Inviting and comfortable holiday home suitable for romantic and/or family holidays. Pet friendly. Furnished to retain the character of the home. Located in a market town with all amenities within walking distance. Excellent for day trips to Bordeaux, LaRochelle, Poitier, the Gallo-Roman city of Saintes, and basking on the beach. Maison Kismet was built on a Roman road to Saintes, and has a Roman road sign as one of it's front corners. Built in the 18th Century, the house itself has a feeling of comfortable grandeur, with furnishings that are compatible with the age the house was built. Open the door and be transported as you enter the spacious foyer and see the original staircase winding up to the second floor. To the right is an inviting living room and the dining room, which seats up to 10 people. Soft sofa and chairs are gathered around the fireplace. Two French doors lead to the walled garden which is seasonally landscaped. In the late summer, pick your own apples. Behind the staircase awaits a typically
French kitchen, full of light and character with curtains in front of the shelves, and a buffet that stores the dishes, and a large gas stove/hob combination. The kitchen is well equipped for preparation of all meals from simple to complex. A rose festooned arbor covers the door to the private courtyard, which is THE place for having breakfast, or dining al fresco while the sun sets. Upstairs are four romantically decorated bedrooms, the bathroom with soaking tub and a shower, and a separate WC. High quality beds dressed in all cotton sheets and down comforters make for good sleeping at the end of each day. There is a private parking space at the rear of the house, and a washer and dryer available. Fridays are the market days in Gemozac, so a short walk up the street is all it takes to obtain fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, cheeses, and a morning of cultural exchange. The fragrance of artisanal breads and pastries wafts in the windows each morning from the boulangerie just up the street. An epicerie and a charcuterie are around the corner. A Super U (large grocery store) is a Km away. About 100 meters behind Maison Kismet is a yummy and very convenient Italian restaurant with outdoor dining during warmer months. The Hotel Lion D'Or in centreville has excellent meals by a chef from Paris, and a mean espressor in the mornings. We purchased Maison Kismet because it has the feeling of a gentler age, and is located where there's something for everyone. The towns people are friendly and helpful. There's a large community pool within a short walk, tennis courts and a park for children. Three golf courses are nearby. It's a great area for walks and bike riding - not to mention sampling the local wine, cognac and the region specialty, pineau, at the numerous vineyards throughout the area. We offer high speed WiFi, satellite TV, and a chance to experience the French joie de vivre while Maison Kismet is your holiday home.
