“Home Central” is a fully owner managed/maintained, spacious one bedroom apartment providing comfortable and modern accommodation (including free WiFi) for up to 4 guests in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Old Town.

This city centre (see our map “photo”) Edinburgh apartment occupies a quiet position, at the rear of a refurbished 19th Century Schoolhouse. Secure entry is through the substantial “Boys” door of the old School building, with an intercom providing additional security.

The apartment comprises an attractive, bright, open plan living room / dining area / kitchen. It's a comfortable living area with plenty of room to kick back and relax after a hard day out seeing the sights or attending a work event. The living room has a large chaise style sofa bed which pulls out very easily to form a good sized (6Ft 8') double bed .

There is a nice sized double bedroom which has a built in mirrored wardrobe with a shelf and hanging storage space for smaller items. The shower room, with toilet and wash hand basin, has been recently modernised. In the hallway there is a deep cupboard which can be used for stowing away suitcases or other luggage.

The modern kitchen is well provided with crockery, cutlery, glasses and kitchenware, a washer/dryer, integrated fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave as well as electrically wired heat & smoke detectors. In the immediate vicinity (1Min) there is a selection of shops, including a late night Tesco Metro (0600-2300). However, for those that prefer to dine out, cosmopolitan Edinburgh is renowned for its large selection of restaurants, with a variety of restaurants / pubs right on your doorstep.

Whenever possible, guests will be welcomed personally at the property for the handover of keys. As you would expect, crisp fresh linen, bath and hand towels are provided for guests. In addition, local information / literature, iPod docking station and a small selection of books, DVDs & board games have been provided for your perusal.

About Eleanor Paterson

Both my partner and I were born and brought up in Edinburgh and have spent most of our lives in this beautiful city. I previously worked for the Scottish Government, in roles ranging from Policy Development to briefing Ministers, while Campbell worked for various finance companies.

Since early 2013 we have been managing our own Holiday Let business and, thanks to repeat business & many positive reviews, now both do this on a full time basis. We have created very thorough welcome folders and email our guests’ apartment specific (4 page) brochures which have instructions on the various modes of transport to get to each apartment, as well as information (& a map) on nearby bars / restaurants / shops etc and links to things-to-do while in Edinburgh.

Quite simply, the best of what Edinburgh has to offer is right on your door step as the apartment is located in the heart of the City. The building, an attractive refurbished 19th century Schoolhouse, is located a 5min walk away from the approximate centre of the Royal Mile & as such is close to the dead centre of historic Edinburgh (see our map “photo”). In the immediate vicinity there are a collection of museums, high quality restaurants/pubs, Festival & “Fringe” venues as well as the Festival Theatre. Being so central, the apartment (has FREE WiFi) is easy to find be your arrival by train (Waverley Station), airport bus (there are stops nearby) or taxi.

What makes this apartment unique

Without a doubt the apartment’s central location, near the dead centre of historic Edinburgh & the City’s main tourist attractions, has been a major Holiday Let draw. The apartment, which is located at the back (quiet) of a historical building, has an established track record as a successful Holiday Let and has had numerous repeat visits, which I believe is a good sign! Within 1mins walk there are a number of grocery shops & nearby a large variety other pubs / restaurants, numerous bus stops (including an airport / tour bus stop) and just it’s 10mins walk from the main train station (Edinburgh Waverley). In short, this apartment is a great base to make the most of your visit to Edinburgh! The apartment is fully owner managed / maintained, meaning you’re assured of receiving a personalised service................. I speak English; however please note that over the years I have found Google Translate very effective for assisting with queries & handling bookings in other languages.

Great accommodation in central location

Centrally located flat within walking distance to the Royal mile and all things tourist related. The apartment was clean, spacious and fitted with everything we needed for our stay. The communication prior to arrival was excellent and we have no issues throughout our stay. Would recommend for groups, couples and singles.

Excellent Location, easy walk to to University of Edinburgh, the Royal mile and all of Old town.

Perfect location for visiting our daughter that is studying abroad at University of Edinburgh.

The flat was an easy walk to some great coffee shops, bakeries and a couple of great bars.

Elenor was ver thoughtful and stocked the place with bread, milk and some cookies butter and jam. She included a folder with lots of very helpful information.

The only reason that I didn't give it a 5 star rating is not Eleanor's fault. The water pressure in the shower is very low. (I know that I am spoiled with good water pressure...) but otherwise the flat was very clean, comfortable, and in a very convenient location.

Cozy place in Edinburgh

Eleanor accomodated our early arrival and explained the workings of the flat. Nice and quiet place close to restaurants, food stores and the Royal Mile. Full kitchen with a washing machine. She left us some provisions - coffee, milk, bread and jam.

Shower small but lots of hot water. Good selection of material on the sights of Edinburgh. Not too far from train station even if pulling large suitcases.

Would recommend Eleanor 'so place highly.

Great location

Nice cozy 1 bedroom apt. in a renovated old school building with a great location. In a neighborhood surrounded by University buildings but so close to the Royal Mile and all its attractions. Washer/dryer a real plus. Another nice touch is that Eleanor provides you with a list of restaurants and pubs in the area and highlights her favorites. We tried several of them and she was spot on! It made for a wonderful 3 day stay in the city.

Great location; easy walk to Edinburgh sites

Loved this apartment and would stay there again! It was very clean and well maintained, perfect for the 2 of us! It was close to restaurants and sites of Edinburgh, as well as the train station. We had an adequately stocked kitchen, and thank heaven for the washer/dryer combo! Eleanor provided us with much appreciated milk, bread, jam, and butter for the first couple of day's breakfasts. Watch out for the ice cream shop on the way back to the apartment...it becomes addictive!

GETTING TO THE FLAT:

Transport Links are excellent as the apartment is close to several main bus routes which access most areas of the city and beyond.

A) Bus/Airport: The No. 35 Lothian (airport) Bus stops on Chambers Street which is c.5 min walk from the apartment, costs £1.60 & takes c.1Hr. The (airport) Airlink 100 express reaches Waverley Bridge ( 1mile from flat) in c.30-40mins, depending on traffic. During the day this bus leaves every 10mins & costs £4.50

B) Taxis: Are widely available at the airport & cost around £25 (depending on traffic) to get to the flat. Alternatively try calling City Cabs (0131 228 1211) or Central Taxis (0131 229 2468)

C) Trains: Waverley Train Station is a 10min walk away. A taxi to/from Waverley will cost c.£5 to get to the apartment. [There is baggage storage at the train station]

D) Car: Nearby access to the city bypass & motorway networks is very useful. There are metered parking spaces outside, the 24Hr St Johns Hill NCP car park is c.5mins walk away & the Sheriffhall “Park & Ride” has free parking with a frequent £1.60 bus services to/from town

E) Tram: A quick 3 min walk from the airport will take you to the tram stop where you can buy tickets (£5.50 an adult). Trams run every 8-10mins and it will take c. 40mins to get to Princes Street. Alighting here you can then take a Lothian bus (3, 31, or 33) to the Festival Theatre and Drummond Street is just a 2 minute walk from here or you can walk from Princes Street which will take c. 20mins.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD:

1) Drummond Street: The apartment is very centrally located with all of Edinburgh's tourist attractions within easy reach. Ideally situated for the Festival Theatre (2 min walk), while Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyrood House, Holyrood Park / Arthur’s Seat, Dynamic Earth and the Scottish Parliament are all within 10-15 mins walk. To round off the major sites, the newly revamped National Museum of Scotland is just a 5 min walk away.

2) Edinburgh: The Old Town's cobbled streets, closes (alleyways) and historic Victorian / Georgian architecture make it visually stunning. The grandeur of the New Town, designer/boutique shopping on George Street and an immense choice of restaurants and bars make it a city to suit everyone's taste and budget!

3) The Festival city: Festivals are what Edinburgh does best, with something going on all year round. The high summer Military Tattoo & International and the Fringe are perhaps the best known, however to name but a few Edinburgh hosts the Science festival (April), Film Festival (June), Jazz & Blues Festival (July), Book Festival, Mela (August) and numerous gourmet food events.

4) Entertainment: Edinburgh has a throbbing night-life, is home to various jazz bars (5mins away), comedy clubs, while during the summer street entertainment & busking Bag Pipers are never far away. The nearby Festival Theatre (2min walk) & Playhouse (15-20mins) & host an abundance of cultural events, including operas, ballets & stand up comedy shows.

5) Walking in The Green City: Edinburgh is a fantastic city to visit and is small enough to walk around. Holyrood Park, Princes Street gardens and the meadows (tennis & pitch n putt golf!) are popular places for a stroll, offering a change to the ever present guided historical / ghost tours! For the more energetic, Arthur's Seat (15mins away), an extinct volcano, is crisscrossed with walking trails and is popular with runners / cyclists as well as tourists for some of the best views of the city from Salisbury Crags. In addition, the Botanical Gardens and Edinburgh Zoo, home to the UK's only Giant Pandas, are both worth a visit and are accessible by bus.

6) Running, Edinburgh Marathon: Billed as “the fastest marathon in the UK” and “one of the fastest in the World” Edinburgh is expected to host 40,000+ elite athletes in May 2017.

All in all, in the sunshine there is nothing better than wandering around the streets soaking up the atmosphere. When it rains (which has been known!) you are never far from somewhere interesting to dash into out of the weather. Edinburgh boast a huge number of Art Galleries, Museums, theatres and live music venues as well as Cinema's, indoor shopping centres and entertainment Plaza's - something for everyone!
