The rear of La Maison Verte backs on to the garden of La Maison Jaune but has no windows overlooking that house. Similalry, La Maison Verte is not overlooked at all. Both houses are detached and have separate entrances from the road, their own gardens and parking areas so enjoy complete privacy, but can one can be accessed from the other easily through a gate if a larger party wants to rent both houses. Both houses have their own access to the 5 acre field.

Bury St Edmunds

Very rustic French, with all amenities within 10 mins drive.

  • 4 of 5

Both properties were clean, with very comfortable beds. The setting was just wonderful, with a great field to walk the dog and views of the surrounding countryside. The teenagers were ecstatic with the fast, reliable wifi!

The nearby bar was incredibly welcoming and the locals fussed over our dog and made us feel most at home.

Hesdin was a quaint town to visit, and had enough supermarkets and shops to more than facilitate any needs. The nearby beaches of Berck and Fort Mahon were fabulous (even in December)!

Gareth, the owner ensured everything ran smoothly, by organising our vets appointment for our dogs required worming tablet and answering emails swiftly.

The only reason for the 4 and not 5 star review, was the size of the fridges in both properties, which we felt limited our shopping, as an under counter fridge in each property, really can't hold enough for the occupancy size of the houses. It was not too bad for us, as it was December and we could keep drinks cool outside, but in summer months, we feel it would be even more limiting.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for a traditional taste of France, this really is the place to book. We will certainly be returning.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very positive comments. We are planning to refurbish the kitchen in La Maison Jaune in early 2016 so we will take your comments about the fridge in to account.

Overall a very nice well equipped property

  • 4 of 5

This was a very good short break despite the weather!

The house is very spacious and it is well situated for a quite break.

I cannot think of any other equipment that we could have needed, even egg cups.

The fire was fantastic and there were plenty of logs.

All in all a very nice ,relaxing break, well recommended.

A charming property in tranquil countryside

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house with plenty of space, private gardens and views out across the valley. A great range of books films and toys are on hand to keep children happy if needed. The property was clean and well maintained and the information pack was second to none containing a wealth of information about the area. The house sits in a very pretty and peaceful part of France with good access to the coast for days out and the town of hesdin is not too far away for all provisions. We have stayed twice and will return again as there is still much to see!

Nice, well equipped house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house with our friends. They arrived before us and sent me a text saying the bathroom arrangements were 'interesting'. When we arrived we realised that to get to either of the 2 bathrooms you had to walk through a bedroom. After deciding this was to be our bedroom we realised that this was not a major problem. A large screen had been provided.

We found the house very well equipped and the wi-fi was a bonus. We were all enchanted by a family of hedgehogs that lived in the garden. The house is well situated and the owners gave excellent direction for places to visit. The local bar was also great. The owner and locals were friendly and we had a fantastic meal on the last night. I would recommend this house to anyone wishing for a relaxing holiday.

Comfortable, full of character, private.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely property, very comfortable with lots and lots of character. The outdoor space is lovely and private, with the use of garden furniture and a big field to play in.The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the people are very friendly, specially the people at the local cafe, even though we don't speak any French. Surprisingly cheap to live there for a week. A great base from which to visit the battlefields at Crecy and Agincourt and also the beautiful beaches. Also not too far out for a visit to Paris. In fact all of the things we wanted to do. The owner is remarkably helpful via e mail on everything from directions to which days to put the bins out. All round a great holiday.
