Paradise West ~ Secluded Log Cabin with Sauna, Glacier Views, Beach Access

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Craftsman Built Log Cabin

This secluded log cabin is located at Mile 6 of Mud Bay Road, on Paradise Cove, overlooking the Chilkat Inlet, Rainbow Glacier and Davidson Glacier. The cabin and separate wood-burning log sauna were hand-built by a local artisan for an Alaska tourism pioneer. This was his favoured personal hideaway. Your visit here will not only afford you spectacular views from the spacious waterfront cabin and broad deck, but will also put you in touch with a slice of Alaska history. Family memorabilia from 30 years of this well-known patriarch’s life provide glimpses into his life, and the love and memories shared in this idyllic spot.

Paradise West is an open-plan cabin with a partitioned master bedroom with king-size bed, plus an open loft with two twin beds plus two trundle beds. There is also a queen pull-out bed in the living are. While rustic and remote, the cabin does have city electricity, and indoor plumbing: a shower, toilet and sink, all with non-potable water. We provide 15 gallons of drinking water for your arrival. The jugs may be refilled at the local spring. The kitchen has a refrigerator-freezer, electric range/oven, microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, blender. The kitchen is completely stocked with dishes, glasses, flatware, pots, pans and all you need for meal preparation. There is even a barbecue on the deck. An oil heater will keep you warm if needed.

Relish the peace and solitude of your private wilderness retreat. Climb down the hand-hewn steps and trail to the beach below the cabin to enjoy a waterfront bonfire or beach combing. Enjoy the many attractions and activities Haines offers: drive a short way to the Chilkat State Park; go fishing, hiking, bird-watching; or comb the local art galleries for a special piece to take home. This is truly a unique place, steeped in the history, beauty and wilderness for which Alaska is famous.

Maximum occupancy 6 persons.

Price is for 4 adults. Extra guests $15/person/night

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for letting us enjoy this view for a few days. We loved the cabin. You've done a great job stocking it with everything we needed. We really enjoyed the deck, looking out at the glacier and even spotted a porpoise. Our friends couldn't believe we got so lucky with this cabin. We hope to come back soon!

Such a GIFT

  • 5 of 5

Grand beauty, Quiet, & Peace! This is real Alaska with such comfort. Come here if you wish to step away typical American life. One has to respect the limitations of the septic system and the danger of fire. A necessity staying in this rural Haines breathtaking setting. Part of the experience is respecting your environment while it heals you. I needed a retreat and got a glorious one. Thank You

Carefree vacation in Haines

  • 5 of 5

Stunningly beautiful view from the deck, clean and well laid-out. Plenty of hot water and water pressure. Definitely the best supplied vacation rental that we've ever stayed in- there was nothing lacking!

A paradise in a paradise

  • 5 of 5

The most enjoyable was the great view from the deck.

At the evening two eagles was sitting in the tree next to the cabin. There was no noice disturbing the peaceful area.

We found everything we need for our stay.

When we come back, we will stay again in this paradise.

Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cabin pretty much based on the view in the pictures and it did not disappoint! It was incredible. Sitting outside we watched eagles fly over us seals in the water. So relaxing. The non potable water is a bit of a pain but the cabin overall was nice and comfy and the view makes it worth it. We ran into some issues with the water the creek ran dry where the water came from. I called Randa and she was very quick to get it resolved. We wanted a rustic get away, we got one :)
