Happy Mentone! When you walk through the front door of Cool Breeze Cottage, you will see why we’ve been told it’s one of the best views in Mentone. In the summer and fall months, sit on the screened porch or double deck and enjoy the surrounding trees and thirty mile mountain brow views. In the winter, the view opens up to the valley below where you can see and hear the Chattanooga bound trains. No matter what the season, Cool Breeze Cottage has killer sunsets!!
On those chilly mountain days and evenings, enjoy the intimate coziness of the cottage’s rock fireplace with gas logs. If you choose to rough it, there is a rock fire pit out front in the garden.
Inside, Cool Breeze Cottage has charm galore with what we call “rustic luxury”. Have fun discovering all the interesting furnishings, watching three flat screen HD TV’s or using the wireless internet to connect with the outside world. A fully equipped kitchen makes staying at home a definite option; however, if you choose to venture out, the cottage is only steps away from Mentone restaurants, shopping and Brow Park.
It’s been said there’s something magical about Mentone. Once you visit, you will have to come back. We hope you’ll stay at Cool Breeze Cottage and experience our little piece of magic.
We are a family from Birmingham,Alabama. We have three sons and three dogs.
Teresa Stokes purchased this cottage in 2014
We have three boys, 21,19, and 17, so before we went the first time, the obvious questions were....”Do they have wifi?” and “What is there to do up there.” The answers were... “Yes” and “Nothing” because that sounds wonderful to me. Actually, we have found many activities to do together and our sons were just as excited as we were to make the cottage our own. We have hiked out to “Hippie Hole” as the locals used to call it, not accessible by car. There is a very large natural swimming hole with huge rocks and a ledge to jump off of if you are crazy enough, which my boys are. Take your dogs and let them swim with you! Just Google Hippie Hole Mentone and look at the Youtube videos, the Travel and Leisure site, and the Atlanta Outdoor site.
At Christmas time, we went about 30 minutes out in the country to a place called Orbix Hot Glass to blow our own Christmas ornaments. On the way there, I said that this was either going to be one of those things that I never live down and get reminded of every Christmas, or it was going to be one of those great memories that I can pat myself of the back for finding. Lucky for me, it was the latter! It was a great experience. Make sure you are there to watch one of the demonstrations.
Next we are going to check out the night skiing at Cloudmont. I think it is probably a good idea if I just watch at that one. There are several festivals throughout the year that you can find online, as the dates change each year. I never tire of browsing through the little shops in town and eating at Moonlight Bistro and The Wildflower Cafe. Lunch at Twiggs in Kamama is great and you can check out some of the local artists while you are there. One of my favorite places is Miracle Pottery. I am getting quite a collection! The Little River Canyon has numerous activities for the outdoors and the visitor center was very impressive.
This unique cottage has all the comforts of modern living with (3) HD Flat screen TV's, Wireless High Speed internet etc. , yet, offers a quiet retreat from the world if you so choose. Our pet loves the walks to Brow park and town, both within a stones throw from the cottage! As the saying goes, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
We were instantly impressed with Cool Breeze Cottage upon arrival. It is so much more than the website illustrates. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, easy walking distance to restaurants, all the amenities (technology!) to make guests comfortable, and such comfortable furnishings. This may be my new "go to" getaway spot. I hope to be back very soon.

This was the second time we've stayed at Cool Breeze Cottage. We had several days of beautiful weather and one day of storms. Even the stormy day was great - we had a storm cellar if we needed it, we watched the storm move past from the porch, had a nice fire in the fireplace, made a pot of chili and played a couple of games. Perfect day! The cottage is close to everything and stocked with anything you might need.
Very convenient location in the heart of Mentone. Owners are wonderful to work with and home is beautiful. And that view!!
Beautiful view from the deck, well appointed cabin. It was the perfect size for our family of four, have a king size bed and two twin size beds. The beds are all very comfortable. The view from the wonderful upper deck is unbelievable. My husband spent every morning and evening out there and we ate meals on the picnic table on warmer evenings. Would have given five stars if we had been allowed use of the washer/dryer in the basement (big deal for me and I really thought I set the filter for only homes with washer/dryer, but my mistake) and if the master bath had more than one temperature. It was governed down to just barely hotter than warm, which rendered it useless for us. I did use it once for a hot bath after a long day of hiking, but had to use a pitcher from the kitchen to add hot water from the sink. The other shower, however, was amazing. Also keep in mind that this cabin is around the corner from the antique/artisan shops and restaurants in Mentone, which is lovely, but the shops are only open Friday-Sunday, the opening times are a suggestion, not a rule, and the restaurants have different hours depending on the day, so check ahead of time. Breakfast at Kamama on Monday (the only day they are open for breakfast, lol) and lunches at the GreenLeaf grill and Wildflower Cafe are a must. We definitely hope to return one day!
Cool Breeze Cottage was everything the VRBO site said it was and more! Comfortable and cozy, complete with everything you need, outstanding view, and just a few blocks from shops and restaurants in Mentone. The decor and furnishings were so comfortable and with just the right amount of mountain charm. It really looked like a place you would live in and not like a souvenir shop. Marilyn and I could not have found a better place to spend our anniversary and after kicking around in Mentone, coming back to Cool Breeze Cottage felt like coming back home. Teresa your instructions were spot on and the directions led us right into the driveway. Also the information you had there about things to see and do in Mentone were certainly appreciated and put to good use.Thank you again for sharing this wonderful retreat with us. We really hope to return again.
As usual, Ken and I enjoyed our stay at Cool Breeze! It is so familiar to us as we've been a few times....the whole point of our visit is (a) the spectacular sunsets (each evening is different) and (b) the wonderful, friendly community in Mentone! We even ventured to Georgia for a little while and then had lunch at Tiger's in Valleyhead! Life is so much fuller in the mountains!
Thanks to the owners of Cool Breeze (Ron &Teresa) for opening their sweet cottage to us!
