Almost Heaven has windows through-out so that you may enjoy the outdoors while indoors. There is a beautiful view of the valley from the deck and kitchen windows. The white cabinets and natural red oak floors invite you to kick off your shoes and relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, cook top, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator with ice maker. The well water is super refreshing. The master bedroom has a queen bed, tall chest of drawers and chair. The sun room/2nd bedroom which we like to call the bird's nest, because it has windows on all 3 sides has a single bed and over sized chair - a perfect place to read/journal. There are double doors which connect the sun room to the living room which can be opened to make it part of the living space which has a sofa and 2 side chairs, coffee table, fireplace, bookshelves, games, puzzles, and CD player. High ceiling fans circulate the air. The bath has an over sized tub/shower. The wrap around deck has a round table with 2 chairs, 4 directors chairs and 4 Adirondack chairs.
The lower level is set up as an efficiency apartment with a sofa, easy chair, 2 twin beds and a double bed, bath and kitchen. The kitchen has a stove and refrigerator, but is not fully equipped. TV receives local channels. If you wish to watch a movie, please feel free to choose from our DVD library. The washer and dryer are located on the lower level. Double doors lead out onto the lower deck where you will find charcoal grill which is to be used in the open space to the west of the house.
House has a well and septic system.
We live in a metropolican area and retreat to our country home to escaped the the hassle and bustle of city life. As we crest the mountain ridges on the way, our worries and cares seem to disappear and a deep sense of relaxation floods over us. As a former military family we kid each other by saying, we keep the Civil War alive. One of us grew up on a northern farm and the other in a southern city. It just goes to show, opposites do attract. We have two grown sons, dubbed - the sons of thunder. We have traveled much and still seek to discover and try something knew, which we continue to find in WV.
Hudson and Jane Webb purchased this house in 2011
One day while looking at property in WV we came across an estate auction sign at a gas station. After meeting with the autioneer, walking the property line and looking over the various out buildings, we fell in love with the possibilities this property held. A few weeks later we stood on the steps of the county court house and bid on the property. To our delight, we won. A year later we broke ground to build the house and this past year refurbished the largest shed. Some day we hope to retire in WV. Until then, we invite you to enjoy our home.
We are delight that you had a great time at our place in WV. It is a wonderful place to unwind and relax. I love to sit on the deck and watch the hawks soar and the clouds float by. I would like to let you know that we now have WIFI for internet browsing and checking emails - installed yesterday. There is a AT&T Go-phone at the house which is available for use by guests. We are sorry you missed it. Service can be spotting depending on where you are in the house. Some folks have said their Verizon phones have worked at the house as well. Thank you for your business and we do hope you will return soon.
Lovely, very clean, well-stocked home. Jane and Hudson are gracious hosts and very accessible. We had a great time with our family! Thank you!
Wonderful property all by itself, 100% privacy. Everything updated and works great.
Only one queen bed, so not great for couples.
There is NO WIFI AND NO CELL SERVICE, so get the lady of the land before you get there.
LONG dirt road unmarked made it difficult to find, but once we got there we didn't want to leave!!
Awesome place and had a great time!!
Wonderful place to recharge. Quiet and peaceful location. Home is nicely appointed and owners very easy to work with. Highly recommend!
Pictures and words don't do this home justice, but I will try. The home itself is newer, and has all of the amenities for a comfortable stay, including lounge chairs for the deck, BBQs, and cooking spices. It was immaculately clean, the beds and bedding were of high quality and comfortable, and the extra long soaking tub was an unexpected delight. I stayed by myself, but the house would be great for a multi-family vacation. It is has a ground floor with its own small kitchen, three beds, bathroom, and laundry room. Upstairs has the master bedroom, bathroom, large kitchen, livingroom, and sitting room that has a twin bed and doors, that could be used as a bedroom. The house has very large windows everywhere that let in the light and breathtaking views. I especially enjoyed the sitting room with the 3 walls of windows. I set up a table in there to sew and enjoyed looking at the fall colors and woodpeckers in the trees outside the windows. There is a large deck that wraps around the house. I enjoyed sitting outside on it and playing my fiddle - the house is remote, so I could play without worrying about bothering neighbors. A word about the remoteness....it might not be for everybody, but this place is a long way off the beaten path, without good cell reception, or wifi.....for me, it provided healing for my spirit. There was a peaceful calmness that permeated the whole place! My service dog went with me and enjoyed laying on the deck in the sun and walking down the dirt road to see the cows and horses in the neighboring pasture.
The owner called me the night before my arrival to ensure I had the code to the lock and took the time to make sure I had good directions and services in the area - he was a lovely person!
I can't wait to come back....hopefully this review won't entice too many people to rent and keep me from finding an available weekend :)
The Webbs have an amazing place to get away for a weekend or longer and enjoy the fresh mountain air. We were a group of 6 friends and there was more than enough room for everybody--pull out couches allow everybody to have their own bed if you're not coming with couples. There was plenty of room and lots of amenities/extras that we were pleasantly surprised by. Two charcoal grills made it easy to cook for a crowd. Bring your friends and family and have a great time!
Note: we had a lot more reception with Sprint (full 3G) than AT&T or any other carrier (basically nothing) for those of you who still need to connect to home/work.
We had an excellent stay at Almost Heaven. The house is clean, well-stocked, and unique. It is quite remote which is exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed hiking down the drive to check out the stream and neighboring horses. The kitchen was very well-equipped - good selection of pots/pans, flatware, etc. The owner provides paper products, cleaning products and everyday items (spices, oils, etc). We had one rainy, rainy day, but the kids really enjoyed playing wii and watching movies. The owner was very quick to respond to any questions, and left really detailed notes on opening/closing the house, plus things to do locally. We highly recommend the house!

Looking for a vacation where you can enjoy nature, unplug and relax? You have found the right place. Our house, which we have dubbed, Almost Heaven is nestled at the foot of a mountain in the wilds of West Virginia surrounded by rolling hills. The property has 4 acres with various out buildings and is situated between 2 small spring-fed streams. New construction accented with antiques makes you feel right at home. The upstairs kitchen is fully equipped and the outdoor charcoal grill is ready for you to make/grill your favorite dishes. The deck is the perfect place to eat, read, sunbathe, watch hawks soar and/or count the stars. In the evening sit by the outdoor fire pit and roast marsh mellows. (The indoor fireplace is in the process of being converted to gas.) The house sleeps 6 with a queen bed in the master bedroom, a single bed in the sun room which is surrounded by windows on 3 sides, and 2 twin beds and a double bed are on the lower level which is set up as an efficiency apartment. There is a full bath and kitchen on both levels. For exercise and to stretch your legs, amble down the drive and/or bring your bikes to walk/bike along the country road. The TV on the lower level receives local channels. Phone and internet access is limited to AT&T. If you must have phone access, we suggest an AT&T Go-Phone.
