Happy Mentone! When you walk through the front door of Cool Breeze Cottage, you will see why we’ve been told it’s one of the best views in Mentone. In the summer and fall months, sit on the screened porch or double deck and enjoy the surrounding trees and thirty mile mountain brow views. In the winter, the view opens up to the valley below where you can see and hear the Chattanooga bound trains. No matter what the season, Cool Breeze Cottage has killer sunsets!!
On those chilly mountain days and evenings, enjoy the intimate coziness of the cottage’s rock fireplace with gas logs. If you choose to rough it, there is a rock fire pit out front in the garden.
Inside, Cool Breeze Cottage has charm galore with what we call “rustic luxury”. Have fun discovering all the interesting furnishings, watching three flat screen HD TV’s or using the wireless internet to connect with the outside world. A fully equipped kitchen makes staying at home a definite option; however, if you choose to venture out, the cottage is only steps away from Mentone restaurants, shopping and Brow Park.
It’s been said there’s something magical about Mentone. Once you visit, you will have to come back. We hope you’ll stay at Cool Breeze Cottage and experience our little piece of magic.
We are a family from Birmingham,Alabama. We have three sons and three dogs.
Teresa Stokes purchased this cottage in 2014
We have three boys, 21,19, and 17, so before we went the first time, the obvious questions were....”Do they have wifi?” and “What is there to do up there.” The answers were... “Yes” and “Nothing” because that sounds wonderful to me. Actually, we have found many activities to do together and our sons were just as excited as we were to make the cottage our own. We have hiked out to “Hippie Hole” as the locals used to call it, not accessible by car. There is a very large natural swimming hole with huge rocks and a ledge to jump off of if you are crazy enough, which my boys are. Take your dogs and let them swim with you! Just Google Hippie Hole Mentone and look at the Youtube videos, the Travel and Leisure site, and the Atlanta Outdoor site.
At Christmas time, we went about 30 minutes out in the country to a place called Orbix Hot Glass to blow our own Christmas ornaments. On the way there, I said that this was either going to be one of those things that I never live down and get reminded of every Christmas, or it was going to be one of those great memories that I can pat myself of the back for finding. Lucky for me, it was the latter! It was a great experience. Make sure you are there to watch one of the demonstrations.
Next we are going to check out the night skiing at Cloudmont. I think it is probably a good idea if I just watch at that one. There are several festivals throughout the year that you can find online, as the dates change each year. I never tire of browsing through the little shops in town and eating at Moonlight Bistro and The Wildflower Cafe. Lunch at Twiggs in Kamama is great and you can check out some of the local artists while you are there. One of my favorite places is Miracle Pottery. I am getting quite a collection! The Little River Canyon has numerous activities for the outdoors and the visitor center was very impressive.
This unique cottage has all the comforts of modern living with (3) HD Flat screen TV's, Wireless High Speed internet etc. , yet, offers a quiet retreat from the world if you so choose. Our pet loves the walks to Brow park and town, both within a stones throw from the cottage! As the saying goes, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
We were instantly impressed with Cool Breeze Cottage upon arrival. It is so much more than the website illustrates. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, easy walking distance to restaurants, all the amenities (technology!) to make guests comfortable, and such comfortable furnishings. This may be my new "go to" getaway spot. I hope to be back very soon.

The cottage was immaculate, fully outfitted, and the view was outstanding. I visited De Soto park and Little River Canyon, (both a short drive away) and both were nearly empty despite the beautiful fall colors this time of year. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a little time in the mountains .
This is one of the best places I have stayed in Mentone over 40 years. The cottage is tastefully appointed and comfortable. It is relaxing and quiet, and has that authentic Mentone style which is getting harder and harder to find. The brow view is unbeatable! Watch the sunset right from the 4 wood Adirondack chairs from the back deck. A covered screened porch with swing, grill, and rockers is attached to the deck. This was a fantastic plus for confining our toddler. Glass doors open from the open living room/kitchen to the screened porch and deck. Bedding, linens, and pillows extremely comfortable and nice. 1 giant king size bed in master, 2 single beds in 2nd bedroom, and a sofa in living room give plenty of room to sleep. 2 full bathrooms, nicely updated, helped make our stay so relaxing and easy. Plenty of nice white towels and washcloths were provided, with more in the antique chest of drawers in large bathroom. Everything worked beautifully! Even WiFi, cable, 3 TVs, DVD players, plumbing, electrical, ice maker, stove, oven, microwave, and central heat and air. We did not have a chance to use large outdoor grill, nor outdoor fireplace in front of house, nor huge gorgeous stone fireplace in living room. Instructions for everything were left in a binder, clear and easy to follow. Host responsive. There were no issues or problems, so we only communicated briefly by email and text message. Everything very clean! Check in and out was a breeze, no hassle. We parked car and walked everywhere around Mentone. Loved that! Path beside driveway leads down to a lower deck with hammock. There is a storm cellar we did not go in. Really no negatives...just a couple things to note: There is no washer and dryer that we could find. This is not a big deal for a weekend of course. This is not a large house, which suited us perfectly. We had 3 adults and 1 child, so plenty of room. There were a couple of rolls of t.p. in each bathroom, but I suggest bringing some. Also bring a few kitchen trash bags. Be super careful backing out of carport and pebble driveway, as it would be very easy to bump car with large rocks placed as border along lovely curving driveway. Highly recommend! Hope we get to visit and stay here again someday!!
My family of 4 stayed at this cottage this past weekend and LOVED it. The cottage was tidy and clean upon arrival and the comfortable beds were very welcoming after the drive in. Everything from the wood floors that cracked as you walked, to the iron bed and antique pieces of furniture made it feel as though we had stepped back in time. The bathrooms were very updated though and the master bathroom was beautiful! There were so many things in the cottage that were very welcoming and made one feel at home. My kids (13 and 8) loved the musical instruments, board games, and 3 cable TVs (LOL). I loved the back porch with swing, grill and picnic tables. We grilled at the cottage 2 nights and had everything we needed in the kitchen. It was nice to be able to eat in and watch some SEC football! This was probably the best furnished place we have ever stayed at and we have stayed at a number of cabins listed on VRBO in the Pigeon Forge area. This was our first trip to Mentone, AL. The owners really have thought of almost anything you could need. There was even travel toothbrushes and toothpaste available which came in very handy as I had left my cosmetic bag at home containing mine. I did replace the toothbrush however with a new one after a quick trip to Wal-Mart in Ft. Payne. The cottage is a quick trip to Ft. Payne as well as the Little River Canyon. The only thing I missed was the hammock which was pictured, but wasn't there and not being able to use the fire pit due to the burn ban in Mentone. That of course, was beyond the control of the owners. I definitely hope to come back again and would recommend this cottage to anyone!
My wife and I stayed at Cool Breeze Cottage for our 40th anniversary and had a wonderful time. The cottage was clean and all of the amenities were provided. The views from the back deck are amazing and it is very convenient to historic Mentone with shopping and restaurants. It is also only a short drive to Desoto State Park where we enjoyed an invigorating hike on one of the beautiful mountain trails. We hope to visit Mentone and stay in Cool Breeze Cottage again soon.
The 'Cool Breeze Cottage' is the perfect getaway from home. This sweet cottage offered a clean and well maintained environment upon arrival with all the amenities of my own home such as hairdryer and plush towels, the kitchen was fully stocked lacking for nothing, the living room was stocked with games, books, movies, magazines and great instructions for all the electronics in the house. The fire pit and sitting area was so quaint with artistic touches to the fire pit along with other garden amenities throughout the garden. The view from the back porch overlooking the brow was breath taking all by itself, then you add the beauty of a cool breeze in the morning and an amazing sunset at night, we didn't want to leave. With all the wonderful personal touches and great art work throughout the house, I felt like I was home. I highly recommend this property to any one at any time of the year.
Spent Memorial Day weekend of 2016 here. The cabin is quaint and perfect. Has everything you would need. Great walking distance to downtown Mentone, and also very short walk (~5 minutes) to breathtaking views from the mountain top. Has an absolutely perfect view itself from the back porch, as well as from the lower porch with hammock swing. We highly recommend eating at both Wildflower Cafe as well as a short drive but nice 30 minute drive to Canyon Grille. Reservations highly suggested for each. Hope to return here for many weekends in the future.
