About Mary Sullivan

We purchased this "Lake Escape" in Jan. 2012. Our draw to this quaint, tranquil setting, is it's calming tranquility. There's plenty to do for the outdoor enthusiasts, and it's only 45 minutes to the NH State Capital in Concord, 15 minutes to Keene, and close to many other recreational activities. Our family (including our black lab, Stella), decided it's time to share this gem with other families.

Mary Sullivan purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Mary Sullivan chose Monadnock Region

Close to modern amenities and cultural activities, the quaint town of Stoddard is perfect for escaping the chaos. You'll experience a simpler way of life as you cross the wooden bridge, and wind around the corners on your climb up Shedd Hill Road. This cabin, and it's surroundings, has an abundance of natural beauty. It's ideal for year round outdoor enthusiasts, from hiking, walking, biking, fishing, boating, berry picking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, local art, bird watching, and so much more.....

What makes this cabin unique

Who doesn't dream of staying in a rustic log cabin on a lake? This beauty is ideal for creating traditions and memories to last a lifetime......Kicking back in the rocking chairs on the screened porch listening to the loons. Take a trip down to the Marina for breakfast, lunch or dinner (and a cocktail). Check out the ice cream and penny candy while you're there. Enjoy a hike, take a journey up panoramic Pitcher Mountain to the climb the fire tower, drive or walk to the top of Blueberry Mountain to pick buckets of blueberries.

Beautiful log cabin on a beautiful lake!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place to stay! We stayed at a perfect time in September, so the lake was quiet and it felt like we were the only 2 people on the small street. The cabin was clean, cozy and felt homey. The beds were comfortable and we loved sitting out on the screened in porch for coffee in the morning. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and we enjoyed using the charcoal grill. We used the kayaks and explored the lake and did some fishing right from the lakefront. We found plenty of places to hike nearby and even did Monadnock one day! We enjoyed the quiet and when we wanted noise and people, it was a short 30 minute drive into Keene for shopping and restaurants. Overall this place is great for just about anybody!

A great getaway for couples or families.

  • 5 of 5

Nestled in the woods , within a short amble to the beautiful shore of Highland Lake, this cabin has so many little extras. (A treasure trove of stuff under the breezeway was a pleasant surprise.)

The hammock, multiple places to sit and relax, the firepit and charcoal grill, the kayaks and rowboat and the screened in breezeway all make this an inviting place to kick back and leave the hustle of modern living to others for a while.

During the day we napped on the hammock, watched the chipmunks scurry around and enjoyed the nearly perfect weather. At night we took in the complete darkness broken only when we looked up to gaze at the stars through the canopy of trees that surrounded us.

The nearby marina afforded us another great view of the lake as well as really good food and friendly service at great prices. We rented a motorized rowboat and traveled the length of the lake, taking in the first changes in the autumn foliage. (The only real drawback was that after Labor Day, the marina cuts its days of operation to Fri-Sun.)

The nearby General Store had just enough of the basics to make shopping there a great alternative to heading to "the big city" , and my wife really liked what could well be the world's smallest Post Office, which is little more than a cubicle at the end of the store.

A short drive took us to Pitcher Mountain where we rewarded with panoramic mountain views. (Do not miss this...a short, though slightly steep walk is well worth the effort)

In closing, I'd like to thank Mary who helped make this trip seamless and was kind enough to extend our stay by a day.

Labor Day Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect for our needs. Lots to do in the local area! The propane heater in the LR was awesome, as it did get chilly at night. Having access to the kayaks and bikes was also a big plus. Overall a great experience

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your long weekend get away. For the unofficial end of Summer, you certainly did have a couple of cool nights! The new gas stove in the LR is one of our favorite updates. There's nothing quite like sitting by toasty warm fire when there's a chill in the air! Come visit again!

The cabin was just what we wanted. Our host Mary Sullivan was very nice and always quick to respond

This cabin had so many ammeneties. It was very clean. The beds were really comfortable. The fire pit was fun at night. The house sat across from quiet Highland Lake. The hill to get to the row boat was too steep for my elderly mother so we went over to the marina and rented a pontoon boat. April the manager was helpful and made it a special day. Mary supplied a row boat that my husband and son used for fishing.. We had a Good time and definitely will be back. This cabin was supplied with everything I needed and more.

Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect cabin in the woods. Private, peaceful, everything you need. We enjoyed reading on the screened porch in comfy rocking chairs, lounging in the hammock, floating on the lake, and sitting by the fire pit at night. Mary provides for a relaxing, comfortable stay. And yes, you'll hear the loons!
