Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Idaho Springs - Blue Valley Cabin

3 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Traditional Finnish sauna

We love this end-of-the road property for the privacy, stream with waterfall, and especially the incredible view of the continental divide. It now includes 4 separate parcels totaling 153 acres, and the closest neighbor is a half mile away.

Our 2000 square foot cabin is built for guests. We have 3 private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The 2nd floor loft has a private bedroom with queen bed and its own bathroom. The main floor bedroom has two twin beds and full bathroom. Downstairs is another full guest suite including a queen bed and full private bath. The kitchen has plenty of space for cooking. There is a gas range, a full set of cookware and spices. Washer and dryer are included. The TV room has a 40 inch flatscreen with satellite TV, a small movie selection, and a few games.

We love the outdoor living, so we added 600 square feet of deck facing down the valley to the continental divide. A large outdoor grill with side burner is plumbed directly to our home - no worry about running out of propane! The patio table includes a gas fire pit to warm the cool evenings.

Walk a few hundred feet down a hundred year old trail to the waterfalls of Little Bear Creek. The creek originates at the top of our land. It tumbles down the center of the property over several private waterfalls.

Game passes through the property as a migration route from Mt. Evans to lower elevations. Deer and elk are common. Bear have been seen on the property. A lynx has left its tracks, but we haven't seen it yet. Our resident foxes are almost pets. Bird lovers will see hummingbirds and friendly gray jays around the cabin.

Enjoy a traditional Finnish sauna in the evening. It is a separate building made from local whole logs with a Lamppa Kuuma wood stove and rustic barnwood and stone interior. It is a truly traditional experience with a cold water faucet and a hot water tank heated by the stove.

The cabin sits between Evergreen and Idaho Springs, convenient for access to the mountain communities, ski hills, and Arapahoe National Forest. Denver is less than an hour away.

Note this property is completely off the grid. We have all the normal conveniences powered by solar with an automatic generator that kicks on when needed. There is no phone line. We use cell phones in the cabin. Throughout the cabin, on all floors, we have in floor radiant heat.

We often get asked the altitude. The cabin is at 9600 feet. At this elevation there are a lot of trees and a lot of sun. Snow stays on the ground from November through April.

Why Eric and Carolyn Lehto chose Front Range Colorado

For us, this cabin and land is about privacy and the best of mountain living. There is no better place to spend time with our kids and extended family. Even though we live only 20 minutes away in Evergreen, this is where we go to "check out" from busy schedules.

It is close enough to drive to either Idaho Springs or Evergreen restaurants and stores. Idaho Springs is about 20 minutes away down a mountain road with switchbacks. There is a great selection of restaurants, including our favorite Texas style barbecue, famous Beau Jo's Pizza, and Tommyknockers micro brewery. Evergreen is 25 minutes away for additional restaurants, live bands at Little Bear Saloon, large box grocery stores, Wal-mart, and Home Depot.

We couldn't have picked a better place!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect for our Colorado get away! We were in Colorado for a wedding in Golden. We wanted a place that would accommodate our party of 6 comfortably and we wanted a VIEW! This beautiful home gave us that and more! The pictures just do not do it justice! It was a little intimidating getting up to the cabin, because we are not used to the snow covered roads, but once we got used to the drive, it was a piece of cake. It is set up very high, so it takes some getting used to the altitude, as well. The beds were comfortable and kept us plenty warm at night. The cabin was very clean and had everything that we needed. We didn't venture out onto the land, because we had a short window of time and so much that we wanted to see. There is a lot to do within an hour or two in every direction! We could have spent another week or more! Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods were amazing and a must see! Also, if you are in the Castle Rock area, Crave Burger was super tasty! The owners were quick in responding and had everything clean, warm, and welcoming for our arrival! I just cannot say enough about this beautiful cabin! We can't wait to go back!

The owners and Gary are very kind and considerate people. As for the property, it slept my group of 8 with privacy and space to spare. Will rent again!

Breathtaking!!

  • 5 of 5

The view out the living room window was breath taking! Pictures can't do it justice.

This was my first time to rent a home such as this. Carolyn was amazing to work with and always answered my questions immediately. I felt like I already knew her.

The home was spacious but cozy. The decor was mountain feeling but current and tasteful. The furnishings were comfortable. We cooked for 10 easily.

I wouldn't change a thing!

Even better than advertised

  • 5 of 5

What you see in the photos is what you get, and then some. Amazing place. There were no flaws, no issues- everything was fantastic. Perfect for a quiet getaway for couples or small families and equally suitable for larger groups as there is plenty of space inside and outside. It has the feeling of being very remote and away from it all, but you're really only 15 minutes away from I-70 and Idaho Springs.
