Garden Caravan: Tiny House On Wheels. 2 Miles To Town & Lake, Fun Place To Stay

Bedrooms 1
Space 200 sq. ft.
Property type studio
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 bed, 1 bath, sleeps 2. Garden Caravan - Tiny House on Wheels

Enjoy your stay in this unique handmade gypsy-style caravan in a beautiful garden setting. You have all the comforts and amenities of a well appointed studio apartment, yet the feeling of being on a new exciting adventure. This Tiny House on wheels is parked in a lush corner of our 5 acres, with a view of the pond and your own private grassy sitting area. Watch the ducks and herons splash in the water while you enjoy the morning sun, then drive or bike 2 short miles into Sandpoint for great shopping, restaurants, music, entertainment, or a day at the lake.

The 10' X 20' Garden Caravan has been a labor of love. Built with many recycled materials, and adorned with touches of arts and crafts, it is also built sturdy and strong (with a hint of the maritime theme) by an experienced boat builder. The queen sized bed sits in little nook, but the rest of the open floor plan is full of windows and skylights to make it feel big and bright.

Complete with RV type appliances (gas stove, small refrigerator, water saver marine toilet, shower, and electric heat/hot water) it is very comfortable, just on a small scale. Try out the concept of 'compact living' in this cozy space with everything you need, and an abundance of nature just outside your door to give you the feel of space and freedom.

Your hosts live in a house on the same property and may be seen tending to the nearby berry bushes, flower gardens, and vegetable patch. We are available to help in any way you may need, and provide information on the area and all the great recreational opportunities in our town, mountains, or lake. If privacy is what you want, the Garden Caravan is tucked away in it's own peaceful world, but if you need anything, your hosts are right there to assist. If you are here during the growing season you may be offered a bowl of fresh berries for your breakfast, or some bounty from the garden for your evening meal. Laundry is available on request, and limited (slow) wifi internet is provided.

We have plenty of secure off street parking in front of our house, but you will need to walk 150 feet or so across the grass to get to the Garden Caravan. We live an a rural, friendly neighborhood that is very safe and accommodating. And while the gypsy-type wagon has all the comforts of home, it is a self contained RV and so water use is limited (10 gallon hot water tank for a nice hot short shower).

Treat yourself to something different this vacation!

About Amy Hanson

My husband Glenn and I have lived in the small resort town of Sandpoint in North Idaho for the last 23 years. We recently sold our business of 15 years where we manufactured solar panel mounting systems for the renewable energy industry. Now we have a bit more time to travel and enjoy staying in other VRBOs in new. In the summer we stay close to home as we tend our vegetable garden and host exchange students, or members of World Wide Opportunities On Organic Farms (WWOOF). We love the concept of people sharing who they are and what they have with others, and incorporating more of the 'personal touch' in an increasingly impersonal world.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We really enjoyed our stay in the tiny house. Though small, it was thoughtfully and efficiently laid out and had everything we needed. The bed and sleeping area were very comfortable, even for my husband who is 6 foot 3". It was well ventilated and the cool nights made for great sleep. We were able to cook simple meals easily. The location is great - both peaceful and quiet yet close to downtown Sandpoint. The pond is just steps away and a perfect place for quiet reflection and wildlife viewing. We even saw moose on the property during our stay! Our hosts were friendly and made us feel welcome. We would definitely stay there again."

Everything was perfect for a mini getaway. Very close to downtown Sandpoint in a beautiful setting. Everything inside the tiny house is clean and modern, and it is very comfortable and well laid-out. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay. Thank you, Amy!

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying here. It is a fantastic get away. We didn't even make it in the door when we saw 2 moose. Second day saw 3 deer. Perfect place to just relax, read and rest. Very private setting, close to town and great price. Host are very helpful. We plan to go back for a third time.

A Sandpoint Sanctuary!

  • 5 of 5

After a busy week in Portland the Garden Caravan was exactly what we needed to end our last holiday of the summer. What a delightful surprise when we walked in - every square inch of space has been utilized to the fullest. It has been built and decorated beautifully with retaining an atmosphere of cosiness and comfort. Loved the window seat with all the cushions and the view out to the pond where we watched a blue heron fishing. Amy had put the lights on for us as we were a late arrival and had the heat on to ensure it was warm. She also provided us with lots of suggestions for eating, biking and attractions in and around the area which we greatly appreciated. Extremely clean and one of the most unique accommodations we have ever stayed at. Lovely and thoughtful extras such as a bottle of wine, candies, coffee and best of all fresh cream for the coffee! Will definitely plan another stay and for longer than the two days we had this time.

Very cozy location

  • 5 of 5

Great little home and friendly owners. Would have enjoyed a little more privacy (curtains near the window seat), but would easily stay again if they changed nothing.

Owner's Response: We are glad you had a good visit. You are the first people to suggest curtains on the bay window. Since that window looks out on the pond and the woods with no houses or roads or anyone to look in, most folks have liked the feelig of being out in nature in a very private place. But we will take your suggestion to heart and see what we can come up with for shades with out shutting out the nice view. We hope you enjoyed the shades on all the other windows for your privacy. Hope to see you again in the future!

Sandpoint, Lake Pend Oreille, Schweitzer ski area, and the Selkirk Mountains have it all. We are located only a few minutes drive (or bike ride) from the small, bustling and charming town of Sandpoint which sits on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in the scenic mountains of Northern Idaho.

Sandpoint is a small resort town with lots of character. If you like diverse restaurants and shopping venues, there is plenty to keep you busy in our little town, or you can drive 45 minutes to Coeur d' Alene for even more excitement. Or if you are after music and culture, Sandpoint has so many live performers who are playing inside and out all through the summer.

If you enjoy biking, hiking, or lake sports, you can't do better then North Idaho. There are beaches right on the edge of town, or you can travel in any direction to find a remote, gorgeous spot for swimming, picnics, or a wilderness experience. We would be happy to give you recommendations based on 20+ years of living in and enjoying this area.
