We are artists in the field of film and theatre. After years of city living both in NYC and LA, we have finally realized our dream of buying a home in the country with a guest house for our large family and artist friends who want to retreat from their busy worlds to write, paint, rehearse new works or just enjoy the sights and rest.
Jolene Adams purchased this cottage in 2013
We have been looking for the right place for five years and dreaming of the right place for many more. We knew we wanted an old stone house on enough acreage to feel away from it all but close enough to people so we wouldn't be isolated. Close enough to NYC but far away enough to be in the country. We wanted lots of old trees. And, if it wasn't too much to hope for, some water on the property too. When we saw the incredible BlueMountain House built in 1793 with it's sweet guest house, both newly renovated, it was love at first sight!
Both the main house and the guest house are beautifully and loving restored. The landscape design is very special, so natural and rustically sophisticated if that makes any sense! Our favorite thing is sitting outside with our morning coffee and watching the birds and the occasional chipmunk or deer forage nearby.
Staying at Blue Mountain was wonderful on so many different levels. Our first impression was
"Welcome, welcome, welcome". The furnishings tasteful and warm, and all sorts of little things are set out to make you feel like you are the special guests Jolene and Grady were so looking forward to hosting...from fresh flowers from their lovely garden to fresh baked goods on the counter and lots in between! The cottage was ideal for our weekend retreat, beginning with the refreshing dip in their creek - after our long hot drive. We enjoyed the local trails as well as visiting Woodstock and Saugerties and truly appreciated the cozy comfort of their cottage after our busy days. We are already looking forward to our next stay at Blue Mountain Guest House!
The host has created an amazing little getaway...filled with beauty and light! All the little touches make it feel super cozy and homey....a perfect place to retreat into. It's surrounded by beautiful trees, close to the creek. It's just a perfect place to rest and rejuvenate! And the bed is super confy...and the towels super plush! Thanks Jolene for an amazing stay!
Hope to come back and stay again and again. It was a delight.
The cottage is well equipped, well organized, and offers a beautiful esthetic both inside and outside. The owners are helpful, accommodating, and responsive.
Jolene is a terrific host and the Blue Mountain Guest House and surrounding acres are simply wonderful.
The cottage offers the perfect amount of space for a couple (as well as a couple + a dog, which we are). The cottage is tastefully decorated and well-appointed - all the kitchen basics as well as some starter food items along with delicious muffins, granola, etc. Be aware that there is no oven just a range, not a big deal but if you wanted to roast a turkey you'd have a tough time.
The property is beautiful and offers the perfect amount of space for a big city dog to run around and eat sticks and tromp through streams and do all the things a dog loves to do. There are some large open yard areas as well as deeper woods with stream access. The property is set back from the road a bit so there's no immediate danger with the dog being off-leash while attended. There is also a swimming hole - though we did not partake as it was mid-October and chilly.
You will not be disappointed in the Blue Mountain Guest House. Book Now before we book it again!
