Mt. Evans Cabin with 150 acres, Stream, Forever Views, Relaxing destination

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

3 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Traditional Finnish sauna

We love this end-of-the road property for the privacy, stream with waterfall, and especially the incredible view of the continental divide. It now includes 4 separate parcels totaling 153 acres, and the closest neighbor is a half mile away.

*New* We now have high speed 40Mb internet and Wifi for our guests, and utility power!

Our 2000 square foot cabin is built for guests. We have 3 private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The 2nd floor loft has a private bedroom with queen bed and its own bathroom. The main floor bedroom has two twin beds and full bathroom. Downstairs is another full guest suite including a queen bed and full private bath. The kitchen has plenty of space for cooking. There is a gas range, a full set of cookware and spices. Washer and dryer are included. The TV room has a 40 inch flatscreen with satellite TV, a small movie selection, and a few games.

We love the outdoor living, so we added 600 square feet of deck facing down the valley to the continental divide. A large outdoor grill with side burner is plumbed directly to our home - no worry about running out of propane! The patio table includes a gas fire pit to warm the cool evenings.

Walk a few hundred feet down a hundred year old trail to the waterfalls of Little Bear Creek. The creek originates at the top of our land. It tumbles down the center of the property over several private waterfalls.

Game passes through the property as a migration route from Mt. Evans to lower elevations. Deer and elk are common. Bear have been seen on the property. A lynx has left its tracks, but we haven't seen it yet. Our resident foxes are almost pets. Bird lovers will see hummingbirds and friendly gray jays around the cabin.

Enjoy a traditional Finnish sauna in the evening. It is a separate building made from local whole logs with a Lamppa Kuuma wood stove and rustic barnwood and stone interior. It is a truly traditional experience with a cold water faucet and a hot water tank heated by the stove.

The cabin sits between Evergreen and Idaho Springs, convenient for access to the mountain communities, ski hills, and Arapahoe National Forest. Denver is less than an hour away.

The property is now on the power grid! We have been off-grid for years, but utility power is more convenient for our guests. We also have a new 40Mb internet service with WiFi for our guests. There is no phone line. We use cell phones in the cabin. There is radiant in-floor heat throughout the cabin, on all floors.

We often get asked the altitude. The cabin is at 9600 feet. At this elevation there are a lot of trees and a lot of sun. Snow stays on the ground from November through April.

Why Eric and Carolyn Lehto chose Front Range Colorado

For us, this cabin and land is about privacy and the best of mountain living. There is no better place to spend time with our kids and extended family. Even though we live only 20 minutes away in Evergreen, this is where we go to "check out" from busy schedules.

It is close enough to drive to either Idaho Springs or Evergreen restaurants and stores, and halfway between the city attractions of Denver and the ski slopes. Idaho Springs is about 20 minutes away down a mountain road with switchbacks. It has a great selection of restaurants, including our favorite Texas style barbecue at Smokin Yards, the famous Beau Jo's Pizza, and Tommyknockers micro brewery. Evergreen is 25 minutes away for additional restaurants, live bands at Little Bear Saloon or Cactus Jacks, large box grocery stores, Wal-mart, and Home Depot.

What makes this cabin unique

The Blue Valley Cabin has privacy that is hard to find anywhere. With 150 acres there are no neighbors, but unlimited views.

Fantastic cabin and amazing views

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at Mt Evans Cabin was simply fantastic! From the moment we first walked in the door, we knew it was going to be a great week! The cabin was immaculate and had all the amenities needed for our Colorado adventure. Our group consisted of 4 adults and 4 children. We had more than enough room for us all while utilizing the 3 bedrooms and pull out couch in the basement. We ate many meals in the cabin with all dishes and utensils needed available. We were pleased to have a washer/dryer and went home with suitcases full of mostly clean clothes (due to a few rainy afternoons/evenings spent hanging out inside)!

The kids' favorite aspect was the short hike to the waterfall. We all had fun exploring the area...including watching the sneaky little squirrel, which the kids affectionately named Jerry. I myself especially enjoyed the view from the deck as I sipped my hot coffee every morning before the kids got up. It was the perfect start to my day.

The location of this cabin is convenient to the many activities we had planned including a few "easy" hikes to St. Mary's Glacier and Squaw Mountain fire lookout, exploring and lunch at Echo Lake and the drive up Mt. Evans.

I couldn't be happier with our selection of Mt. Evans cabin and appreciate the owner's choice to share it with families like us! Cheers!

Great getaway close to Denver

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cabin providing both privacy and beautiful views. The cabin is very spacious for two couples with three floors, comfortable rooms and a great wide deck for watching the sunset over the mountains. We really enjoyed the fire pit during cooler nights and the short hike to the waterfall - a lovely place for a picnic. The cabin is a quick and easy trip from Denver but lightyears away in terms of peace, quiet and seclusion. Thank you Carolyn

Lovely home & scenery

  • 5 of 5

Just WOW! As others have commented, pictures aren't adequate to show this lovely home in its beautiful setting. We loved the design of the home and the quality of construction, layout & decor. Hiking trail & waterfalls were perfect. Truly a serene retreat.

Mountain home that is great inside and has great views and outdoor areas.

  • 5 of 5

Group of eleven... six adults and five kids ranging from thirteen years to twenty months of age. We all enjoyed the stay at this property so very much. The deck is so enjoyable, even more so that we could easily corral the youngest while still completely enjoying the vast beauty of nature. We trekked all around but did not come close to exploring all of it. Deer came through the driveway nearly every morning and we saw woodpeckers and various other wildlife. We baked ourselves in the sauna almost every night to loosen the tight muscles from the days hikes (or golfing, shopping , etc). Very awesome place to stay. Some of us experienced some altitude issues but they did not slow us down too much. Great vacation spot. Ate at Echo Lake lodge and in Idaho Springs. Lots of great places to eat with amazing food.

Finally Found the Perfect Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my wife and 11-year-old for seven days. This property is everything described and then some. Since 2012, we have stayed in a few cabins (two in Gatlinburg and one near Buena Vista) but never found one that had that perfect mix of views, amenities and privacy...until now. Within an hour of checking in, there were two deer munching on grass by the driveway. A curious fox stopped by to take a peek from a safe distance a day later. You WILL see wildlife here. Idaho Springs and Evergreen are both short drives away for any recreation and shopping. If you want to drive to the summit of Mt. Evans (which I highly recommend), it's less than an hour one-way.

Communication with Carolyn, Eric (owners) and Gary (maintenance) was top notch. There was an issue with the dishwasher that occurred just prior to check in, and we were kept updated with progress on acquiring the necessary replacement part and scheduling some time to perform the repair. It never felt like an intrusion.

All in all, if you're considering a stay at this property against others on VRBO, just stop here. You won't regret it.
