Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday townhome in Zona Centro - Villa Oasis

2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-6, center, panoramic view of the cit

Villa Oasis is one of the most luxurious vacation rentals in the heart of Guanajuato. It can be a retreat for artists, writers, amateur chefs, and anyone who wants to be close to the cultural amenities of Guanajuato centro without the hassle of walking long distances or taking a taxi. Situated a block from Callejon del Beso and within 5 minutes walking distance to Teatro Juarez, one can be at home to rest and relax between activities in very little time. The retreat is a three-story townhouse, with a rooftop garden on the third floor, the master bedroom on the second, the kitchen on the first, a recessed living room and a daylight basement where the second bedroom is. The house is full of light with high ceilings, large windows and a skylight on the top floor.

Villa Oasis has a system of purified water and a reverse osmosis water filter for drinking water. The water pressure is consistent and strong from every faucet and shower on every floor. In the kitchen is a tap for the reverse osmosis drinking water. The house has a 96 sq ft rooftop patio. In the center third of the patio is a tempered glass cover with 70% UV protection. There are outdoor cafe tables and cushioned seats, where you can enjoy an expansive view of the uniquely colorful city, including the surrounding hills, the Alhondiga, Mercado Hildago, the church of San Roque, and El Pipila and the University.

The master bedroom on the second floor has maple flooring, a king size bed, a full-length mirror, and it's own living room for two, separated by a retractable curtain. Pella windows, installed throughout the house, are double glazed with interior shades to keep out noise and night light from the busy centro streets. Black out shades can cover the floor length windows for additional sleep quality. The bedroom has a small balcony that looks out onto Callejon San Cristobal. It has it's own bathroom with marble floors, a shower, a double sink made of granite, and a bidet. The oasis theme continues with sliding doors that open on to a covered patio with an outdoor table and chairs and the same gorgeous view as the rooftop deck .

One floor down, the contemporary kitchen has the great view of the city again, through panoramic Pella windows. It is fully equipped for baking and cooking, and with the market near by one has access to all the diverse and seasonal fruits and vegetables that Mexico has to offer. There is a full refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and a gas oven and stovetop with a warming oven for plates and/or food. We've roasted turkey, and made pizza, panettone, and French bread in the oven. In front of the windows there is a large mesquite table that seats 8 comfortably. On the far wall is the kitchen 'oasis', a lovely crying wall made from local stone that is filled at the base with a variety of orchids.

For morning coffee one has the option of a stovetop espresso maker with grinder and beans, or a regular drip coffee maker.

As one enters the slate covered hallway of the house on a hot sunny day directly from the busy street of Callejon San Cristobal, one is met with a refreshing coolness that feels like air conditioning. The house is insulated quite well and in the summer it can be at least 10 degrees cooler than the street. We also provide a fan and there is an air-conditioning unit that can be used on very hot days. In the winter we provide space heaters. From the entry way one can walk directly into the kitchen or walk five steps down into the recessed living room with maple flooring, on street level. The living room is a comfortable place for playing board games, socializing or reading.

From the living room going down to the daylight basement there is a wide marble staircase covered with a custom designed hand woven wool Oaxacan rug, and flanked by a built in bookcase, with many books on the history and archeology of Mexico, among other subjects.

At the bottom of the staircase is the daylight basement with an entertainment area with a TV, DVD player and a Playstation blueray. Opposite the TV area is a cozy sitting area with an electric fireplace, a queen pullout sofa bed. Another amenity in the basement hallway is an exercise bike, a workout ball, a miracle ball, 2 sets of weights, 3 & 5 lbs, and an exercise mat. Below the library is a writer's desk and chair with a desk light. Opposite is the guest bathroom with a large oval mirror and granite counter top.

The very end of the hallway below the library leads to a recessed second bedroom. It has a queen size bed, a closet, and a full-length mirror and dresser. The bedroom and adjoining bathroom and shower floors are made of light marble with the bathroom counter top made of granite.

The washer and dryer are located in the half bath on the rooftop. Other amenities include a wireless printer. There is also a comfortable inflatable queen size air mattress for sleeping under the stars on the roof top patio.

I have a few suggestions regarding the seasons and also the neighborhood fiesta on our street.

First of all the rainy season begins in July and goes into September. A sudden unexpected downpour can hit one during this season. It's exciting and dramatic, but you need to be prepared. It's a good idea to bring an umbrella, a raincoat and waterproof boots or shoes. Moreover, the paving stones in centro can be quite slippery when wet. If you have shoes that are non-slip or have a good tread you might want to bring them.

During the winter season from December into March there are nights where occasionally the temperatures can drop into the 30's. Most houses in Mexico do not have built in heating. We provide a space heater for each bedroom and two blankets for each bed.

Finally, each neighborhood in Mexico has it's own patron saint and his/her special feast day. St Anthony of Padua is Callejon San Cristobal's patron and around June 13th the neighborhood celebrates for two or three days! The street is completely closed to traffic during the fiesta.

If you decide to stay at Villa Oasis you can be assured of a relaxing vacation in the heart of Guanajuato.

About Antoinette Ferrari

I've lived here almost three years, and have enjoyed all the cultural activities and the good food that the town has to offer. My husband, Julio, and I have spent much of the time completing the remodel of Villa Oasis. It's time now to share this beautiful home with vacationers. I'm looking forward to going home to Seattle so that I can be closer to my daughters and relatives.

Antoinette Ferrari purchased this townhome in 2011

Why Antoinette Ferrari chose Guanajuato

The property at Callejon San Cristobal was handed down to me as a remodel. I was happy to take on the challenge with Julio, who is an amazing contractor and skilled carpenter, and together we have enjoyed turning it into a comfortable vacation home.

What makes this townhome unique

We have installed a reverse osmosis purified water system, so that when first time travelers to Mexico arrive it makes for an easier transition. There is a north facing view of the town with all it's colorful houses and churches, a nice view of the Alhondiga, and the market and the University of Gto from the kitchen and patio. Not to mention that it is in the center of town, one block from Callejon del Beso, and five minutes from the Jardin and Teatro Juarez. There is good accessibility to a fruit and vegetable store on the corner, a laundromat, an OXXO, and a farmacia all one block away, and the hospital is less than four blocks away. Monuments are no more than 5-10 minutes walking distance. Taxis go past our front door often. You can take a taxi to the bus station in town and take a bus to any city or town in Mexico. The closest towns to visit are San Miguel de Allende, and Dolores Hidalgo. The house is very well suited for two couples.

Outstanding Home

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect! The house is beautiful and in a great location. We were there for one month and found the layout and all furniture in the house very comfortable. Our favorite parts of the house were the kitchen/dining room and the shaded deck off the bedroom. We kept the humming bird feeder filled and watched all the activity of the birds and the town. Nina was wonderful to work with and has a magnificent manager who was always available to help with anything we needed.

I would highly recommend this property.

A wonderful house in a great location in Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house. Well stocked with everything we wanted. The only thing better than the location is the view from the two roof patios. Very responsive owner and local contact. We loved it.

Fabulous property in a fabulous city! Highly Recommended

  • 5 of 5

Villa Oasis is located in a safe, historic central part of Guanajuato. It is within 5 minutes walk to shops, restaurants, markets and restaurants. The house is very clean, comfortable, elegant and well appointed with quality furnishings and linens. The spacious, modern kitchen was well supplied and stocked with quality items. The 360 vista from the rooftop terrace was always a source of joy. The city of Guanajuato is a jewel worth a visit. Damage deposit very promptly refunded

As mentioned in previous reviews, the property is situated on a fairly steep hill and lots of stairs within the villa -- not for anyone with mobility challenges.

Los Campos is a reasonably priced tapas restaurant located off the Plaza Baratillo. Some servers speak English. Israel Torres, a very congenial and knowledgable, English-speaking driver/guide, is highly recommended for a tour within Guanajuato or to other nearby cities such as Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel de Allende.

So lovely!

  • 5 of 5

We are 2 seniors who traveled to Guanajuato to have ten days with our 30 year old and his partner. The house was perfect for our needs, provided lots of privacy and space all of us, was set close to the large and fun market and in the midst of the old center of town while being somewhat tucked away at the same time. The residence is very elegant, filled with light, completely comfortable and easy to relax in. The kitchen is really fun to cook in with a spectacular view of the "city." The photos on website do not entirely capture the beauty of the house interior. Breakfast and reading in the sun on the terraces were the best! Both the owner and the in-town manager, Carlos, were enormously helpful and responsive to various needs for problem-solving. We were very grateful to have our vacation in this particular home and would be delighted to return another winter.

Hands down the best rental for enjoying Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival we were greeted by Gregory, who had also arranged transportation for us (additional charge) from the Leon airport to the door of our Villa Oasis residence for the next 9 days. It is a four-floor palace of tilework with nice little landings for privacy or conversation. The beds were fine for four of us (wish the lower one was bigger), the master opening up to its own deck over the city. As with every rental, there were glitches at Villa Oasis (reverse osmosis unit kept "gurgling" much to our annoyance--something that will undoubtedly be fixed for the next renters) but this did not take away from the opulence of the place. It really is a fine residence.

Guanajuato is noisy, being a working Mexican community, so earplugs are essential for sleep especially during any celebration or holiday period (firecrackers know no time limit, nor do roosters or tourist groups). But we're from the mountains of Colorado, and mixing into a vibrant, living community was exactly what we wanted. Unlike most Mexican destinations--not only beach resorts but even nearby San Miguel de Allende--, Guanajuato is almost devoid of American and European tourists, which for us added to the experience. There are Mexican tourists, yes, but they blend into the scene and it is native Mexico all the way. Our enjoyment of Guanajuato makes me forget that this is a review of Villa Oasis, not the city itself, so let me get back to that.

Bottom line, if you are inclined to delve into Mexico choose Guanajuato, and if you do choose Villa Oasis. We felt well cared-for by Gregory, our damage deposit was returned promptly by Antoinette, the owner, and the spacious, well-appointed apartment was more than ample for our group. Enjoy!
