We have thoroughly enjoyed our cabin on Upper Hay Lake. So much so that we built a home next door and live here permanently now!
Teri Robb purchased this cabin in 2002
Our kids have grown up spending summers on Upper Hay Lake or at a near by golf course. They are now in college and still love visiting!
The lake views from the deck are spectacular and enjoying our morning coffee or an afternoon Margarita from there is one of our favorite memories.
We were very pleased with this rental. It was spotless! Very comfortable beds and furniture. Location was perfect for visiting Pequot Lakes & Nisswa whether for shopping or eating. The kitchen was pretty well equipped -small but functional. An earlier review mentioned a popping noise from the water heater-we also heard that but with bedroom doors closed we didn't. The twin beds are short-I'm 6'2" and would not have fit comfortably. It's also important to note that there are a number of steps to the dock/beach.
We would definitely rent here again!!
We just returned from renting the cozy cabin for the second year in a row. Once again, we had a wonderful time enjoying the cabin, the beach, the deck and the surrounding area. Weather was hot but that made floating, swimming and kayaking that much more fun.
The location of this cabin is perfect for us. Close to the bike trail, lots of great shopping and restaurants, yet feels like you are up north and fairly secluded.
The cabin is well stocked with towels, bedding and kitchen ware. The deck is a wonderful spot to grill and dine out, with the fire pit nearby for evening conversation and smores.
Just like last year, our hosts were friendly and available if there was anything we needed.
Thanks so much for another fabulous vacation!
We were 3 generations meeting for a get away and we are so happy that we found this cabin. Teri was very helpful in letting us know about the bedrooms. There were 2 bedrooms, 1 had a queen bed and the other had 2 twin beds and there was a pull out couch that could sleep 2. The cabin is located on a quiet little lake where we saw and heard loons and had a bald eagle who perched in a tree no far from our deck. It was so beautiful to witness this. There were a few boats on the lake, but not a lot and that added to the peacefulness. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with basic necessities. There is central air that we only used on 1 very hot day. Otherwise, the cabin was very comfortable with window open. We had a fire ring outside of our cabin and also had a gas grill and a charcoal grill which we could use. There are steps down to the lake, but they are well kept and lighted for evening or darkness. There is a good dock where we could fish and the grand-daughter did catch a nice blue-gill. she also spend time swimming in the lake. We went there with the desire to bike the trails and we did bike part of the Paul Bunyon Trail and also the Heartland trail. Great trails that are paved and wide. Lots of great scenery and lakes everywhere you look. We did mini golf at the Pirate's Cove which is just north of Brainerd. That is a fantastic mini-golf place. Then there is the town of Niswa where you can get great pizza at Rafferty's and just across the street from there is the Chocholate Ox - great ice cream and candy. Hint, the kids cone is plenty big for even the adults. One other place we found was in Brainerd. A diner called the Barn. What a unique place where the owners run the place and know most every one who comes in the place. The food is home cooked and very good. Check out their web site. All in all, I and my family would definitely recommend this rental and working with Teri. She is so friendly and happy and willing to help out in any way.
The cabin was clean and comfortable, the owner friendly and helpful.
A group of 4 of us stayed here last weekend and had a great time. The cabin is spacious enough for 4 adults with room to spread out and enjoy themselves. The location is far enough away from any activity so you feel like you are secluded but breakfast, gas and food are all less than a 5 minute drive.
The hosts are very friendly, easy communicators and have two awesome golden labs. One critique preventing this from being 5+ stars is that the two twin beds in the guest room are small--but I'm 6'2", so if you're shorter than me you shouldn't have a problem.
Despite the cold, rainy weather we enjoyed our stay at this cute cabin. However, we didn't sleep very well due to a couple of things. First, the water heater is in a closet in the bathroom which is close to both bedrooms. It was very loud and would "pop" for several minutes every hour. We didn't notice it during the day but at night it kept us awake. We ended up having the furnace fan on non stop and that helped to drown out the sound. Second, the windows in the bedrooms are unlike any I've ever seen before where they open at the top and bottom. After two nights of being very cold and feeling breezes, we figured out that the windows were open on the top. Our last night we finally slept well. The bathroom was not very clean either...especially the shower/tub. Other than those things, it was a great, cozy place to stay at.
Located in Brainerd Lakes area with many restaurants, golf courses, and shopping areas. Public landing on lake to bring your own fishing boat, recreational boat, or jet ski. Good fishing lake for both summer and ice fishing. Located close to Paul Bunyan trail for biking, roller blading, hiking, and running. Bike rental located close by. Groomed snow mobile trails located very near by with rentals available in Pequot Lakes.
