Experience life in one of the largest, privately owned ecological reserves in Central America, teeming with wildlife and natural beauty.
This small, private boutique community has been designed using green building concepts, native fallen hardwoods and natural stone.
Casa Colina was designed and built by the developers of world renowned Morgan's Rock Eco Resort, boasts 16' vaultedceilings with large overhangs, providing shade from sun and rain showers.
Casa Colina is a 2 bedroom, 2 1/4 bathroom home boosting high ceilings, cool polished concrete floors, and a state of the art screen system that allows for fresh air to flow through the home constantly. Both large bedrooms contain beautiful stone, en-suite bathrooms, large storage spaces, and views of either the ocean or jungle. In keeping with our eco-consciousness, the piping hot water in both bathrooms is heated by the sun with our solar hot water system. Both bedrooms rooms are well appointed with fine linens, pillows and comfortable king size beds. No fighting for the master suite in this home
The homes ideal position on a ridge allows the cool breezes to flow through the house both day and night. Boundaries between indoors and outdoors blend when sliding walls open to a large patio with ocean and jungle views. Polished concrete floors keep the house cool, even in the heat of the day.
Enjoy a swim in a shared infinity edge pool overlooking the pacific and jungle terrain, just a short walk from your door step. Rinse off in the outdoor shower when you get back form the beach.
This home enjoys the benefits of secure private parking and 24 hour security in a locked, gated community. Cleaning and pool service is included, laundry machines in home for small additional fee.
This house is perfect for honeymooners, families of four, one or two couples looking for a get away in one of the worlds most beautiful locations, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Monkeys visit, sloths laze and at the right time of year and with a little bit of luck, humpback whales can be seen from the house as they are arriving in the warm waters of the Nicaraguan Pacific to nurse their young.
A four wheel drive high clearance vehicle is required and for accessing not only Casa Colina, but the majority of the beaches north and south of San Juan del Sur. We are located 12km from town on country dirt roads, and as the Balcones community is perched on a hill from the main road a 4 x 4 vehicle will make your stay much more enjoyable!
If reducing your imprint on the planet with a vacation that offers both seclusion and quiet, then Casa Colina is the place for you!
Bay Area HIgh Tech professional who travels a lot for work so I enjoy visiting different places and seeing how other people live. I have had a number of Vacation rental experiences in the past and I believe that when you spend so much time in a hotel for work, staying in a real home is so much nicer when on vacation. I like the comforts of a hotel with the convenience of a home where I can cook if I want to or get a snack at any time. The best of both worlds!! Staying in a home allows me to experience real life in a new place as I have to get out and shop like the locals do and that can be a whole new experience each and every time!
Fionan Burke/Laura Johnson purchased this villa in 2013
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. The house is beautiful and looks exactly as it does in the pictures. Architecturally it's very unique and modern, and the house itself is well stocked (including kitchen equipment, plush towels, soft bedding). We did plenty of cooking in the house. The entire house (including the bathrooms and showers) are an open floor plan (though there are some sliding doors you can use to close off the bedrooms from the rest of the house). We found it very spacious and refreshing. The house is among 10 or so others that have similar designs and are located throughout a rough hillside. The houses are far enough apart that there is privacy, though we were able to occasionally hear our neighbors if they were talking outside. You absolutely need a truck to reach the property, but it was useful to be able to drive around to various beaches in the area. The house itself is mostly screened-in, so you get a constant breeze flowing through (no AC) and can hear everything outside. It rained one night and it was very loud- nice but could get tiring after a few nights. We also heard howler monkeys at night, which sound like monsters, but in reality are very cute and interesting. We woke up one morning to find about a dozen of them hanging out in the trees nearby- definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We absolutely loved this house and would return. I recommend this for a unique and peaceful experience in Nicaragua.
Gabriella (Remax) was extremely helpful in coordinating our arrival and taking us to the property. She took us to a few markets to get some groceries on the way, and was accessible by email for any questions during our entire stay,. We felt very well accommodated.
Amazing house in a beautiful surrounding! It was a wonderful experience to wake up every morning with the sound of the birds, the spectacle of the sunrise on the sea, and the playful and curious monkeys watching you since the distance.
Also the attention of the owners and Balcones de Majagual's Crew is phenomenal.
Totally Nicaragua and San Juan del Sur are a piece of paradise on earth!
We couldn't possibly do this house justice in a review - it has to be seen to be believed. My husband and I stayed in February and had an incredible trip.
First, the house itself is gorgeous. It's well constructed and every detail has been attended too - hardwood and concrete construction, a beautiful open floor plan and screens that let the warm jungle breeze and the sounds of nature fill the house. The view is stunning - you can clearly see the water and we saw several exotic birds, monkeys, and lizards from our front porch.
The location is amazing - 5 minute drive down the hill through the jungle and you're at a pristine sandy beach, with Matilda's ready to serve you a beer or coffee. Short hikes around the beach take you to several other beaches, and have lots of lizards, crabs, and other creatures along the way.
The service provided by the rental team was outstanding - we were well taken care of before the trip, and when we arrived, Gabby was at the house to show us around and take us into town to give us the lay of the land. Gabby also arranges activities and rentals as needed for tenants so you don't have to worry about navigating all those things yourself. This level of service was so helpful and appreciated - things like this go a long way in keeping a vacation worry-free :)
Practical things: the house has a full kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals, linens and towels, comfortable beds and solar powered heated showers (and an outdoor shower!). We had everything we needed and more. You'll want to rent a 4x4 car as the house is at the top of a very steep hill, and it is about a 20-25 minute drive to get into SJDS.
We will certainly be back to visit this house again - it made for a perfect home base for an unforgettable trip.
This place is great! I stayed here with my boyfriend with a group of friends renting the next door houses at the beginning of January. We had a great time. The place itself is beautiful, clean, and very open to the outside. You really get the feeling that you're sleeping in the jungle. There is a lot of nearby beaches and activities that we went to/ did so a car rental is a must. We were one of the first people to rent the place so we did have an issue with our hot water. The owners were great and had people working on it the next day and even got some money back. I highly recommend staying here and will be going back for sure!
Watch turtles laying eggs on your beach from July till December. Whale and porpoise watching is a must! Daily visit from monkeys and birds, and if you are really lucky, a sloth!
