Camp Rascal - A Rustic Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

I considered over forty properties for our trip this year to Lake Tahoe, and settled on this great little cabin. Just looking on VRBO, the selling points were the owner's photographs, the proximity to the lake (though it is not a lake view property) and the relatively secluded neighborhood on the edge of a National Forest. Knowing that the cabin didn't have air conditioning, I thought the massive surrounding trees would help shade and cool the house during the day (they did). This is a great spot which our family really enjoyed very much. The original cabin is old, but has been expanded (apparently) and definitely upgraded. It isn't particularly luxurious, but it is cozy, cute and reasonably well furnished. Mostly, we enjoyed the covered front porch and the side yard which features a picnic table with tivoli lights and a pendant fixture, and an adjacent outdoor fireplace and grilling area with outdoor seating. There is fantastic stargazing up through the towering pines and cedars on and around the property. During daylight hours, you'll see a good many chipmunks and a rabbit or two running about. I would not have been surprised to see a bear or other exotic wildlife come ambling out of the adjacent forest, but we did not get that opportunity. The cabin was clean, well appointed and decorated in a personal way, that I assume reflects the personality of the owner and their family. And speaking of the owner, Angela was very accommodating, helpful and responsive to any and all queries. For our first visit to Lake Tahoe, I don't think we could have selected a better property at this price point, nor a more convenient and quiet neighborhood to rest and relax after our adventures each day. I'd definitely like to return for another visit, perhaps in the winter next time! Thanks again for a great stay and helping to make our trip this year so memorable.

Comfortable and cozy getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying at this cabin. We enjoyed that it was super clean but still had Tahoe charm! I almost don't want to write a good review because I don't want others to know about this little hidden gem!

Well-equipped, cozy cabin in the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay! This cabin has been nicely updated while maintaining its historic charm -- the pictures don't do it justice. It was equipped with everything we could possibly want -- comfy beds and linens, well-stocked kitchen where we cooked many meals, outdoor grill, good heater and appliances, immediate hot water and good water pressure, games and movies, etc. It was even decorated for Christmas! And the location is just perfect -- walking distance from the lake and Homewood ski resort, but tucked away in the trees with nice country to snowshoe with the dogs right in the backyard. We will be back!

Charming, cozy cabin-some details needs follow up

  • 3 of 5

The cabin itself was very accommodating and it matched the description given on VRBO. I would make a recommendation to the owners to put the address numbers on the house as it was difficult to find. Upon our arrival at 6PM however, the housekeeping service had not done their service. We were able to contact the owner who told us to leave for an hour to get dinner and the place would be taken care of. We had to make a follow up call to the owner to confirm that the place had been cleaned before we returned. (It would have been nice for them to call us to let us know it was ready. They also mentioned we could leave our luggage in the cabin (while we left for the cleaning service) and things would be fine. We chose to take our luggage, however, left a pair of shoes which ended up being locked up by the housekeeping service and it took the better part of the next day to get an answer as to where the shoes were. The owners gave us a partial refund for the cleaning for the inconvenience. The inconvenience was very unfortunate. I would make a recommendation for the owners to be more in touch and up to speed with the housekeeping staff for better follow through.

It's all in the details!

This adorable cabin was just perfect for our Labor Day weekend getaway! We really appreciated all of the modern updates and stylish details in this cabin. Just two blocks from the lake, I can't believe we scored this last minute! We were two couples, two dogs, and a baby and were very comfortable here. It only took about 10 minutes to babyproof everything and the dogs had a blast running around the spacious lot. Shout out to the nice family who lives in the cabin next door. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming of our brood. Angela, the host was very responsive and thorough.
