We are both full-time artist living in the Southside Historical Neighborhood of Chattanooga, just blocks away from the Mitchell House. In 2007 we chose Chattanooga as our new home-base after having searched for property from San Diego to Asheville.
We fell in love with Chattanooga and it's central location. Once we heard of the redevelopment plans for the Southside area into an arts district we knew we had to move here. We purchased a metal industrial building on Main Street and created a wonderful artist live/work space. The space is perfect for us and allows is the room we need to create and flourish.
Peggy Petrey purchased this house in 2009
Initially we bought the home for our parents, however they only needed the downstairs unit. Since the property is located downtown where all the festivals, sports activities, art events and tourist attractions happen, it made total sense to open the upstairs for others to enjoy a home-like setting while visiting Chattanooga. The house is in a diverse neighborhood that has undergone many changes in the last ten years.
Our neighbors are all friends and welcoming to all. If you sit on the porch for a few moments don't be surprised if one of the neighbors introduce themselves to you, we're a friendly bunch.
We love staying in vacation rentals when we travel. Often times we the amenities are minimal and we find ourselves wishing we had a tv, the internet or a few board games to play. We wanted to provide a space that has everything you will need, making your stay that much more enjoyable. You'll find that we've tried to think of everything that you might need in case you decide to stay inside on a rainy day and if we haven't thought of everything we are open to suggestions!
We had such a wonderful time in Chattanooga. We decided to be adventurous for Thanksgiving and visit a brand new city. We are a family of four from suburban South Carolina. Our little ones (7 yr and 3 yr) loved walking around the community. There's so much to offer just one block away from the house on Main Street. We recommend breakfast at Niedlov's bakery. For our Thanksgiving meal we had reservations at Food Works (North Shore of Chattanoogna). Delicious! Great atmosphere. A few minute uber ride away. We didn't use our car at all for the 3 day stay. We walked downtown in the am and then usually übered home. So easy!
Loved the aquarium and just walking around town. It's so family friendly. Coolidge park, carousel ride, walking across the Walnut Bridge. On our last day we checked out of the house and drove 15 minutes to Rock City. Our only regret was not doing the evening Rock City tour that's decorated for the holidays. We could tell it is a sight to be seen.
Loved the house. Girls loved the twin beds room. So perfect. Our bed couldn't have been more comfortable. Peggy has everything you could need in the house - extra blankets, coffee pods, books/games for all ages. The decor is lovely especially the art pieces that are throughout the house. We had a question or two during our stay (grocery store recommendation) and Peggy answered her phone immediately and was there to help. Parking was easy and we felt very safe in the neighborhood. Lots of young professionals, hip older folks, families - just a cool mix of people. Everyone was friendly.
I almost gave it a perfect 5 star but if someone's looking for steps to the aquarium or park you might prefer a hotel closer to the North side of town. This was absolutely perfect for us and we would love to come back and stay at Peggy's again.
We had a great time visiting Chattanooga for the first time. The house is beautiful and absolutely immaculate. It had everything we needed including a well equipped kitchen. The Publix store is just across the bridge on the other side of the river. We cooked in a couple of times and found everything we needed in the kitchen including some spices, oil, paper towels, etc. The beds were comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet. The location was great too. We pretty much arrived and parked our car and either walked or took the Electric Shuttle to many of the places we visited. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance (really enjoyed the Bluegrass Grill for breakfast and Mean Mug for coffee and good food). There was plenty of room for the four of us to spread out when we wanted to and the living room furniture is comfortable so you can sit around and talk for awhile. The artwork is appealing and eye-catching. We also rode our mountain bikes at Raccoon Mountain and Enterprise South and both places are only a short drive from the house. We had a great time and would love to come back. Thanks.
We enjoyed our stay here this past Labor Day weekend. We had four adults and two children so the three-bedroom house was perfect for us. There was room for everyone and the house had everything we needed. The location was perfect - a 15 minute walk from the Sunday farmer's market, a five minute walk to the south station for the electric bus, and lots of restaurants nearby, so the only place we drove was to the mountains. Thanks for a great stay!
This property was amazing! It was impeccably clean and comfortable. There were so many nice little touches that made us feel right at home. Several great restaurants and the trolly were within walking distance so we didn't need to drive anywhere. We will be staying here again!
We loved the Mitchell house. It was decorated so cute and was very clean! The best VRBO we have stayed at by far. Great location too!
The house was wonderful! Very clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. We appreciated the restaurant suggestions. We tried Alleia (fine Italian), a little pricey but the food and service was great! I would definitely recommend this property.
