Villa Oasis is one of the most luxurious vacation rentals in the heart of Guanajuato. It can be a retreat for artists, writers, amateur chefs, and anyone who wants to be close to the cultural amenities of Guanajuato centro without the hassle of walking long distances or taking a taxi. Situated a block from Callejon del Beso and within 5 minutes walking distance to Teatro Juarez, one can be at home to rest and relax between activities in very little time. The retreat is a three-story townhouse, with a rooftop garden on the third floor, the master bedroom on the second, with its own garden patio, the kitchen on the first, a recessed living room and a daylight basement where the second bedroom is. The house is full of light with high ceilings, large windows and a skylight on the top floor.

Villa Oasis has a system of purified water and a reverse osmosis water filter for drinking water. The water pressure is consistent and strong from every faucet and shower on every floor. In the kitchen is a tap for the reverse osmosis drinking water. The house has a 96 sq ft rooftop patio. In the center third of the patio is a tempered glass cover with 70% UV protection. There are outdoor cafe tables and cushioned seats, where you can enjoy an expansive view of the uniquely colorful city, including the surrounding hills, the Alhondiga, Mercado Hildago, the church of San Roque, and El Pipila and the University.

The master bedroom on the second floor has maple flooring, a king size bed, a full-length mirror, and it's own living room for two, separated by a retractable curtain. Pella windows, installed throughout the house, are double glazed with interior shades to keep out noise and night light from the busy centro streets. Black out shades can cover the floor length windows for additional sleep quality. The bedroom has a small balcony that looks out onto Callejon San Cristobal. It has it's own bathroom with marble floors, a shower, a double sink made of granite, and a bidet. The oasis theme continues with sliding doors that open on to a covered patio with an outdoor table and chairs and the same gorgeous view as the rooftop deck .

One floor down, the contemporary kitchen has the great view of the city again, through panoramic Pella windows. It is fully equipped for baking and cooking, and with the market near by one has access to all the diverse and seasonal fruits and vegetables that Mexico has to offer. There is a full refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and a gas oven and stovetop with a warming oven for plates and/or food. We've roasted turkey, and made pizza, panettone, and French bread in the oven. In front of the windows there is a large mesquite table that seats 8 comfortably.

As one enters the slate covered hallway of the house on a hot sunny day directly from the busy street of Callejon San Cristobal, one is met with a refreshing coolness that feels like air conditioning. The house is insulated quite well and in the summer it can be at least 10 degrees cooler than the street. We also provide a fan and there is an air-conditioning unit that can be used on very hot days. In the winter we provide space heaters. From the entry way one can walk directly into the kitchen or walk five steps down into the recessed living room with maple flooring, on street level. The living room is a comfortable place for playing board games, socializing or reading.

From the living room going down to the daylight basement there is a wide marble staircase covered with a custom designed hand woven wool Oaxacan rug, and flanked by a built in bookcase, with many books on the history and archeology of Mexico, among other subjects.

At the bottom of the staircase is the daylight basement with an entertainment area with a TV, DVD player. Opposite the TV area is a cozy sitting area with an electric fireplace, a queen pullout sofa bed. Another amenity in the basement hallway is an exercise bike, 2 sets of weights, 3 & 5 lbs, and an exercise mat. Below the library is a writer's desk and chair with a desk light. Opposite is the guest bathroom with a large oval mirror and granite counter top.

The very end of the hallway below the library leads to a recessed second bedroom. It has a queen size bed, a closet, and a full-length mirror and dresser. The bedroom and adjoining bathroom and shower floors are made of light marble with the bathroom counter top made of granite.

The washer and dryer are located in the half bath on the rooftop. Other amenities include a wireless printer.

I have a few suggestions regarding the seasons and also the neighborhood fiesta on our street.

First of all the rainy season begins in July and goes into September. A sudden unexpected downpour can hit one during this season. It's exciting and dramatic, but you need to be prepared. It's a good idea to bring an umbrella, a raincoat and waterproof boots or shoes. Moreover, the paving stones in centro can be quite slippery when wet. If you have shoes that are non-slip or have a good tread you might want to bring them.

During the winter season from December into March there are nights where occasionally the temperatures can drop into the 30's. Most houses in Mexico do not have built in heating. We provide a space heater for each bedroom and two blankets for each bed.

Finally, each neighborhood in Mexico has it's own patron saint and his/her special feast day. St Anthony of Padua is Callejon San Cristobal's patron and around June 13th the neighborhood celebrates for two or three days! The street is completely closed to traffic during the fiesta.

If you decide to stay at Villa Oasis you can be assured of a relaxing vacation in the heart of Guanajuato city.

About Antoinette Ferrari

I've lived here almost three years, and have enjoyed all the cultural activities and the good food that the town has to offer. My husband, Julio, and I have spent much of the time completing the remodel of Villa Oasis. It's time now to share this beautiful home with vacationers. I'm looking forward to going home to Seattle so that I can be closer to my daughters and relatives.

Why Antoinette Ferrari chose Zona Centro

The property at Callejon San Cristobal was handed down to me as a remodel. I was happy to take on the challenge with Julio, who is an amazing contractor and skilled carpenter, and together we have enjoyed turning it into a comfortable vacation home.

What makes this townhome unique

We have installed a reverse osmosis purified water system, so that when first time travelers to Mexico arrive it makes for an easier transition. There is a north facing view of the town with all it's colorful houses and churches, a nice view of the Alhondiga, and the market and the University of Gto from the kitchen and patio. Not to mention that it is in the center of town, one block from Callejon del Beso, and five minutes from the Jardin and Teatro Juarez. There is good accessibility to a fruit and vegetable store on the corner, a laundromat, an OXXO, and a farmacia all one block away, and the hospital is less than four blocks away. Monuments are no more than 5-10 minutes walking distance. Taxis go past our front door often. You can take a taxi to the bus station in town and take a bus to any city or town in Mexico. The closest towns to visit are San Miguel de Allende, and Dolores Hidalgo. The house is very well suited for two couples.

A gem of a place!

Absolutely lovely home in an ideal location in Guanajuato. Located only a two minute walk from El Callejon del Beso, this gorgeous house is close enough to many of Guanajuato's best locations yet far enough to not hear the nightly activities of the city. A walk to restaurants is only a few minutes away and teatro Juarez is about 10 minutes walking. The house is extremely spacious, split in four levels. There is an amazing terrace just off the master bedroom that has views to Guanajuato. The top terrace also has a huge terrace with even better unobstructed views of Guanajuato. From these terraces you can see the Mercado Hidalgo on the left, and to the right, the University of Guanajuato, the catedral, even the monument of El Pipila. Propery is very well maintained with a large kitchen, Pella windows to let the breeze and sounds of Guanajuato enter, comfortable bed, washer and dryer (top terrace), and everything you will need for your stay. Nina was very responsive and Gregory (manager in Guanajuato) was extremely helpful in finding transportation from the airport as well as within Guanajuato (to San Miguel de Allende). I highly recommend this lovely home. If there is anything that might be an issue to anyone, it would be that the house is on a street at an elevation and walking with luggage up the street could be challenging to some. However, we saw this as a plus as it provided the amazing views.

Spectacular view, location, home and host! We had an awesome experience.

This was the third place we stayed in while in Guanajuato during this visit. Every place had something different to offer. We loved having the amazing view at this home, which we didn't have previously. The location was great, close to the center, walking distance from Hidalgo market, ten minute walk to Teatro Juarez. It was bustling every day and night, but the house is quiet and almost insulated from it all, retreat-like. We appreciated the quiet being available when we wanted it, yet the bustle available whenever we wanted too - all so close! The kitchen is very well equipped. The house is well equipped with almost everything you could need. Greg was very helpful and available whenever we had a question. The house is pretty spread out, from a bedroom below the first floor, and the bedroom on the second floor. Plenty of walking of stairs, so for someone with difficulty walking, or with stairs, I wouldn't recommend, but it is safe with wide stairs and railings. The walk to the house is steep for a short time only. Not difficult. Small children would be challenging to manage here, in this house layout. (We didn't have children with us). We felt lucky to be able to reserve this place on short notice, there happen to be an opening when we needed it! Nina was responsive and helpful and quickly solved a small issue that came up. I would definitely choose it again, with a balance of some time without all the gringo necessities for part of the trip, as we did this time. It is so perfect, you could forget where you are.

Very attractive high end modern decor house

  • 5 of 5

The one thing we appreciated the most was the filtered water from the faucet.

The kitchen was well equipped and well supplied. They even had coffee grinder and all you the equipments you could think of. It was conveniently located. The view from the deck was spectacular. It was a bit too chilly to have our morning coffee on the deck. But we enjoyed afternoon cocktails before our dinner. The town has a very local feel and not overrun by tourists. Greg, the manager, arranged for us a pickup and drop off service to and from the Leon airport and we asked the driver to take us to San Miguel de Allende for a day (8am-5pm). I recommend this beautiful house.

Wonderful artistic place with super view!

  • 5 of 5

Villa Oasis has so many extras - walkability score of 100! so close to enjoy so much of Guanajuato. My husband and I walked to our language school in the mornings - home for lunch - (so great to have pure drinking water at the house) - then soak in the views and on to a siesta! Food was easy to find and reasonable. We both like hard mattresses and so were a little concerned that the main bed was soft - it was actually really comfy - no back problems. I loved the church bells and city sounds but probably would avoid the Ash Wednesday celebrations in the future - lots of late night party noise - we used earplugs for those nights, could have tried white noise app on our phones. Anyway, we LOVED staying here and appreciated the car service to & from the airport with Israel and how responsive Nina and Greg were.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Despite some very chilly weather, we had a great stay for ten days in January 2018. The location is great - a very short walk to all activities and sights in the City center. The house is furnished and equipped well. Greg was very helpful in getting us settled, offering recommendations and arranging a ride to the airport. The view from the two decks is stunning. Yes, there is a lot of dog barking along with ringing church bells, but that’s life in Guanajuato.

We were just two people, but the house would be great for two couples with its sleeping areas and bathrooms separated by two floors and its overall spaciousness.
