Homely, quiet, interesting and inviting, this little guest house is a well-kept secret . Set in the middle of the beautiful 15-hectare orange grove, in the valley of mount Taygetus, the guest house is a wonderfully quiet, agro-tourist retreat, with a twist of urban architecture.
Four elegant en suite- bedrooms, a lovely garden, and a relaxed dining area comprise this small warm and friendly accommodation.
The ground floor, which opens onto the garden, has a lounging area with lush cushions where one can enjoy a wide variety of books from the small library situated over the fireplace. Each house is also equipped with a small kitchenette for preparing quick snacks from fresh produce off the garden, if one feels like preparing a simple meal. The top floor is perfect to snuggle up and “cocoon” in bed with a good book on a cold winter day and enjoy the view of the mountains, often covered in snow until the early spring months.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room and we like to offer local products of the land for a richer experience.
Summer is warm and the nearby beaches of Mavrovouni are only 45 mins away. We would love to pack a beach pic nic basket and help you explore the region.
We also organise overseas guests on their quest of local family heritage and trips to local historical sites such as Mystras and Geraki.
I grew up in the city of Athens and studied Classics in the UK. I then worked as a research historian with my main area of focus being archaeological sites such as Ancient Messene, which is about an hour from the residence.
When I decided to have a family, I turned to my family roots and built this guesthouse where my grandfather had originally bought the orange groves back in the 80's.
I aim to provide a warm and hospitable environment for families like mine, who wish to blend in with the area and it's people and share with them the history and heritage of the area.
DESPOINA purchased this lodge in 1981
Laconia and the mountain of Taygetus is a most inspiring site. Wheather one wishes to explore the rich history of Mystras, walk along the river or take a hiking tour in the mountains, this spot offers it all.
It is also quite close to the sea ( about 110 kms) but also enjoys it's privacy in the summer, when many tourists visit the coast and it is overidden with noise and clatter.
The city of Sparta is a small city of 200.000 inhabitants and is situated in the heart of the Peloponnese. They pride themselves on their rich past and worth exploring as well.
I like to sit down with my guets, over a glass of a wine in the evening and share our stories and our travels. As an avid traveller, I am interested in unique places and its people.
