Charming Open Concept 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath Cottage With Unforgettable Water Views
Outdoor recliner seating provides wonderful views of Sarasota Bay in front of the cottage, and out the back sliding door a canal leads to the Bay. It's a nonstop nature show with pelicans and osprey diving for fish, dolphins swim by from time to time and fish jump throughout the day.
To get to beautiful Longboat Beach on the Gulf of Mexico side we have a deeded beach access path that is 0.4 miles away (a 10 minute walk, or a quick bike or drive) See Gulf Beach pics 17,18,19). All beach gear provided: chairs, mats, towels, umbrellas, beach wagon/cart for rolling supplies down access path to beach.
The cottage is attached to another unit - so it could be described as a townhouse. It is part of a small 8 unit (cottage/townhouse) condo association. It's at the end of a private road, so there is no traffic.

About Colin Trethewey
We love to get away from it all and that's why we love Longboat Key. We chose this location because we fell in love with the view. We have done a lot of traveling and now we're finding it tough to go anywhere else. We enjoy coming here to breathe in the fresh ocean air and experience the local cuisine. The nature preserve/park (with boardwalks along the water) next door is a bonus. We love walking to the beach, biking on the trails and enjoying ocean sunsets and bay sunrises. The people on Longboat Key are warm, friendly and fun.
Colin Trethewey purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Colin Trethewey chose Longboat Key
When you cross the bridge to Longboat Key you leave everything behind and enter a peaceful paradise. It's beautiful, quiet and peaceful here. Water out your back door (canal to Sarasota Bay) and front door (Sarasota Bay). Spectacular views of sunrises, sunsets, wildlife (birds, jumping fish and dolphins). A wonderful park is right next door with nature trails, boardwalks and water lookouts. The beach on the Gulf is at the end of our street - with a private access across Gulf of Mexico drive. I recommend brewing a pot of coffee (ground coffee from Harry's on our street - which we will provide) and waking up to catch the most amazing sunrises one step out your front door. Longboat is wonderful for cycling and walking and great dining is available within walking distance or a 5 minute drive for waterfront dining options.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are at the end of a private road that has virtually no traffic (just the 6 residents who live beyond us) Longboat is a peaceful place that you may never want to leave, but at the same, it's just a 10 minute drive from the popular St. Armand's Circle if you are looking for nightlife and great shopping... and Sarasota is about 15 minutes away. Historic Bridge Street with more great restaurants and waterfront views is 10 minutes north. So you have many options for relaxing and recharging your batteries and you have activities very close if you wish.

cozy, clean , beautiful natural setting
We enjoyed our stay very much. The view of Sarasota Bay was stunning. It was quiet and peaceful. The neighbors Tom and Brooke O'Malley were absolutely wonderful. The only regret we have is that our stay was not longer. Thank you Colin and Cyndi for letting us rent your cottage. Dave and Dianne
Wonderful Place to Relax or Go Have Fun.
Whether you're looking for a quiet place to get off the grid or getting out and having some fun, this is a great location for it. My wife, youngest daughter, oldest daughter (who's in college now) and myself met up in Long Boat Key for a long weekend. First, the cottage (bay overlook) was fantastic and slept us all comfortably. It had all the amenities of home.
The location is also good for exploring Lido Key, Long Boat Key and Siesta Key.
We visited the beach access just a few blocks from the cottage then cooked out our first night and played cards, then spent the day at Siesta Key on Saturday -- with plenty of time to get back and clean up for a dinner out at the Salty Dog -- very good dockside seafood just a couple of miles south that was very reasonably priced and had a great vibe. We also got to do some shopping in and around Siesta Village, which was a very cool place.
In addition to beach-going, my wife and I really enjoyed taking a leisurely walk through the Durante Park and marshes footsteps from the cottage...and the amount of flora they had there.
There's a lot of other things - boat and jet ski rentals, etc. - that we didn't have time to do, but we'll definitely be back soon. It was a lot of fun and the living arrangements couldn't have been better!
My wife, 2 adult daughters and I spent 10 wonderful days here in mid May. Colin is a great owner. He met us at the cottage and took the time to make sure we knew where everything was in the cottage. He supplies almost everything you could ever want. Inside there are plenty of sheets, pillows, towels, pots, pans, utensils etc. Outside there are patio chairs and umbrellas, beach chairs and umbrellas, kayaks, bikes, etc.
We went kayaking twice. The second time we kayaked around the point early in the morning and saw several dolphins.
We especially liked sitting on the front patio under an umbrella reading a book or just looking out at the bay. It was pretty warm (about 90 degrees) every day, but the breeze off the bay made it feel great. The gulf side beach is about half a mile away. I ran to the beach, then along the beach, every morning. If you are a runner you will love it. We also walked or drove to the beach a few times for sunbathing and swimming. The water was the perfect temperature (not hot or cold, I'd estimate it to be about 80-82 degrees).
I also recommend Coquina Beach, which is only a few minutes drive away. It is a beautiful beach with plenty of free parking, restrooms, picnic tables. It looked a bit busy on the weekends but we went there during the week and it was empty. If you want to do a little Sarasota sightseeing I recommend the Ringling Museum, especially the circus museum and the $5 tour of the mansion. When you exit the mansion make sure to sit out on the waterfront patio under an umbrella. What a life!
Overall, it was a great vacation and I would highly recommend renting this cottage from Colin.
Hidden "gem" with full view of Sarasota Bay
My husband and I spent two months in this adorable cottage and I loved it!
It is updated with fun decor and has a view of Sarasota Bay from the back door
and a view of a waterway with boats moving along from the front windows.
Also it has wonderful north light to paint if you steal part of the dining nook.
Efficient use of space in a very private neighborhood. Loved biking and walking the beach
every day and wish I'd had the nerve to kayak! Our only problem was that we are golfers
and our favorite courses were 35 minutes + away, often fighting traffic getting on and off LBK.
Just stay on the island with all those REAL restaurants, no franchises, and enjoy!
Perfect spot to see wildlife, enjoy some quiet, and explore the area.
This house is a gem and was perfect for our needs. We wanted someplace quiet where we could explore both Bay and Gulf without having to drive. We also wanted to be near trees and other greenery, with plenty of wildlife. Having the Bay beach was great because there are little crustaceans and fish to find at the water's edge, as well as many different seabirds. The walk to the Gulf side beach was easy and made extra convenient by a beach cart with all the beach paraphernalia one could want. The bikes were excellent and the bike shop nearby provided inexpensive rentals for the kids. Durante Park is beautiful, as is the view over the Bay. The neighbors were so nice and made our stay that much better. Finally, the house itself is clean and comfortable. The website describes it very well. There were no unpleasant surprises and the owners were a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!
Five stars for this off-beach rental.
This place deserves five stars. Very clean,no musty odors or cleaning fluid odors for that matter. It,s small but very well layed out. Great bay access for canoe or kayak. Quiet neighborhood with no thru traffic. I recommend this place for nature lovers who don,t mind being four blocks from the beach.
