Peaceful river treat

  • 4 of 5

The piece of property is beautiful. I heard the river as I stepped out of the car and knew we were in for a treat. Our two boys (7&10) loved wading, tubing and fishing in the river. Our dog loved romping in the river as well. We made good use of the fire pit for hotdogs and s'mores. The hot tub was another favorite feature, the kids would chill their toes in the river and dunk themselves in the warm jets. The view from the deck is quite lovely. ( my husband and I discussed opening up the view of the mtns, by clearing some trees, but understand that's a costly endeavor) Firefly season in June so we also had quite the light display. And in two days we only heard one car pass..total privacy!

The cabin is rather rustic, but all the necessities are provided. I travel with paper towels and t.p. etc to VRBO properties, but didn't need to dip into my own supplies. The bed on the main floor is the nice one. Toss the kids in the basement. Not sure two couples would be comfortable here..and if you're sketchy of mounted animals, just hang out on the deck.

We loved our quick getaway! And if we weren't moving to Ga in two weeks, we'd visit again. Thank you

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

I have hesitated to write this review because i don't want this place to get so booked up I will never be able to get back in. But the owners are so fantastic that just wouldn't be fair. Truth is, this is the most fantastic spot on the Shanendoah River I have ever found. This house has the best access the the greatest piece of the river. My 7-yr-old was able to wade all around the river right in front of the house. I was able to fly fish up and down the river from right in front of the house. Caught 5 in about an hour. We sat in camp chairs with our feet in the water, and spent one night in a tent on the broad open lawn overlooking the river, looking up at the stars. A perfect way to end a night of s'mores in front of a raging fire, thanks to the excellent wood provided on-site as part of the rental. Proximity to Luray and front Royal is ideal. Downriver Canoe Company is 5-10 minutes away in Bentonville. Excellent. The tree covered, gravel road 1.5 mile drive into the property really lets you know you are off the grid. That said, only recommendation is wifi access at the house so one can say connected for emergencies. We had at best one bar with Verizon so using the iPad to search local activities was unsuccessful. But that only helped us realize we had everything we needed at the house and we should just hang there! We had several talks with the owners before and during the trip. Very responsive, courteous and helpful folks! I don't think I will ever look for an alternative VRBO spot on the river. We are sold on this house!

Just Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

This place is just awesome. Everything you need, plus much more is provided.

The views are most beautiful. The mountains and river all in one view. Fire pit at the rivers edge is fabulous and the fire wood is provided.

Remember your bug spray, your in the country and the little mats are annoying.

We can't wait to come back.

Not enjoyable

  • 2 of 5

This home could be very nice if more attention was given to it's maintenance. I know it is not always practical for owners to visit their rental properties and therefore must rely on their cleaning and maintenance crew to inform them of needed repairs and other issues. We traded emails with the owners on our arrival concerning a couple of problems and finally asked that they call us upon their return from their weekend trip. We were there for the week and they never called. This home could definitely use new screens (to keep out bugs), towels, pillows and frying pans. The ceiling fan did not work as well as some lights. The really big turnoff for us was the water odor. It smelled like a sewer. I don't know if this has something to do with the minerals in the ground because I suppect the water comes from a well. It would have been nice to know what was causing this odor because we did not want it in our mouths and really did not like taking a shower in it. We bought water for drinking and other usage. We have vacationed in many rental properties all over the country and this is our least favorite. The view and sound of the river was the saving grace for us.

Owner's Response: I certainly take to heart your feed back. Being out of town ourselves during your stay we did not get a chance to call you back. I'm sorry we dropped the ball. As stated one screen had been torn and it has been replaced. April along the river does tend to have a great amount of bugs and sometimes it is difficult to keep them from entering the home. All screens have been inspected. Also all lights have been checked. Pillow and linens are being upgraded. The smell in the waster is sulfer which is common in wells in our area. It is fine to drink and other wise use. I do understand your concern. I am going to install a filter that will decrease the smell. It is tough for us to catch all the details that you noticed, but your feed back has been valuable to us. We will continue to strive to upgrade the cabin as it is a beautiful location.

Very nice setting!

  • 5 of 5

We had a really nice weekend here. The property sits on maybe 3 acres with great riverfront acess. We found the riverfront very useable and the best part of the trip. The Shenandoah becomes fairly shallow in front of the house, making it ideal for young kids and dogs, but it deepens within reasonable wading distance, making for some decent fly fishing. The house itself is perched up high on a hill, providing great views from the deck and hot tub. It has a nice rustic feel to it, and we appreciated the ability to put our kids in the loft area just above the bedroom (rather than on the lower floor, which has a nice insuite). The place is cozy, and we would probably have a harder time with older kids, but perfect for our family. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends looking to get away

Mountain Breeze is located in the midst of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Just 15 minutes away from downtown Luray where you can visit the famous Luray Caverns, walk the Greenway, shop our great downtown area, and have lunch or dinner in one of our incredible restaurants. You are just a short drive to the Skyline Drive, and to Massanutten Ski Resort, which is a year round resort with fun activities for the entire family.

Or you can just sit back and relax on the best deck ever

and enjoy your favorite beverage while overlooking the river and mountains. If fishing is your fancy well your at the right place. Just walk on down to the river and throw out that line. Enjoy roasting marshmallows in the cool evening around the fire pit by the river.

After a busy day of sightseeing or a lazy day on the deck

Finish your day with a dip in the hot tub and you'll be ready for a great night sleep.
