Explore Cuenca from this modern one bedroom, one bath apartment in a renovated colonial building. Located in the historic district, you'll be walking distance of Parque Calderón (the main square), Plaza San Sebastián, Calle Larga, and the entire colonial city center.
With easy access to taxis and public transportation, this secure, centrally located apartment is a wonderful point from which to explore Cuenca. When it's time to relax with a book or a glass of wine, enjoy the covered outdoor patio or rooftop areas. Internet, DirecTV, washer/dryer, and dishwasher are available for your convenience.
With your own fully equipped kitchen, you'll be able to take advantage of the glorious array of fruits and vegetables at the nearby market. Shops, restaurants, museums, and public squares are nearby.
What makes this place special? The location, privacy, shared common areas in the building, and modern amenities. You'll also appreciate the commercial-grade fiber optic Internet connection, which you won't find in most rentals. Both WiFi and direct Ethernet connection are available.
With one queen-sized bed, the apartment works best for one or two people, but a sofabed and twin air mattress are also available.
Check-in/check-out times are enforced only if guests overlap on the same day.
I live in the U.S., but am fascinated with South America. I hope to eventually live in Cuenca, at least part-time.
Natalie D. purchased this apartment in 2013
This building was featured in the New York Times as an example of colonial buildings in Cuenca being renovated while retaining the original facade. After staying in the building on my first trip to Cuenca, I was lucky enough to find out that this apartment was for sale, and bought it. This building is special for its lovely ambiance and the comfort level: the high quality Internet connection, plentiful solar hot water, good water pressure, and modern appliances.
Great central location, while being just far enough from the main square to be a bit more quiet. The building is secure and has friendly occupants.
This adorable apartment, right on Simon Bolivar street, has everything we needed, and more!
Central location and being on Simon Bolivar made it easy to navigate the city.
Our flight was late, and the owner graciously arranged for us to be met on the street, in front of the apartment, in spite of the cool, rainy night, and the late hour.
The interior courtyard was a delight. Right off the street into this charming space on our way to the apt.
The apartment is cozy, elegantly and cleverly laid out, utilizing all space.
The kitchen had all appliances, large and small, including a dishwasher which made us VERY happy. Glassware, plenty of cookware, all the necessities.
There is a washer/dryer combination that was a bonus. Hate hunting for a laundromat!
And, should anyone feel the need to, there is also an iron and ironing board.
The furniture is comfortable and attractive. The bed large and comfy!
There was also plenty of storage for our clothing. With lots of extra linens, towels and blankets. (Coming from Costa Rica, I found the mornings nippy, The blankets welcome)
And a safe!
For us, it's a relief knowing passports and money are safely locked away.
There is a gorgeous rooftop terrace. Perfect for champagne toasting.
We ate and drank looking over the city. Stunning views.
Our two weeks went by too quickly.
As soon as we returned, we received notice we had been credited our damage deposit. The owner was right on it!
The apartment, the owner, Natalie, the manager, Alejandra, and the maid, Mercedes, all made this trip a great experience!
We'll be back.
Thank you Natalie!
Great location. Walking distance to the park, places to eat and shop. Quiet, secure, clean with plenty of hot water. Well stocked with everything you need for a short visit or a long stay. Natalie is wonderful. Feels like home.
Our stay in this apartment was perfect for us. The apartment was as described and is located in a neighborhood that worked very well for us. One of our favorite evening activities was to walk over to the plaza outside of San Sebastian and watch the families together. We had all the household items that we needed for day-to-day living. The shower was great with plenty of hot water and a washing machine and dryer were available in the apartment. At night it was very quiet and we slept well in the very comfortable bed. The property was clean and everything was in working order. The property manager Alejandra was extremely helpful and easy to contact if needed. During our stay the apartment was carefully and thoroughly cleaned by Mercedes. Though we did not meet the owner in person, we were able to contact her easily by email as well. Because of the uncertainty of flying out of Cuenca (Tame won't fly if it is raining), Alejandra set up a private driver to take us to Guayaquil so that we might fly to Quito from there. A great driver and a fun easy alternative. Alejandra also had helpful information for us when one of us became ill. We would definitely stay in the apartment again and recommend it to family or friends. It was everything that we wanted and needed.
I recently spent 3 weeks in Cuenca and loved my stay in this unit. Very comfortable and had everything I needed. One block from San Sebastian Square on the quieter (in my opinion) end of the City Center. From this location I walked everywhere. Just a few blocks to the river and not far from the New Cathedral.
The unit had functioning dishwasher, Gas Range, Microwave, Washer/dryer unit, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster and blender. Nice bedroom, very comfortable for a couple. Bathroom was fine for me. Big shower. Satellite television with movie channels and plenty of English programming. Internet is shared which is common in Cuenca. So, bandwidth in evening drops, but I brought my own router which I recommend. I used the Ethernet cable in the living area so I had my own wi fi connection. Still had to share with other units, but signal strength is higher and its more secure. I really felt safe. You have a big locked door to enter building, then another locked gate and then very solid door to your apartment. Appreciated the safe in the bedroom. There is a nice cafe a block away for morning coffee and two restaurants less than half block away. Many more options withing comfortable distance. Walking I averaged 6-8 miles per day so I covered the entire city from this location. You can choose to be in the middle of the city but it will be noisy. For me it was perfect and I will stay here again. The owner, Natalie, was a pleasure to work with and her property manager, Ale, was very responsive. You can't go wrong staying here!
We really enjoyed staying in this well-equipped apartment located in a prime central area of Cuenca. It is within blocks of beautiful public squares and churches and definitely gives you the flavour of every-day life in Cuenca. There are a lot of shops and restaurants located nearby, as well as a great laundromat if needed. There is some noise from buses, but that would be anywhere in the central historic district, and it is something we got used to within a day or two. Natalie could not have been a more helpful and accommodating host. Thank you again Natalie for all your tips! We would highly recommend Natalie's home away from home to anybody wanting to explore Cuenca and the surrounding area.
We had so much fun during our week in Cuenca and this proved a perfect starting point for all our activities. We walked almost everywhere but when we needed a cab or bus, we never walked more than a block or two. Plenty of nice restaurants nearby too. The unit was clean, well maintained, and the bed was comfortable. Loved the open air spaces and the view from the rooftop - just wish we had more time to enjoy them!
Winner of Outside Magazine's 2014 Travel Awards for 'Best Adventure Hub,' Cuenca has something for everyone, whether heading to the Cajas National Park or staying in the colonial center of town. Cuenca has numerous museums, restaurants, markets, and architectural delights. Bus tours depart from the main square, and the biggest challenge is deciding what to.
