Overview

About the property

Sleeps 6. 2 Bedrooms. 1 Bathroom.

Welcome to my Glenwood Mountain home ( Vernon ) located in beautiful Sussex County, in the northwest corner of New Jersey.

Home sits on 1.6 tranquil acres, National Park land behind and adjacent to the Appalachian Trail. Escape and step back into time. Originally built in the 1800's this home boasts country character and old world charm. My love of antiquing and unique collections has fully furnised this home.

Recently renovated & keeping with it's rustic appeal. Wide plank floors and beams in the living room and bedrooms, spacious bathroom with a deep antique claw foot tub, perfect for a nice hot bubble bath. Surrounded by nature, relaxation inside and out. Sussex County is well-known as a four-season recreational community. With our mountains and more than 80 lakes and streams, thousands of visitors are attracted here each year to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, apple/ pumpkin picking, skiing in 2 major areas, 7 award winning golf courses all within a 5 mile radius, one of the worlds largest water parks, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, NJ State Fair and Orange Co. (NYS) , festivals, antiquing in the beautiful historic town of Warwick, upscale restaurants with renowned chefs, to casual dining, cafe's and so much more. There is even a Drive-in theater in Warwick NY... all within minutes away.

For those truly looking to relax & unwind. Escape the commotion, hassle and bustle of your daily living. Enjoy natures surroundings listening to the birds, watching the deer and turkey cross, or squirrels on a chase. Travel the Appalachian Trail & bordering trails that open up to beautiful spring fed lakes only minutes from the house. Pack a lunch, grab a pole, throw out a line and enjoying some fishing. Take some quiet time to read a book, relax in the hammock, draw/ paint, perfect photo opportunities await or perhaps a possible song to compose while sitting around the fire pit. According to some of the old timers and as legend has it, locals gathered around sippin moonshine in the old still located on the property. Remains of a rock foundation stand in the back yard of what once housed a cow which provided fresh milk for the family then later to become a still to provide some entertainment and extra income. Many of songs and poems were written about these hills....

Rich in folkloar and wealthy in History, Sussex County is one of the last of 21 counties in New Jersey to retain its rural characteristics. Planning efforts within the county focus on retaining our rural character while moving forward into the next century.

This home offers both rustic and modern amenities, is clean, comfortable and in a great central location.

Come visit, get away, relax and enjoy life in the country, beautiful Sussex County with people and nature together.

About Lisa

I live on a small farm nearby with several goats, horses and chickens. Although I am less than a 10 min drive from the rental property I feel as if I'm on vacation whenever I'm there visiting even when there to work! There is such a calming serene feeling one experiences when there. I am pleased to be able to share my home with you, your family and friends and am anxious to hear about your new memorable experiences during your stay.

Notes:
Why pay a lot of money to stay in a condo, townhouse or resort when you can have privacy, serenity and a whole house for less. The Appalachian Trail is right in the back yard along with various surrounding hiking trails. Only a short drive to Mountain Creek Ski Resort, 7 award winning golf courses, Action Park Water Park, wineries and many area amenities. Winter is a very busy time of the year for skiers. Most accommodations are booked and going for top dollar! Spring hillsides come alive with spring flowers bloomimg and fields greening, summer breathes warm breezes and people take to the many lakes, streams and water parks for swimming, fishing and boating. Fall foliage is second to none with rich reds, yellows, oranges and golds coating the mountains and valleys. Come see what we have to offer, relax and enjoy. With many things to do, Sussex county is a beautiful place to be.

Cute and cozy -- and perfect for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

A long Labor Day weekend was upon us and I was desperate to escape hot & crowded NYC for some time away from it all. Lisa's home was perfect for our long weekend. My girlfriend and I had such a good time doing a whole lot of nothing -- short hikes nearby, grilling, lounging on the hammock, reading. The entire property inside and out is well maintained, charming and quiet. Lisa's pictures and description are spot on, and the house was immaculate. Lisa was warm and welcoming. She greeted us as she was finishing up mowing the lawn and showed us around with care and enthusiasm. It's clear that she put a lot of love and attention into the home. Since it's a home built pre-1900,, the rooms are generally small, but everything is well thought out and comfortable. And for the reasonable price point you get much more space and amenities and privacy than you would at a hotel or B&B. Plus the Sussex area is a truly beautiful rural area, with long lovely stretches of woods, hills, valleys and streams. These city slickers would come back again in a New York minute. Thanks again Lisa.

Peaceful and beautiful escape where memories are made.

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I were looking for a place to escape the hectic city life, and enjoy some whiskey around a campfire while enjoying the beautiful fall foliage; we found it and we will definitely be back.

Lisa was there to greet us when we arrived, which is unusual for an owner. She is a sweetheart and she has a great sense of humor. She informed us about the places around to eat and check out while there. If you’re brave enough ask about the Sasquatch story!!!

We got to see deer, bear, a barn owl and some coyotes while at the location! Overall, it was a great experience! Super cozy cabin with much detail and decor.

Cozy house in quite area

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the rental for 10 nights. To give an objective view for potential renters I will give the good and the bad. Upon arrival Lisa greeted us and gave us a quick tour. The house is very old (As advertised built in the 1800's) and there was a musty smell in the home upon arrival. There had been an unseasonable amount of rain this summer and the cellar underneath the house was damp from the moister. Lisa quickly corrected the problem by putting a dehumidifier in the basement. The house was built to the size of people in the late 1800's so people over 5-11 need to be careful going through the kitchen and up the stairs. The home was very well stocked with items and was cozy during our stay. There were window A/C units in all the rooms which helped keep the house cool and humidity out. The beds were comfortable and my family slept well during our stay. As other posters have commented the water is from a well has a very high level of iron in it. We chose to buy bottled water which was only about $10.00 for the 10 days. The well water is safe to drink but if your not from the area it may be something your not used to. The claw foot tub is a nice addition to the bathroom but we are shower people so the shower was a little tricky but was adequate. The house was conveniently located for our family vacation. We took the train in Peeskill to New York city several times. We also drove to Niagara Canada, Cooperstown and Philadelphia. We also went river rafting on the Delaware river only 25 minutes away. There are grocery stores in nearby Vernon. This is a very peaceful quite place. The Appalachians trail access is a few hundred yards away. Over all we had a great time staying at the house and would defiantly stay here again. Lisa is great on getting back to you on any issues that may arise. I would give the house a 4 star but the price and service by Lisa bumps it up to a 5 star.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Lisa's place is fabulous. Super-well maintained, so quiet, and just on a perfect piece of land. The pictures are really spot on, though they don't capture the house full-on accurately inside – it's actually bigger than it seems on photos. Also, I did not expect a/c, that was a great plus as well.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Centrally located for outdoor activities and browsing farm markets shops, etc. Beautiful countryside--and don't miss the Warwick drive-in if you visit in the warm weather. Cute cabin, perfect for one or two, but extra sleeping room for a few more people.

Lisa was terrific-- she was very responsive and welcoming to ensure we had a great stay.
