I work in the healthcare profession for over 27 years. I fell in love with Kauai in 2005. Slowly I have been trying to create a life in Kauai, by having a small slice of paradise gives me great excuses to visit more often and take time out of my busy life. This property is very new to being privately managed. I just remodeled the entire unit. so everything is new and fresh.

From the very first seconds we felt in love with Mary's place, it was for sure what was described and even better, the view is out of this world, we never thought it was going to be that beautiful, imaging having the ocean right next to you when you sleep... very very very special. We cooked almost every day since it has a complete kitchen, anything you need for cooking or baking is here. There was snorkeling gear, binoculars, music, cable TV, the bed (wow fantastic and very comfortable). The location of the place is perfect because it has a mini-private beach and it is nearby many places for groceries shopping and souvenirs. A couple of friends that stayed at the Marriot Hotel told us, after visiting us for a day, that next time they will definitely choose this place for their stay. And the place was very clean and organized perfectly. Regarding Mary, she responds very quickly to any phone calls, and she addresses any questions or concerns in the same call, so that was very assuring for us which made us feel we are in good hands and under a very serious person in charge. Thanks Mary, it was an honor to spend those 8 days at your place, and we will come back again, and again, and again. Loved it! 5+ stars!
Response from Mary:
Aloha Gustavo, It was a complete pleasure having you stay at this amazing ocean gem. We are looking forward to your return Mahalo Mary
Our stay at Kapaa Sands was wonderful. The condo was spotless, and all of the amenities were available. There were beach chairs and snorkel gear, so you don't have to be overcharged at Snorkel Bob's. The view from the deck is unsurpassed. The beach is right off the deck, with good swimming and fair snorkeling. Watching the locals fish the surf was delightful. Gorgeous sunrises!! The convenience to destinations either north or south on the island was a definite factor in our choice of Kapaa Sands. we couldn't be more pleased. We will be back to Kauai, and we will stay again at Kapaa Sands.
We stayed here the first 5 days of our Kauai honeymoon and loved it! It's perfectly cozy and a great size for two people, especially one's used to small spaces or a NYC apartment. The balcony and the ocean view is amazing and the waves are loud yet soothing. I never thought we'd be able to stay so close to the ocean for that price! It was such a wonderful spot to stay and relax at. We loved that we could cook our own breakfast and eat it on the patio with that view! We drove all over the island to different beaches and some of our tours. Staying at the condo forced us to get up and out during the morning/afternoon and really explore Kauai, which we loved. Then we would come back late afternoon and relax before dinner. Once we were at the bigger hotel resorts we stayed on their grounds and didn't leave much. The ocean gem was a very easy stay and a place we would definitely recommend! We would love to come back!
We traveled all over Kauai and concluded that our spot at Ocean Gem 5 was absolutely ideal. We saw whales from our balcony, a monk seal slept on the shore for a half day and 5 sea turtles swam just feet away from the beach. There is a natural tide pool that is great for wading and seems like a secret spot for locals, but there were never more than a few people there.
The condo is furnished beautifully in a beach style, freshly painted, and stocked with everything you would need. The bed is extremely comfortable, large lanai and beach chairs provided. Access to the complex's pool is an added bonus. Most residents are older couples therefore it is quiet and a true escape from noise pollution. Although the address says Kapaa the unit is actually in Wailua, which means you are not in the middle of the busier Kapaa shops (but can get there in a matter of minutes). Also you are equidistant from the north shore and the Waimea Canyon, about 1-1 ½ hrs. each way, this for us was ideal because we did those drives several times each on our explorations. Those staying in Poipu or Hanalei have a much longer drive to either. Just across the street are two bakeries, a Mexican restaurant voted best on the island, and Street Burger which is fantastic. About 5-7 minutes down the road is Longs Drugs and Safeway.
Overall we were extremely impressed with the cleanliness, accommodations, responsiveness of the owners and location. My wife and I highly recommend this unit and look forward to staying there again. Mahalo!
Location, location, location. This is an outstanding setting and every convenience has been thought of and provided for your stay. The grounds are well maintained as well. The bathroom is SMALL (it is what it is as nothing can be done about it) but if you are a big person there were would be some concerns.
Another thing we liked was the "ambiance" of the entire complex...not one of those huge resorts with people all around. There are several good restaurants in walking distance ...especially Monico's Mexican (great food, well presented and super service). We would highly recommend Ocean Gem to friends/family (in fact we already have) and look forward to returning.
The condo was absolutely perfect, especially for a couple. Modern, clean, and with all of the amenities (snorkel gear, towels, kitchen appliances) one would ever need on a trip to Kauai. We woke up to incredible sunrise views, had some wine overlooking the sunset, and went to sleep to the sound of crashing waves. When leaving, we were already discussing when we could come back to this gem. I'll also add that the location is perfect to getting around the island and exploring all facets of it, so for first-timers like us, it was absolutely ideal. Mary was also the most gracious host, offering up suggestions for activities, restaurants and beaches around the area. Thank you again!
Nothing but good news here--my partner and I have exprienced lots of accommodations in our 17 years of travel together---this place was A+ for what matters to us. Clean, completely furnished, wonderful view, fairly priced for a wonderful oceanside setting. Walking distance to shops and restaurants ( not our biggest need but certainly handy). Snorkeling literally right outside the front door. Handy drive to more restaurants and the hiking and beaches of the island. Well equipped kitchen and bathroom--just simply --nice. The second floor was great--kids now and then down below were not a problem for us. The owners could make it easier to find by referencing that there is a sign:"Kapa'a Sands" at the entrance to our parking lot. Without question we would return to this condo.
East Coast of Kauai, centrally located to access both the south and north shores. Near the mouth of the Wailua River, easy access to Kayaking, hiking, snorkeling and paddle boarding. This is the begining of the beautiful bike path that snugs the coast line for miles.
