Lake Front Cottage On Jewell Lake, 2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 7
About Ken Kosal
Hi, I am Ken, and with my wife Michelle, we are offering this cabin for rent. We live in South Lyon and are 'up north' most weekends (we have a cabin across the lake from this rental). We have 2 college age boys and 2 English Setters.
Ken Kosal purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Ken Kosal chose Barton City
Michelle and I purchased this cabin in the fall of 2013 to 'keep it in the family'. We built a cabin on the other side of the lake in 2000, however from the time I was a baby I was coming up to this 'side of the lake'. This cabin is next to other family members and was very important to us to keep it in the family. I have 2 boys that will eventually end up with this place. In the interim we have chosen to rent this so others can enjoy the area/cabin/lake as I have for 50yrs.
What makes this Cabin unique
This is a very family friendly location. Lots of room to enjoy the outdoors with the large lot, fire pit, deck, lakeside bench. There is a hiking trail around the lake, accessible from the end of the road, as well as Reid Lake nature area 3miles away. The 'ball diamond' is located in the park 1 block away with 'old fashion' playground equipment, a basketball court, horseshoe pits and is the 'center' of the Biggest 4th in the North.
Dogs allowed with owner approval, sorry no cats
Large lawn area for kids to play
Minimum age of primary renter:21

We stayed here for three weeks in September.
The veiw of the lake was very nice, especially the two seater swing with water view. The area is very quiet. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and well supplied.
The only drawback was having only 3 tv channels, but the owner mentioned they were hoping to get cable in the near future when it became available in the area. In the meantime there was a large selection of DVD's.
We went to the resturant in town (a block away) for their Friday night fish fry, which was quite good. People in the town were friendly.
Kay, it was a pleasure hosting you for the month. I am glad you were able to enjoy the sunsets from the cedar swing by the lake. The sunsets get more and more spectacular in the fall. I am glad you were able to enjoy the fireplace on a few chilly evenings and the camaraderie of the locals at the restaurant/bar fish fry! It truly is a slice of Americans!
We look forward to hosting you in the future.

The cabin was nice and clean. We had some trouble with the lock on the door. And on what would’ve been our last night - we left a day early- we couldn’t get the fireplace to work, my husband discovered a notice of some kind, saying we needed prior approval to use it!! It was cold and pouring rain. He tried to get some heat by turning up the thermostat but nothing happened.
As far as accommodating 7 people, the pull out sofa isn’t fit for any person to sleep on. I would say 5 at most could be comfortable.
People on both sides in cabins of their own use the property to go between cabins. Some swearing and yelling our last night there was awkward.
The fire pit sits near the water, and the whole beach is on a slant- slight hill.
The cabin is nice. And it was clean. And fully equipped, we really had everything we needed and more in the cabin, except heat!
Glad you had a good time at the Knotty Pine Retreat. There is electric heat to use on those late summer days that turn chilly, the furnace is on in early spring and fall. Thanks for the comment, I will be sure to turn it on in mid August vs September. The sand by the lake and fire pit is enjoyed by the kids that stay, usually there are a few sand castles left from guests! We look forward to hosting you in the future.

Loved the Knotty Pine Retreat!
Absolutely loved the Knotty Pine Retreat. Had that “Up North” get away from it all atmosphere! Very clean and roomy. The Welcome Basket was a nice touch- made you feel special. We rent a lot of cottages/cabins during the Summer. This is definitely in the top 3! Loved the cabin, loved the serene atmosphere, loved the lake and loved the friendliness of the locals! Our kind of place! Many memories were made! Thanks for making our vacation a relaxing one!
As many of our guests comment, the "get away from it all" atmosphere prevails at the Knotty Pine. The ability to interact with "locals" is there if you desire, and yes, they are very welcoming! I am glad you were able to thoroughly enjoy the Knotty Pine Retreat, Michelle and I look forward to hosting you guys again.
Very nice vacation
We had a great time at The Knotty Pine Retreat. I loved the feel of the cabin. I was worried about there not being air conditioning, but with all the windows open and the fans going it felt nice. I slept SO good there. Very large backyard that led right to the lake. We enjoyed the dock and the sandy area. Floated in the lake in our inner tubes, and took the row boat out a few times. Husband caught some fish and fried them. Delicious. Tv had 3 channels, but there were lots of dvds to watch. They had basically everything we needed, we only had to buy food. We grilled almost every night. I do want to mention that the top step at the side door entrance seems a bit small, I tripped. Just watch yourself going down the set of 3 stairs there. Some (not sure how many exactly) of the surrounding homes are relatives of the owner. Definitely the houses to our left and right were owner related. The one thing that wasn’t so enjoyable was that because of this, the relatives/neighbors would walk through the backyard of the rental to get to each other’s houses. We would be in the backyard with our dogs (who were attached to leashes) and they would bark. One neighbor commented about how the dogs made noise. Not sure if he was being sarcastic or not, but when people are in the backyard I’m not surprised the dogs barked. And we would have to pause our yard games to let them walk by. It’s not like it ruined our vacation or anything because it definitely did not, just would have been nice if that didn’t happen. All in all, we had a great vacation, and would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation on the lake. And we really appreciate being able to bring our dogs with us. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Glad you guys had a great time. You have found what others have, the breeze off the lake "flows" thru the cabin to keep it cool in the hot summer months. As you mentioned the large yard is conducive to "yard games", many of which come with the cabin. We look forward to hosting you in the future.
