Ed and Susan Giroux live in Clifton Park New York. They have traveled to the mountain region of Lake Placid and Jay for vacation many times for hiking and kayaking. Unfortunately, each visit was always cut short due to their busy work schedules. In 2013 Ed retired and Sue dropped down to part time work. Now they could finally relax and spend some time in one of their favorite places in the world. The chalet was just the right vacation house for them. Large enough to accommodate a few friends or family for an over night stay and yet small enough so that it's cozy and affordable. They are currently working hard to make the place more attractive and add their personal touches. They look forward to sharing their home with others who might also appreciate it.
Ed Giroux purchased this chalet in 2013
Lake Placid and Saranac Lake are great places to visit, do some shopping and enjoy a lunch or dinner. However, after a few hours of the noise, and the smell of the car exhausts, it's nice to retreat back to the quiet forest and seek some refuge from all of this. This is why you come to the Adirondacks and this is why you come to our chalet in Ausable Acres. A quiet refuge from the noise and the crowds. Located less than 20 minutes from Lake Placid, 25 minutes from Keene, and right around the corner from great trout fishing in the AuSable river. There's a small pond just down the road, Fern lake is about 20 minutes away, and Whiteface mountain about 10 minutes away. There's plenty to do with many attractions nearby but at the end of the day a quiet, peaceful place to relax.
The great room is what makes this house what it is. When you sit in the great room you have the cathedral ceiling above you, the fireplace in front, and a wall of glass to your side where you look out to the deck and the forest below. There's a wonderful sense of openness and yet it's quite cozy. The wraparound deck is about 50 feet by 12 and it creates the feeling of a giant patio and extends the size of the house and recreational area.
Owner was easy to correspond with; provided detailed driving directions, details about the area and everything we needed to know about the house. 3 couples in our group, all were comfortable. Plenty of room. Kitchen was fully stocked with all cookware needed to feed 6 people easily. Most importantly, the place was CLEAN. Great location. Short drive to both Whiteface and the town of Lake Placid. Warm, user-friendly gas fireplace and space heaters kept everything toasty. Hosts left us a bottle of red wine which was a nice touch! Would definitely return!
The owner of this lovely chalet is very attentive and thorough. He provided very clear directions to the chalet as well as instructions on how to operate everything within. The setting is secluded and quiet. It was wonderful to come 'home' after a very long, challenging hike and relax in front of the fireplace.
My husband, 2 teenage kids and I had a wonderful time at the chalet during our 4 day visit. It was roomy, clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. We really liked the quiet wooded location and proximity to Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain and lots of hiking and fun outdoor activities. Ed was very easy to communicate with and a thoughtful host. We would definitely stay here again in the future!
A lovely ski weekend in a cozy home with everything we could have wanted! We were greeted with a nice bottle of wine which we drank by the fireplace after our long drive up. We had a great time skiing all day and enjoying the nightlife afterwards, thanks to some great tips from the owners. Everything was neat, clean, and as promised. We had a great breakfast at the local diner before our leave, also recommended by Ed. A+ all around! Will return.
Ed was great to deal with. He even left us a bottle of wine for our arrival. The house is really lovely. We had 4 people up there and it was the perfect size. More than enough room. A short drive from Whiteface, which was perfect for the 3 days of skiing we got in. Not too long to Lake Placid either. Would definitely go back, and recommend to friends and family.
