Our farm house is steeped with history and beauty! In the front yard is a huge Indian Mapping Rock that is the perfect place to climb on and soak in some sun. Sadly the markings have been lost to history. The house was built in 1923 by Dalton Hillis whose father came into the area with Daniel Boone after the Revolutionary War and claimed his property with a federal land grant. The house is surrounded by beautiful rock retaining walls and a rock lined drainage bed that runs just feet out the rear door. Our family was blessed to purchase this property in 2010 and immediately began renovations. We tried to keep the character of the home, yet bring it into the 21st century. You will love the 90 year old hardwood floors throughout the house! The walls and ceilings are also tongue and groove poplar.
Step back in time with all of the antiques that fill the house. Such a cozy house that you will forget what day it is while you're here. Some of our favorite antiques include a TN Hoosier cabinet, claw foot tub, 1918 icebox, crank style oak telephone, and fully functional well pump at the kitchen sink. We also have a well in the front yard. All this and you are only 75 feet from the river's edge. You can sit on the front in our cedar swings or benches and hear the river!
This is relaxation at its finest. Cell phones will not get you here! But you will be enveloped with beautiful mountain views all around and can partake in catch and release fly fishing for trout at its best. Also, we have acres of land, both cleared and wooded for you to enjoy. You can access the wooded property through a culvert built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1940s. And, some of the best neighbors that you could ask for.
Viewing of deer, wild turkeys, beaver and blue heron are just a few of our regularly seen animals.
Nearby attractions include Cumberland Caverns, Bluegrass Underground, Rocky River Bluegrass, Rock Island State Park, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Burgess Falls, Centerhill Lake. This area is close to the Caney Fork River which offers prime fishing! You can to antiquing in several nearby towns. This area is a kayakers dream with numerous waterways to explore. You're also within driving distance of several larger cities such as Murfreesboro, Nashville, Chattanooga and Cookeville.
The main bedroom is downstairs and has a very comfortable king size bed and a television. Upstairs is another bedroom with a queen bed and sitting area. Upstairs is also a bunk room with 2 full size beds and a 3/4 bed. This room also has a television.
The living room has a gas fireplace adorned with Rocky River rock, a desktop computer and a flat screen above the fireplace.
The kitchen is stocked with everything that you could need during your stay here. It has custom cabinets with granite tops. There is also a flat screen television here if you need some company while cooking. We installed a dishwasher and a large farm sink with faucets on either end so someone can help with cleanup.
The oversized bathroom has 2 vanities separated by a window which offers great natural light. The custom tile shower with glass door has a glass block window and bench. There is a fully restored antique claw foot tub and washer and dryer. We also installed a tankless hot water heater so you'll never run out of hot water!!!
***Due to the age of the house and the fact that there is only 1 bathroom we have decided to limit the number of guests to 2.
We have lived and worked in this area all our lives. Scottie owns and operates McMinnville Lawn & Garden and Margia is a professor at Motlow State Community College. We have 2 wonderful boys!
Scottie and Margia Keel purchased this farmhouse in 2010
We both frequented this community years ago to play softball at what is now the home of Rocky River Bluegrass. We started traveling and found that we really most enjoy mountain scenery, water and serenity. This place has it all. We kept it to ourselves and our family for a couple of years. Now we have decided to share it with others who like the same things.
A wonderful getaway! Great restoration/remodol of farmhouse. Spacious, well appointed and quite comfortable. We'll definitely be back!
Husband and I were completely blown away at the antiques, furnishings and decor. It truly felt like you stepped back in time. Everything was clean, smelled fresh and it was a pleasure to simply wander around the house during vacation down time to take it all in. Bathroom was beautiful and spacious. All bedrooms adorned with handmade quilts and antique dressers. Simply charming and welcoming. Short walk to beautiful Rocky River for trout fishing. Very peaceful. 5 stars for sure!
My wife along with her brother and his wife stayed a week in this beautiful home. The location was wonderful allowing us to visit several different state parks. The owners were great to work with as well. If you are looking for a beautiful home to stay this is the one!!
A truly beautiful home and property. A great place to get away from it all. We will stay again!!
My girlfriend and I were determined to go camping at Fall Creek Falls State Park when I line of massive storms came through. At the last second we decided to either get a house or turn back. Somehow the house was available, and the owner made it possible for us to arrive within a couple of hours. After seeing the house and property, I have no idea why or how it was available on such short notice! Of course, then it stopped raining.
The house was lovely! It was neat and clean, had us feeling at home, and was somehow very cozy while giving us plenty of space. The large front porch and beautiful view of the barns, fields, and hills made our trip. Next time I book this cottage, my fly fishing gear will be coming with me! Perfect couple's getaway!
My husband and I are recent 'empty-nesters' and had the opportunity to do something different and a bit more special for our wedding anniversary, this year. Kind of on a whim, we looked at several properties on VRBO. We chose Rocky River Fly Fishing simply because of its location...not too far, but not too close. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The farmhouse was adorable! It was perfectly appointed, and the river at the back of the property was TEEMING with trout! As we were checking in, quite late on Friday evening, a friendly neighbor, no doubt looking out for the homeowners, popped in to see who we were at such a late hour. He told us about an annual event in town, "only on the first week of October" every year. What a treat! It turned out to be the perfect way to spend our Saturday afternoon, before returning to the farmhouse to grill up our dinner. The homeowners went out of their way to bring over a new BIG GREEN EGG so we could enjoy the perfect steak for our anniversary dinner. The location of this property was ideal, in that on our way home (near Nashville) we were able to drop in on Bell Buckle and shop the various antique stores and grab a great meal at the local meat and three.
We couldn't have had a better time...and plan to book again in the future for the same weekend.
We are just down the road from Rocky River Blue Grass festival and just a few miles from Cumberland Caverns which host the TV show Bluegrass Underground. We are only 20 minutes from the picturesque Fall Creek Falls state park and only 10 minutes from Rock Island State Park. This property has the only private stretch of Rocky river that contains rainbow trout all year long.
