I grew up in Canyon, TX, where The Cottage is located. I have loved this house ever since a friend's family rented it a short time while we were in high school. I never dreamed that one day, I would own it and rent it as well! Our family bought it in 2006 and it became my home until last year when my husband and I got married. I couldn't bring myself to part with the house and so once again it has become a vacation rental. In the years I have had it, we have replaced the windows, gutted and remodeled the kitchen, scraped popcorn off of ceilings, and a 100 other things that have made it like it is today.
Amy Powell purchased this cottage in 2006
This property is so special because after having had it for several years, I have been able to really fine tune all the details of the house to make it very comfortable for guests. I've made it exactly how I would want to find a vacation rental with special touches, attention to detail and lots of fun amenities.
The Cottage has so many wonderful features. The front porch with a swing is a nice place to relax, while still seeing people go to and fro. The backyard has privacy, a hot tub, a gazebo covered patio, hammock, bikes, and outdoor games. Inside, you will find basic toiletries like you would in a hotel, robes, a Keurig coffee maker, a game closet, a DVD collection, cable, internet and plenty of space for making yourself right at home. It has cottage style decor, that might even give you a few ideas for your own home!
Beautiful cottage! I would definitely bring my family and friends back again!
Great cottage home, perfect location in Canyon and close to WTAMU. Perfect setting to relax and visit with our college student and friends. Very well appointed with everything we needed. Relaxed in back yard, enjoyed bike ride, had cookout, and enjoyed good company. This was a special treat to unwind in a "home" setting vs. hotel. It was everything we could ask for...almost too perfect to share as we hope to come back again and would hate to have trouble finding a free weekend once word gets out about this lovely home away from home.
What a wonderful stay! Amy was prompt and gracious in her communication and worked with us on accommodating our baby's schedule. The home is immaculately clean, cozy and comfortable. There are a lot of thoughtful details - information on the surrounding area (don't miss Palace Coffee!), guides for the electronics, bikes to ride, etc. We loved our time at the Cottage.
Let me just say that Five stars is simply not enough for The Cottage! It is a clean, peaceful, shaded, well-kept little place with easy access to everything in the Canyon, Texas, area. All the normal amenities are there, plus some. All the kitchen, bath and bedding materials were spotless, fresh and clean. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated and the beds were great. The kitchen, my favorite spot, was clean and easy to get around in. We ate in (and out on the Gazebo) several times because both were just that nice. The Cottage is tastefully decorated and I think that is reflective of the owner. All of my family immensely enjoyed our time there. The most relaxing place, we all thought, was the Gazebo in the backyard. Early mornings were quiet and made morning coffee that much better. Of course, the weather was in our favor and made for cool mornings and great evenings.
The owner and proprietor, Amy, is truly representative of a friendly, helpful and thoughtful West Texas local lady. She contacted me to make sure we arrived safe, all of The Cottage was working and if we needed anything to call her up. We had no issues. She asked what we were going to do in the area and assured us we had picked the right things to do. Very nice person!
The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is a huge place stuffed with all manner of cool things to see and do. We were told three to four hours to see it and that is right. So much Texas history. We went to the Palo Duro Riding Stables and took a trail ride down into Palo Duro Canyon. That was great! We acted youngish (we are not) and rode the ziplines at the PDC Adventure Park. And, lastly, we attended the outstanding Texas Show down in the canyon, a must see. If you are in the area, do any and all of these things. You will not be disappointed.
Finally, if you are traveling around the Panhandle-Plains of Texas and want a quiet, shady (always good in Texas) little place to stay, I would heartily recommend The Cottage and its wonderful owner, Amy. As close to home as we could get. As we were leaving, we sadly looked back and said "We will back..."!
Our family of 5 had a wonderful time at The Cottage. The owner added a lot of personal touches to make our stay as homey as possible. Great location. Thank you for sharing The Cottage with us.
There is a Tina Turner song that describes our experience with this home - "You're simply the Best!" As the song states "Better than anyone else, Better than all the rest!" From the moment we drove up (3 hours early) we knew we were HOME. We met Amy's Dad and he gave us great advice about the local area. This home has it all: location, charm, location, comfort, location....we loved the garden, the outside area, the two bedrooms, the kitchen...everything! Because of the location of this home, the 4th of July became the best that America could offer: Lion Club pancake breakfast in downtown Canyon, the 4th of July Parade down 4th street and of course the Texas Story in Palo Duro Canyon with incredable fireworks after the performance! We were planning on doing more activities but we loved being at this home and being together!
Thank you, Amy! Bess you and your growing family!
