XXL Villa Entire Floor, Near Vienna, A1 Reviews, Baden bei Wien, Austria.

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,550 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Sleeps up to six + 1 in 3 double bedrooms. Spacious luxury bathroom.

Baden bei Wien, is just 25 mins from Vienna by half-hourly train service.

We welcome single travellers and groups alike (but strictly no rowdy parties).

White Villa offers spacious, high-ceilinged and newly re-furbished top class self-catering boutique accommodation aimed to provide your every comfort and convenience with newly installed 42" HD "Smart" TV with free English/US stations as well as Netflix etc and of course all the local stations too.

Situated in this fascinating thermal spa town with great summers, and very cosy winters, surprises include a glamorous casino, over three thermally heated luxury swimming baths, a huge choice of outdoor and indoor restaurants and wine taverns (with food), invigorating walks on well-maintained pathways, either high in the forested hills or down on the valley floors (directly from the front door).

Around 40 minutes drive away is a UNESCO world heritage site in the form of one of Europe's biggest and most unusual 'plain lake' (Steppensee) being entirely spring fed and therefore having a fascinating feel to it.

Many small resorts line this lake's shoreline including a large outdoor water theatre and a notable outdoor classical music sound stage built in the cliffs of a vast Roman settlement.

The apartment itself occupies the main part of an architect-designed 1960s luxury villa, and spans the entire ground floor which extends over the integral garages due to its split-level layout. The rooms are very large and comprise three double bedrooms, spacious kitchen-dining room, XXL sitting room with grand piano plus flat screen TV and a luxury bath/shower room.

With the only other apartment in the building being situated above on the the attic level, guests can be assured that thick concrete floors separate the two residences meaning ambient sound cannot pass through.

The property, like most properties of the region, is built with one foot thick walls meaning the house stays cool in summer and cosy warm in winter.

The accommodation is laid out as follows:

+ Completely private entrance from outside

+ Large farmhouse style kitchen / dining room with French windows onto twenty foot fully furnished breakfast verandah

+ Ultra-large living room with grand piano and log burning stove

+ Master bedroom with glazed french door onto twenty-foot covered verandah

+ Family bathroom / shower room

+ Two further double bedrooms (twin at request)

+ Spacious inner hall / further sitting area

+ Sauna available for bookings (complete with power shower and drying area

Complimentary welcome pack:

+ Breakfast cereals and muesli

+ Various provisions including tea, coffee, milk (high and low fat).

+ Bottle of local wine

+ Mineral Water (although cold-tap water is drinking water).

Option to order box of provisions (vegetarian option) including fresh meat, veg, pasta, fruit, bread for first evening meal after a long journey. Price €25.

For those who enjoy outdoor living, Baden has a lot to offer. From miles of riverside cycle paths along the Helenental valley floor to steep walks from the doorstep through scented pine forests to ancient castles and ruins, there's no shortage of eye-opening things to do. + Vienna Central Station around 23 mins (train)

+ Neusiedlersee lake and resorts 40 mins (car)

The Neusiedlersee is a UNESCO World Heritage site and acclaimed as an unusual and fascinating phenomenon. Having one of the largest surface areas in Europe, it is popular for yachting, wind-surfing and family visits to the small resorts around its shores to cool off on hot summer days. There are several leisure parks for children as well as ancient towns where stalks arrive in springtime from Africa and inhabit big nests atop the village chimney stacks.

The area has a special feel to it and the standard of food, wine and other beverage is second to none with the county's wines having a unique and distinctive purity and having won awards the world over. With a large ancient Roman settlement in the hills overlooking the panorama of the lake on the approach from Eisenstadt this region has attracted visitors for over 20 centuries.

+ Skiing at the Semmering Mountain range (until March) 60 mins (car) 90 mins (train)

+ Snow mountain (Schneeberg) with cable cars all year round 60 mins by car.

+ Heiligenkreutz Monastery, home of the world famous Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz who oddly in 2008 released the million selling 'Chant: Music for the Soul' (Universal Records) which brought them world notoriety and a perhaps unexpected financial windfall. This is 15 minutes from White Villa by car.

+ Vienna Airport 60 minutes by train 40 minutes by car

Within walking distance of the town of Baden lies the start of the Sooss wine-producing region, an absolute mecca for not only wine lovers, but lovers of great social evenings full of chat, humour and good food. Sooss village is in the heart of the vineyards, consisting of around 40 individual wine outlets which serve their own wine together with a broad choice of home produced hot and cold food, direct to the public at wholesale prices.

Nick Dobson, independent wine expert and founder of Wines of the World writes about Austria:

'Austria is quite simply one of the most fascinating wine producing countries in Europe today. Steeped in culture and history, it has a wine growing heritage stretching back over three millennia. Austria produces some of the best wines in the world, of unparalleled quality, from grape varieties not grown elsewhere. Yet remarkably, her wines remain relatively unknown and under-represented in the UK.'

Note: The apartment lies approximately 15 minutes walk downhill to Baden town centre. To avoid an uphill walk back, a taxi or rental car is recommended. There are plenty of taxi ranks in the town centre and the short journey costs around £3-£4.

About Julia Corkhill-Goettlicher and Peter Corkhill

We are an English/Austrian couple with a special interest in hospitality. Having spent years travelling and staying in hotels and self-catering accommodation, we used our varied experiences to devise a list of what we personally look for in a home-away-from-home. We hated anywhere with any signs of dirt, or poor service, we loved places with attention do detail, spotless presentation, high standards and special touches.

Julia Corkhill-Goettlicher and Peter Corkhill purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Julia Corkhill-Goettlicher and Peter Corkhill chose Baden bei Wien

Agréable séjour

  • 4 of 5

Baden is a spa town with many thermal swimming pools and wellness centres both indoor and outdoor. Nearest ski resort is 40 miles.

Baden itself is in the heart of a prolific wine growing region with wine outlets open 'til late. There are miles of wooded hills and valleys to explore with old castles and cycling paths, as well as a lavish international casino and theatre. In the ball season, there are many fairytale dances in opulent surroundings and throughout December is the Christmas markets with hot punch and mulled wine served in the parks and pedestrian walkways. There are many traditional cosy cafes to choose from and the city of Vienna is just three train stops away or 30 minutes. Trains run every 15 minutes with two fast ones per hour.

The apartment is on an exclusive residential hill therefore an uphill walk will be required to return from the town on foot. A taxi to or from the town centre if required costs around €4-€5.
