Why Kurt & Tammy Hubschneider chose Grawn

We fell in love with this property the first time we saw it. It is absolutely beautiful. Originally built in the 1930's, it has a charm all it's own. With the 350 ft. of Duck Lake frontage and the 500 ft. of peaceful Mason Creek bordering the edge of the property, it is truly unique.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage resort reminds you of times gone by, yet has all of today's comforts. 350 ft. of private frontage, water trampoline, raft, 2 docks, boats, swimming pool, basketball court, horseshoes, playground and recreation room. Just a great place to get away from it all.

Great Place For A Family!

“We had a great week at Brookside! Kurt and Tammy (owners) are great people! They made sure we had everything we needed/wanted to have a great time. We had a pool and hot tub in the front of our cottage and a lake and playground in the back of our cottage. I would recommend this place to everyone!”

Wonderful vacation

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is simple but clean and adequate for our needs. Two bedrooms (no linens provided, but the managers do inform you beforehand), large enough for our family of 6, including a pack and play we brought, one full bathroom (shower only) and a main room combining a kitchen, living area with a pull out couch. The real beauty of the place is its setting on a wonderful lake, not far from Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Despite the intermittent rain, we managed to enjoy time outside, on the lake (non-motorized water craft free for guest use). There is a nice playground and sandy beach area for the kids. We had a great bonfire dinner at night. The place was quiet and clean. The only thing that can be improved on is the communication with the manager. Maybe this was a one time glitch, but there was often a long time lag between leaving messages/texts and receiving a reply. As long as you have the right expectations (this is not a full service resort), you'll have a great time here. We hope to return in the future.

Beautiful area!

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at Brookside Cottages! This is a wonderful location near Interlochen, Sleeping Bear Dunes/Heritage Trail, Traverse City and so many other great places to visit. The cottage itself is cute and quaint with an updated bathroom. It was fun and convenient to have kayaks lakeside to paddle around in. The water trampoline was a hit with our 15 year old and her new-found friends staying at other Brookside cottages.

There is a nice sandy beach area, maintained daily, but the lake was a bit more weedy than we prefer. I hear there are plans to re-mediate this in the future.

Overall a wonderful, relaxing, comfortable and convenient spot to vacation in northern MI!

Quiet, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Very beautiful location, well maintained and friendly staff. My cabin was cozy and we wanted for nothing. I wish I had more days to stay. But I will be back.

Great family getaway on a peaceful lake

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four spent a week at Brookside Cottage and had a wonderful time. The cottage was clean and cozy - nothing fancy, but comfortable and well maintained. The lake is really nice; it's big, but there wasn't a lot of boat traffic, so it was calm. We took advantage of the kayaks (included) and rented a boat for a few days to do some fishing. Tons of fun catching perch and bass.

Kurt and Tammy (the owners) are super nice and were quick to address any questions or issues. Kurt has great ideas of things to do around the area too. The rec room has a pool table, ping pong table and TV if you need a break from the great outdoors. The pool and hot tub are OK - they are likely tough to keep clean with all the sand on the property, so we mostly steered clear from those.

We would definitely go back because of the beauty of the property (sunsets over Duck Lake are amazing) and the attentiveness of Kurt and Tammy. The kids and us had a great time!

Cozy, Clean and Well Equipped!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for one week and were both really impressed with our experience and the attentiveness of Kurt and Tammy during our stay. They made sure we were taken care of by answering questions before our arrival, and being available by phone or in person when we had questions about amenities or local attractions. The cottage was very cozy and well kept. We were impressed with how it came stocked with many essentials for glassware/dishes, baking, and utensils. We were planning on cooking most of our meals so this was a bonus to know we had everything we needed in the cottage.

We also enjoyed the benefit of having free amenities on site. The location was close enough to the attractions of Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes, but also felt far enough removed where we could enjoy relaxation and quiet by the lake.

We definitely will be returning in the future, and highly recommend this place!
