This house is a WOW. A short walk from the ocean with very uncrowded ocean beach. Community surrounded on either side by National Seashore property. Ten minute walk from the town of Ocean Beach where one can access restaurants, grocery stores, and night life. Spacious design with hardwood floors, granite/marble counter tops, lofted ceilings, central air conditioning, large bedrooms, and outdoor shower. Modern kitchen with new appliances. A simply beautiful home in an amazing setting. You have to see to appreciate quality and location. Perfect for families.
My wife and I met on the neighboring Atlantique Beach where she was a life guard in the 70's and 80's. We are still friends with many of the guards and Fire Islanders. We love the area and have owned in Robbins Rest since the 70's. Our beach house has been completely rebuilt and is now our dream vacation/soon to be retirement home.
Jon Nordgaard purchased this house in 2011
Robbins Rest is unique. It has it's own beach that even on the busiest summer weekend is never crowded. It is rare for anyone to sell a home here and most of our neighbors we have known for decades. The house has unique quiet of Robbins Rest but we are a short walk from the largest town on Fire Island, Ocean Beach. Ocean Beach has shopping, amenities as well as night life.
We are surrounded on both sides by Fire Island National Seashore Property. There is no further growth allowed and this has kept the area uncrowded and comfortable. The National Seashore has destinations such as Sunken Forest. This is a unique location with holly tree covered dunes and beautiful elevated hiking trails.
There is a mooring with the property so that if you own a boat you can keep it near the house.
The house was constructed in 2011 by a contractor friend of ours who made it a labor of love. It is truly beautiful. He continues to proudly show the place to prospective clients. The deck overlooks the Great South Bay and serves up gorgeous sunsets. A delicious sea-breeze usually cools the house beautifully but if it gets too hot the central air conditioner takes over. Congregating on the large mahogany deck, enjoy meals seated on the teak furniture will make lasting memories for all.
We rented this home for an annual Fire Island week with my brother's family. It was no less than perfect. It's extremely well equipped and immaculate. Being in Robbin's Rest was a pleasant surprise, a quiet small community with sand roads on either side. I highly recommend transportation from Ocean Beach, if you have anything more than a backpack! We love to cook, and so were delighted with the large and well appointed kitchen. Eating on the deck with the bay view was a highlight for us. Jon, the owner, was helpful and great to work with. We can't write to return next year.
I've been trying to think of how to describe this amazing rental without encouraging too many others to rent it. ;) Selfishly, I would love to rent it every year until the end of time. It is a lovely, comfortable and beautiful home with gorgeous views of the Great South Bay from the deck and many windows. There is always a breeze that keeps the house cool. The ocean is two-minutes away and the beach never had more than 10 people on it! You can enjoy sunsets on the deck, or wander into Ocean Beach to try out one of many nice restaurants. And lots of ice cream! Groceries can be delivered, which I highly recommend - don't try to carry a lot, unless you have someone carting it...it's vacation! It is a perfect spot to gather with friends or family - the house is more than you could ask for...a little piece of heaven. I will definitely return.
My family of 5 spent a week at this house earlier in the summer. Very well built home with a great layout. House is brand new and very well kept. Everyone had their own bedroom and 2 full bathrooms with an outdoor shower ... which was awsome ! Great views of the bay and a very short walk to the beach... which was never crowded. A very private location, but only a 10 minute walk to Ocean Beach. What impressed me the most was the owner's attention to detail ... he even had someone meet us at the ferry and walk us over the house. If you are looking for a new home with all the amenities, in a private location, with a water view and access to the best restaurants Fire Island has to offer - this place is for you.
My wife and 2 young daughters just spent a wonderful 10 days at this stunning house in Robbins Rest. Access to the ocean is a very short walk and most days it felt like a private beach. The house itself has a great open layout with plenty of space for our 19 month and 3 year old to run around and enjoy. All the amenities at the house are top notch and the elevation means the house gets both bay and ocean breezes...we never had to use the a/c while we were there in mid August. The walk to Ocean Beach is fairly close, although the sandy bit can be a bit of a struggle with small kids or a lot of luggage. Overall we loved the house and had a great experience and will be looking forward to staying here again in future summers.
Nestled in the serene hamlet of Robbins Rest, this impeccably built and well-designed house is spacious, comfortable, with all the amenities, top to bottom, and to boot, the wrap around deck boasts an incredible view of the Great South Bay, with stunning evening sunsets daily. And while the bay is in constant view, the Atlantic Ocean is also close enough to hear the waves rhythmically crashing on the shore, a mere 5 minute walk away. The house is elevated and perfectly situated to receive ocean and bay breezes regularly, but if it gets too hot, there is central air conditioning! And finally, the owners couldn't have been more gracious, accommodating and responsible.
I've rented on Fire Island since 1983 - Ocean Beach, Seaview, Ocean Bay Park, Kismet, Corneille, and even Robbins Rest, but this house, in this place, tops my list of best vacation experiences.
Fire Island is a very special place and this house made our vacation even more special. Steps from the bay and about two hundred yards to the ocean make this a perfect location. This ocean beach is beautiful, with white sand, clean water great waves, and almost no one else there but us. The house is immaculate with large rooms, nice furnishings, beautiful floors, spacious kitchen and an enormous deck with beautiful sunset views. Ocean Beach is a great little town with good restaurants and nice shops. Just be prepared for the walk from the Ocean Beach ferry dock to the house; the walk is only 10-15 minutes, but the last third is on sand. This makes carrying luggage and groceries challenging. If you have a lot to bring with you, ask the owner to arrange for someone to help you. We had a large group so we bought our groceries at the Bayshore Stop & Shop; they shipped everything over the next day. Even with the shipping fee, this was a big savings compared to buying groceries at the stores in Ocean Beach. Overall, you'll love this place.
