Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Tall Timbers - Tall Timbers Cottage in So MD

One-level, 2bedroom +Den, Easement to Water with Views of Woods and Water

Tall Timbers, the community, is actually a forgotten Maryland treasure where time stands still. It consists of two rows of houses situated between the Potomac River and a dense timbered forest. We are located 3 miles east of the Piney Point/ St. George's Island Bridge off Maryland Route 249 not far from where the Potomac River flows into the Chesapeake Bay.

This immaculate single level woodland home is both lovely and comfortable. It is a modern year-round retreat is equipped with linens and any other items you might expect in a well equipped home including Smart TVs, Cable, Netflix, Wi-Fi, and docking station. Beautiful interiors, nice woodland views and cozy central heat are complemented by electric fire place inside and a fire pit outside. Two of the three bedrooms are outfitted with comfortable queen-size beds, the third is set up as a den with 2nd fireplace (battery operated candles) and reclining sofa that transforms into a full bed.

You need to bring cloths and personal fishing poles.

The greenhouse-room is a great place to work on puzzles or family projects that will not need to be moved for dinner. Our cottage sits back from the water with spectacular sunset views afforded between the houses in front of us. A water access easement runs from our house to the river bulkhead.

If you must do laundry on vacation do it in a room with a view and own washing machine and dryer. Watch the animals that live within the forest from the many windows. The area is rich with birds, deer, turtles, and squirrels.

Outside: Fire pit, charcoal barbecue, picnic tables, even the workshop, fish table, and screened pavilion can be made available. Off-street parking you ask? There is plenty of room for the boat or RV in the driveway.

Tall Timbers Private Beach Club is short walk from the cottage. From our front windows you can see four miles across the water to the night-lights of Virginia. The river is so wide at this point that it appears to be the Bay.

Have you been to St. Mary's City (Colonial Historic Interpretive Park)? It is an easy 15 miles drive and a wonderful place to visit for the entire family! A little further down the road is Point Lookout where you can catch a ferry to Chesapeake Bay Islands, visit the historic Coast Guard Station, the Civil War Hospital Site, or see where the Potomac Rivers and Pautuxent Rivers empty into the Chesapeake Bay. To read more about our area we are in area known as Southern Maryland, along the shores of the National Parks scenic water-way.

About Lolly and Lindley

Our hearts belongs to the rural rivers, bays, and estuaries and we enjoy helping you find the hidden paths around the Historic St. Mary County and the Potomac River inlets. At work, we are a university professor teaching architectual history, and a maritime-historian.

Lolly and Lindley purchased this house in 2003

Why Lolly and Lindley chose Maryland

Tall Timbers is a sleepy waterfront community is where people pass slow summer days; huge Rockfish are caught in the creeks, crabs from docks; and there are more places to paddle than you will have time available to visit:

*Historic Old Mill Gift Store,

*Historic St. Mary’s City

*One Room Little red schoolhouse

*Drayden Afro-American school house.

*Piney Point Light House and Museum

*German U-Boat Underwater Park

*The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum (PAX)

*Point Lookout State Park and Civil War Museum

*Sotterley Plantation,

*St. Clement's Island-Potomac River Museum

*Calvert Maritime Museum.

*Anna Marie Gardens and Sculpture Forest.

During the winter the community is magical and can be winter wonderland. Fall colors are magnificent, especially when you realize you are not the one to rake the leaves. Just watch them fall. Be on the look out for deep discounts of midweek - midwinter visits.

What makes this house unique

Southern Maryland in the Winter is MAGIC. Toast to First Friday wine tasting at local wineries. The National Potomac Heritage Scenic Trail is at our front door, there is a wide variety of wildlife and beautiful vistas of Herring Creek and the Potomac River can be seen along this trail. Conditions and distances will vary depending on which route, creek or coves are explored. Experienced paddlers may continue onto the open waters of the Potomac River. Bird watchers may love in love with the creeks.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tall Timbers cottage was not available for the last 5 years as it was rented to a base contractor. Once he left the entire house was gutted and refurnished so we apologize for the older reviews. We spent our first night in the cottage after the construction was finished a couple of weeks agao and it is better than ever. I love the new woodland paths and the enlarged shower. Cell phone service is catching up with the rest of the modern world. Southern Maryland is seeing a few more visitors, and services are becoming even easier to find.

Beautiful, low key getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We booked last minute when we saw there was a cancellation over a holiday weekend. Lolly was super responsive and helpful, and the house was adorable, convenient, and just what we were looking for. Tall Timbers is made for families, and the little beach and kid-friendly marina restaurant were perfect for our toddler. We had a problem with the cable- which we only cared about because it was raining!- and Lolly called and helped us work if out. We never did get the Internet working, but we played outside and didn't mind since we were having so much fun as a family. The house has everything you need, the kitchen has all the extras, and the only thing we'd recommend is stopping for groceries on your way in.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that the property served your needs. I know you traveled a long way to attend this important St. Mary's Graduation but we hope you come back when you have more time to go fishing in the creek, or take a ride on a skipjack.

Great Cottage in Tall Timbers

  • 5 of 5

This property was all we could have asked for and more. We (mom, dad, 7 month old, and dog) stayed in this cottage for 6 weeks while our house was being finished and it was absolutely amazing. First off Tall Timbers is such a great little community. All of the neighbors were extremely friendly and welcoming. The marina down the road and the restaurant are amazing and such a great place to hang out.

The cottage itself was just the right size for our extended 6 week stay. We were not walking all over each other and we did not rent a house that was so big that we were waisting money. It has everything you could need in it from wifi to pretty much every kitchen gadget you would need. It was very clean and everything worked. I literally cannot think of one bad thing to write about it. We were not able to utilize some of the outdoor amenities that were provided just due to the weather being too cool.

Finally the owners are absolutely amazing. They were very accommodating with our unique situation and were very responsive whenever we had an issue or question.

I would highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a little getaway in Southern MD. I would stay there again in a heartbeat if I wasn't living 30 min away. Book now and don't miss out on this amazing gem.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts Matt. I agree that staying in a vacation rental house has many advantages as solution while making changes, taking on contract work, or reducing the number of days needing to commute. Off season is the perfect time to try something new, and walk into a home already set up as your own or to make extended family comfortable while they are still close by. Many happy wishes you you all.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Very lovely home, very clean, very well stocked. We really enjoyed the week. We were here for a ladies family week and had a little one as well as my elderly mother and it was lovely for them both and everyone in between. We went to the water/beach for stunning sunsets, had dinner at local places, went to St. Mary's City for the museums and a tour, hung out in Solomon's Island...it was relaxing, calm, and entertaining. The house was incredibly well stocked...for cooking & entertainment. The people in the area are incredibly friendly as was Lolly. Highly recommend. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Sharing our home was a scaring experience when we first started, however over the past ten years we have come to enjoy our guests and learn new things about Southern Maryland. For example, you mentioned you headed out to St. Mary's City to grab a bite not realizing it was a living history museum. Thank you for that comment know we know how we can improve our guest's hospitality pages by including more food options for breakfast and areas near the museum. In fact today, we took a drive to check out first hand some of the great local hidden gems that we had not visited for a while. It is through our guests that this experience keeps getting better. Thank you for taking the time. Please note that this area is also spectacular during the winter. We are open year round even when icicles form on the docks and the river freezes. Our dinning room table opens to accommodate a crowd.

Cute cottage

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is cute.

The beach is more accessible via car - unless you're willing to walk through other people's back yard/pier.

The dining table is great for entertaining. The rooms are a little tight but functional. Ideally a good place to rent for parents with 2-4 kids.

Good and safe neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write. I agree the car is an easy way to the beach and you are able to visit many more areas nearby via car, however I do love the walk along the bulk head. I also agree the house works best for 2-6 people. Two of the bedrooms have identical queen beds, the third bedroom is set up as a den with fold down sofa, and fireplace.

Owner's Response: The central location is true even though we are in the deep country sandwiched between 200 acres of Timber and the Potomac River. Some of the wonderful places nearby include: Historic St. Mary's City, Point Look Out, Ferries to the Chesapeake Islands; Anne Marie Sculpture Gardens; Calvert Cliffs Fossil Beach, Calvert Maritime Museum, Piney Point Light House, Sotterly Plantation. Amish Market, Historic Great Mills, and St. George's Island.
