Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Eagle Rock - Seay's Escape on Craig Creek

Studio cabin with swinging bed on screen porch! Mountain Views on the Creek!

This 900 square feet, two story cabin (our garage turned into a cabin until we build our retirement home here) was completed in 2013. Conveniently, located 2 miles off Route 220 sitting on 2.2 acres. 111 feet private access of Craig Creek is in your back yard and Jefferson Nation Forest is in your front yard. Quiet, beautiful lot with Roaring Run and James River very close. Bring your Kayaks/Canoes or Tubes and float from the back yard to the James River. The Cabin is a studio style with semi private bedroom queen size bed, infrared heater and the living room has a vent-free propane fireplace, also two full size futons that have thick mattresses, full kitchen, living area has a bar, laundry room with propane heater, bathroom with large rain shower, large patio, Screened in porch with swinging bed and dining table (enclosed during the winter with a propane heater), fire pit and garage.

In the Winter this makes the prefect romantic weekend get away with the fireplaces.

Bring your mountain bikes and ride the gravel roads. Once you cross the Phoenix Historic RR Bridge there isn't much traffic and it is the only way in and out to the cabin. There are great trails within an hour drive; Scenic Jackson, Greenbrier River Trail and the New River Trail.

There is hiking; Roaring Run, Douthat State Park and many others in the two National Forests: Jefferson (in front of the cabin) and George Washington National Forest.

Water: There is our pristine Craig Creek, James River (we are at the section called the "Upper James River Trail" the section from Eagle Rock to Springwood is a 14 miles stretch labeled 'Virginia Scenic River System') , the Jackson River and the Cow Pasture both make up the James River. They are located approximately 13.8 miles north. If you don't have water vehicles they can rented at Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan. Full Service Fishing Guide "Rock On Charters" Muskie and Small Mouth Bass; everything provided but VA Fishing License. They'll even pick you up!

There is SO MUCH TO DO! Within an hour drive is Roanoke, Lexington or Lewisburg, WV (home of the WV State Fair in August). Hot Springs with the Thomas Jefferson Hot Springs to soak in what is believed to be healing waters and sking. Wineries with entertainment and a brewery. History! You are stay in one of the two original counties of this country, Botetourt with historic Fincastle just down the road. Clifton Forge is a must see town. There is even a cave open to the public between Clifton Forge and Low Moor. Bring your own equipment because you're on your own!

If you want to stay in there are movies and board games. This is the place we go to get away from the world and electronics, so Sorry, no cable or internet! We'll always help you locate what it is you want to see or do. Visit Seay's Escape on Facebook.

About April "Dawn" Seay

Larry and I have been together since 1981 and married in 1984. We've owned a dog grooming shop for the past 25 years. We have two sons that love to come down there with us and bring their their friends to fish, hike and kayak or just hang out. We plan to retire on this lot, so we can continue to enjoy the great outdoors! Our sons are in college and heading to college. We are still traveling quite a bit. We don't have the time go to the cabin as much as we would like so we thought we'd try renting it as a vacation home.

April "Dawn" Seay purchased this cabin in 2007

Why April "Dawn" Seay chose Shenandoah Valley

We have always loved Craig Creek area. After many years of dreaming about owning a place on the creek, this lot came available at the right time for us. So in 2012 we built our garage and a large RV pad. Well, that turned into a temporary cabin and screen porch. We have plans to build our permanent retire home adjacent to the garage.

What makes this cabin unique

This tiny cabin took nearly two years to complete. It has 60 yr reclaimed beaded pine boards from a house in Blacksburg and another in Vinton. 80 yr old rough sawn tongue and groove doors from a cabin in Salem. 60 yr Metal cabinets from a home in Lynchburg. The bathroom vanity is an antique washstand refinished and converted. When hand building and designing this cabin I wanted to feel great when I was there and so all the special touches were done to create that atomosphere. We hope you'll feel the same.

A Perfect Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I spent several quiet days together at Seay’s Cabin, the perfect getaway for any pair of lovers, young or old, looking for a place to relax and unwind. The cabin has a charming feel and is, as a previous reviewer said, beautifully designed, from the hue of the wood flooring to the many bear decorations. You’ll feel at home there, spending the day hiking or exploring the area and your nights sitting around the fire pit and looking up at the stars. There’s lots to do in the area but, to be honest, we spent most of our time relaxing in the swinging bed. Most of the best activities are within a 35 minute drive, so nothing unreasonable. Dawn provided a very useful binder with local attractions and their personal recommendations. Apart from the cabin, Dawn was incredibly responsive and gracious host. We never had any issues and would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in western Virginia.

A Wonderful Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at a serene place that offers everything a person could need for a weekend. The cabin was not quite like the pictures.. it was even better! The cabin was clean, well furnished and adorably decorated. I hope to steal some of those decorating ideas! The guest book was great at giving instructions on how to operate heat, air conditioner, etc. It also had great write-ups of places to visit near by and places to eat. Great hiking and great local country-cooking restaurants! We can't wait to go back in the spring when the fishing is good and the mountains change their colors to green! Plenty left to see in the area and would like some warmer weather to enjoy the wonderful screened in porch!

Lovely cabin for getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here October 25-27. The cabin is just as described. Well stocked, nice and clean and comfortable. The porch with the swing was my favorite part and even though it was really cold in the morning, I would wrap up on a blanket with a cup of coffee and swing on it. You can see the mountains and it is in a beautiful part of the country. Dawn's customer service is great; she responds to inquiries quickly and she also leaves thorough instructions on anything you might need to do - like turn on the heat! We ate in Clifton Forge at Jack Mason's which was great, and Maw and Paw's diner in Eagle Rock. People in this part of the country are really friendly. We hiked Roaring Run which is close by and we kayaked the James River out of Buchanan. We avoided any bigger towns as this was a true getaway and this cabin was the perfect place to stay.

Cozy little getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to find a place that was relatively close to Douthat State Park as we were there to do some mountain biking. Seay's Escape was only about 30 minutes away and a very cute place! The house had everything we needed to be comfortable. We loved hanging out on the front porch in the swinging bed watching the horses. Dawn was on top of all communications and extremely efficient and friendly! Thanks so much for a great Fall getaway!

Cozy stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great time at your property. We needed to get away from the city for a few days to relax and recharge, and your place was perfect for that! The porch swing was our favorite part-it was so nice to sit out there and read, relax, and nap. The two horses out back were a nice surprise! They were so beautiful to see each day! Your home had everything we needed for our stay- the one thing we couldn't find was a deck of cards so we bought some at the local Kelleys market and left it there for future guests :) Thanks for letting us stay, we loved it!
