We explored Boston. Ventured into Maine and Cape Cod, and visited Harvard Univ.. It was wonderful being able to spend time together in this wonderful house with the family. A very clean, nice and quiet house for us to have a home away from home. Thanks for letting us stay here. We wnjoyed exploring Boston and then surrounding area.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Newton house. My mother-in-law fell in love with the turn of the century architecture and period antiques. She would just stand and admire the spiral staircase and imagine how things were in Boston during 'its time'. The massive amounts of wood throughout the house were amazing. We enjoyed cuddling up to the gas fireplace at the end of the day.
We used the kitchen to cook frequently during our four day stay and found everything handy and accessible. Thanks for meeting with us upon our arrival. We so enjoyed our time.
Comfortable, and creatively appointed with past traditions but meeting the desires of the twenty first century! Lovely Home!
Our family is new to VRBO and, based on this first experience, we will be using the service again. We rented both apartments and couldn't have been happier with the location, house layout, furnishings, contact with the owners, and convenience to both Newton and all other Boston destinations. This rental is perfect for families with children as there is great flexibility with sleeping options, rooms to "close off" for little ones, etc. The kitchens are awesome--fully equipped and spacious. Everything was spotless when we arrived. Coming from a Victorian house in Pittsburgh, we felt right at home with the large rooms, amazing entry way, stained glass windows, and the owners' tasteful decorations. We would certainly stay here again if the occasion arises.
Boston is a very difficult town to get around in, glad we decided to stay in Newton....as a must you need a gps or some kind of navigation system...and a good pair walking shoes as parking is almost impossible....the duplex was comfortable and near I-90...If you do not rent a car I recommend staying in Boston as it would be much less stressful...
We rented this house (it is actually a house divided into two rental spaces) as a place to plant ourselves while dropping our son off at college. It is conveniently located right off of a turnpike (I-90) that leads directly to and from the airport, downtown and other helpful locations. Driving to most of these places took 20 minutes or less. Access to the house was through the front door (surrounded by a delightful wrap-around porch and beautiful landscaping), and most of the living space is on the second floor. The two bedrooms (with an optional 3rd sleeping area), living room, dining area and kitchen were well-appointed, clean and very comfortable. All of the conveniences (washer/dryer, utensils, etc.) are included. The kitchen looks newly renovated, and although we did not cook meals during our stay (too many good restaurants!!), there is ample room and amenities to do so. The home was light and airy, and I looked forward to coming "home" to it each day.
The hosts/homeowners are lovely people and very helpful and accommodating. They were there to meet us in person, show us the home (and how to operate things), and they contacted us throughout the week to see if we needed anything. There is a Starbucks, Whole Foods, dry cleaner, drug store, restaurants and everything you could possibly need within walking distance or a very short drive. Newton Center, Chestnut Hill Shops, and boutiques and restaurants all along Washington Avenue were great. We rented a car and were able to park it in the driveway (major benefit), but there is also a bus stop right around the corner and a nearby train station. Downtown Boston is very easy to get to from this house.
Regarding Newton -- It is a lovely community, and we felt very safe in walking around the neighborhood and going to bed at night. Prospective renters might be interested to know that there is a fair amount of traffic noise on that corner (mostly on weekday mornings because of the highway access), but we had fans going and did not hear the noise in the house. Incidentally, the homeowners have provided plenty of fans and air conditioner units to make the temperature in the house extremely comfortable.
This was one of the best VRBO experiences we have ever had. We plan to stay at this home (whenever it is available) every time we visit Boston. I highly recommend this house if you are visiting Boston or the Boston area in ANY capacity. WONDERFUL, COMFORTABLE HOME!
This house was Fantastic for our family. I grew up in a similar house in Newton and it was very nostalgic. It has a very old school, warm feel. I would recommend this property and will stay here again when I visit.
