections SCP

We bought this property as a holiday home and have been renting it ever since. Our aim is to retire to Begur as soon as we can.

Costa Brava Connections SCP purchased this villa in 2004

Why Costa Brava Connections SCP chose Begur

We loved the location. Begur is a fabulous village where we had been coming on holiday for years before being lucky enough to find this villa. Of course having David and Phil from Costa Brava Connections on hand to 'property find' for us was an enormous plus. It took out a lot of the leg work and the short list Phil came up with was excellent. She really listened to what we wanted and came up with just four properties out of what seemed like lots. Our final decision was not easy, as we wanted a house with a pool and this had 'room for a pool'. however, we are delighted that we chose this villa and have absolutely no regrets. We have done lots of work since we bought the villa the first stage was to build the pool and terraces. We try to add something new or upgrade the house every year. It is a house that we felt absolutely comfortable in from the minute we saw it. We wanted a villa that was accessible for everything and we could walk from to the restaurants and shops etc., without it being too close to the centre. We wanted something easy to maintain from a distance and it had to pay towards the expenses. This was it. We love it and hope you like it as much as we do!

What makes this villa unique

The biggest benefit to this villa is its location. Begur is a gem of a place and the local countryside, beaches and villages are completely awe inspiringly beautiful.

We find being able to walk into the village in the evening particularly enjoyable. It doesn't take long and is a pleasant walk along a track to the side of the road with a safety barrier alongside.

There is Free Wifi at Villa La Perla

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our third visit to La Perla in two years. We love the house, where it is and the great service we always get from David who is a mine of information and so helpful.

We always loved this house but think the new décor and colour scheme is just fabulous. The kids love the pool and swam every day it was hard to get them out of it. We have already booked to come back in the autumn and can't wait.

Great Family Villa

  • 5 of 5

My wife, toddler and I had a tremendous fortnight in this child friendly villa near Begur at the start of Sept 2009. The stay was enhanced by the local knowledge of agents - Dave and Phil Fleming - who couldn't do enough to help - ranging from cycle routes to restaurants to couriering to the UK baby clothes we had left in the villa! Luckily timing the trip to coincide with the village Cuban festival was the icing on the cake and we didn't want to leave!!

Owner's Response: We are really glad you enjoyed your holiday. Thanks for taking the time to post a review. The Feria de los Indios (Cuban festival) here at the begining of September is great fun. Glad you enjoyed it so much. The local community here and the town hall are both very active and during year there are a number of 'festivals' all great excuses for plenty of eating and the odd glass (or two) of cava. The Cuban connection is great and the Salsa band they have are usually brought in from Havana so are really authentic. This weekend was the local Begur, 'Santa Reparada' celebration so there was entertainment for the children, followed by traditional 'Sardanas' and then a 'Swing' band to dance the night away to. The villa is close enough to stroll in, enjoy the fun and yet not hear the noise if you need to get an early night.

Wonderful stay, best agents

  • 5 of 5

David and Phil were such nice, patient and caring agents. Everything was perfect! "THE PEARL" could not be a better name for the house which was immaculate when we got in.

Our family had a great stay there, we felt like home. The location is great for its privacy and supermarkets and shops are all nearby. We have also been to the best beaches and didn't have to drive too long.

We will sure come back. Thanks for everything!

Fantastic holiday villa

  • 4 of 5

Had a great two weeks in this lovely villa just outside Begur. The pool was great and the villa very comfortable - only draw back was lack of air conditioning which made it a bit uncomfortable at night.

All involved with the villa were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Location was about ten minutes walk from the centre of Begur which was ideal for an evening stroll and the local beaches were within easy reach and all different in character.

Slight drawback - which, in addition to the air conditioning point is why it doesn't get five stars - was that it is about 100 metres from a fairly busy road which can be quite noisy. Nothing major but not as tranquil as it looks in the pictures!

All in all I would recommend anyone to stay here and have a great holiday!

Great base for holiday

  • 5 of 5

We spent our family holiday with three generations here and found the location fantastic, it was near the road to Begur which was the only negative but within a day we hardly noticed it. The villa was well equipped with everything we needed. The general condition of the fixtures and fitting was excellent and obviously this is a well loved second home rather than a money making enterprise. The pool area is wonderful. There is also a fence around the terrace area with gate that makes it worry free for those of us with small children. The pool was large and there is lots of space for everyone. We found the beds comfortable, the house well maintained and clean. Overall it exceeded our expectations. We would recommend this house to anyone who is considering the area and want to walk to the shops, bars, restaurants etc but don't want to be in the middle of the town. The management company made life easy, were friendly and helpful. All in all a great holiday experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for a great review. We are so glad you all enjoyed your holiday. We have tried to make this a 'home from home' and are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The trees to the front of the house have been felled to provide a fire break making the house a little more exposed than we would like but have found the house brighter and sunnier still. Thank you for your provisional reservation for 2016 we look forward to seeing you again next summer.

Little Gem

  • 5 of 5

My Husband and I stayed with our 2 little ones the last week in May 2015. The house had just had a makeover and looked fabulous! It was spotless and had everything you could want to make you feel like you were home. The location is an easy walk into the village of Begur (10 Mins) and close to the beach. The agents we dealt with were so helpful and nice, we met David when he came to clean the pool and he gave us loads of helpful hints on where to eat and where to take the kids , there is a waterpark 20 mins away. But the kids were happy enough to stay in the pool , to be honest getting them out was the issue.

Begur village is a lovely mix of historic buildings, alfresco restaurants, markets, beaches and Mediterranean atmosphere. I found it to be a gem hidden along the Spanish coast and La Perla to be the home therein.

a shame

  • 1 of 5

The overall impression: so dirty!

The house was dirty, tableware was dirty.

I had to wash the house the day of our arrival, because the house was unoccupied since October! and without hot water, because the owner had forgotten to plug in! We were able to wash ourselves the next day.

The bed mattress was so old it creaks!

The doors close only if slam violently!

The pool heating is broken for years. As soon as we arrived, the owner lied to us, saying it was too hot to use the heating. we had only 24 ° C outside temperature! too hot ??

The pool was not maintained during our stay. We had to buy the equipment to clean!

Do not go there

Owner's Response: As agents for the owners of the house this is the first time in over 10 years that we have managed the property that there has been a negative review. Most of our guests are repeat clients or people who have been recommended by friends who have been to La Perla, love it and want to come back. I think something must have been lost in translation. We pride ourselves on our customer service and we have never had a problem with our clients that has not been addressed immediately. We try to make all our guests as comfortable as possible. If you don’t tell us there is a problem we do not and cannot know. You did not make any of your issues known to us and are really surprised at your review. The house had been completely repainted both inside and outside prior to arrival. We are aware that this can be dusty and had requested the cleaning staff to give the house more time than normal in order to make sure that it was clean. The dishes and saucepans etc., had been put through the dishwasher that morning and all the cupboards, windows cleaned. All our houses are inspected before the next guests arrive. I am very surprised that you found the house dirty and disappointed that you did not inform us so that we could have sent the ladies back to do whatever you thought necessary. The hot water was an oversight. However, as you know as soon as we were made aware of the problem on Saturday evening it was addressed and it takes only 2 hours to heat the tank. This is a new mattress bought at Easter and used for just two weeks. We have tightened the screws on the frame which may have accounted for some squeaking. A The doors are new PVC doors and you have to lift the handle to close them. The pool is cleaned every Saturday morning on contract The chemical levels are checked and the temperature taken in order that there is no risk of ear infections etc., We are aware that there were lots of pine needles as it was a very windy week. Pine needles do fall into the pool, this is normal and there is nothing we can do about it. Most people do not have a problem in taking them out and some people don’t bother. They do not mean the pool is dirty. The pool heating is working efficiently and has been since it was turned on at Easter. It was rented all winter and everything was working perfectly. We think this review is unfair and had you given us the to address any issues you had then they would have been dealt with immediately. We apologise for anything 'lost in translation'

Begur is the jewel in the crown of what has to be the most beautiful part of Catalonia and we think all of Spain. It is a small village with historical links to Cuba and therefore the architecture is reminiscent of old Havana. The centre of the village is pedestrianised with numerous small chic shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars. During the summer there is a wide range of entertainment suitable for all the family in the church square. Typical Catalan sardana dancing, artisan markets, fun disco nights and puppet theatre are a few worth visiting.

Of course the local beaches of Aigua Blava, Tamariu, Aigua Gelida and Sa Riera are the reason most people come to the area all of which are within a very short drive from the villa. Each beach has its own charm and facilities with lots of scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing or simply just chilling out. There is so much to see and do it is impossible to tell you all in this short space. Why not give us a ring and we will fill you in!

Other Activities: Fantastic restaurants, good wine, lots of medieval and historical sites
