About this property

Guesthouse—On 20 Acres—Sleeps Six or More

This 1,100 sq. ft. guesthouse rests on 20 private acres. It's less than one mile from the Gallatin River where the movie, A River Runs Through It, was filmed. The classic western town of Bozeman is a 15-minute drive, Big Sky is 45, Livingston is 50, and it’s just 90 minutes to West Yellowstone.
All guests receive a check-in gift that includes a bottle of wine and snacks.
There's plenty of room for a family or group of anglers.
You’ll experience rustic luxury with modern amenities and breathtaking 360-degree mountain views.
If fly fishing is your passion three public access sites to the Gallatin River are five minutes away. The renowned Madison River is a 25-minute jaunt and the Yellowstone River is a 50-minute drive. You can fish alone or make arrangements with our house guide service, Trout Tales Fly Fishing (trouttalesflyfishing.com). Ideally, guides should be booked as far in advance as possible.
The guesthouse design features a great room with a 12-foot ceiling, a large kitchen, an oversized sofa and chairs, and a wood-burning Franklin stove. Plus there's a shared, open bunkroom with six custom double bunk beds.
The kitchen has a gas stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, cookware, table settings, and barware.
An extra-large bath has double sinks and a spacious tub/shower.
Of course, quality linens, towels, down pillows, soap, and shampoo are also included. There's also a large porch, gas grill, and fire pit.
Within 10 minutes of your door, there’s a gourmet market for meat, fish, beer, wine, and groceries. Baked goods, coffee, and multiple restaurants are also nearby. Plus, a historic steakhouse and bar—with live country music—is within walking distance.

Mountain Time
My family of 4 stayed at the beautiful On the Fly Ranch. From the moment we drove up we knew we picked the best ranch for us to stay at. The sunset views were amazing on the sweet porch and all the little touches when we arrived were just perfect. The ranch gave our family the opportunity to have beautiful homebase while we explored all the Montana had to offer! We will return to relax and recharge!

Bunkhouse stay
The Bunkhouse was better than advertised! It was so nice and accommodating for our family of 5. We loved the bunkbeds, comfy and fun. Duane provided fishing recommendations which were helpful. The book in the cabin gave great advice on where to eat, grocery shop etc. The area was peaceful and well landscaped, very relaxing! Highly recommend this VRBO. We will be back!

Picture Perfect
The Bunkhouse was the perfect blend of beauty and comfort. Located just close enough to Bozeman and Big Sky for nights out, shopping and other activities. Back at the Ranch breathtaking views and peaceful surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for rest and relaxation. Whether we were casting a line, riding horses, rafting or hiking - we were never far from the comforts of the Bunkhouse. Our family of 5 felt right at home during our stay, the Bunkhouse is thoughtfully stocked and tastefully decorated. We truly loved our time creating memories in Gallatin Gateway, and as a guest of On The Fly Ranch. The hosts were spectacular.

About the host

Hosted by Michele Maidens

Host profile image
In 2014 Michele and Duane “Doo” Maidens built On The Fly Ranch.
You’ll see them every day on the Ranch. When Doo isn’t fishing he’s tending to the grounds. Michele works with her two horses and makes sure guests have everything they need.
Michele states, “We love sharing our dream. Families come from all over the country to rent the guesthouse, many returning multiple times. We’ve had weddings, reunions, and long and short stays. And our German Shorthaired Pointers, Buckwheat and Billy, welcome everyone as their new best friends.”
We look forward to seeing you.

Why they chose this property

This is the perfect base camp for a family or group of anglers.
The ranch is close to the Yellowstone Park West Entrance (a 90-minute drive). You can fish or raft the Gallatin (2 minutes away), Madison (30 minutes), and Yellowstone (45 minutes) rivers. Go horseback riding. And tour Montana State University.
Explore downtown Bozeman’s shops, galleries, and restaurants. It’s also a quick trip to the towns of Big Sky, Ennis, Gardiner, Livingston, and West Yellowstone—each drive includes wide-open views, Montana wildlife, and rivers.
While we want you to explore Montana, some people don’t even leave the Ranch. On the property, you’ll encounter bald eagles, deer, ducks and geese, hawks, horses, fox, and turkeys. Venture out on a 15-minute drive to see bison, elk, and moose.
From the guesthouse you can bike, hike, run, and walk for miles. Sit and read that book you’ve been meaning to finish. Cook, sip, and relax. Or mosey on down to Stacey's Steakhouse for dinner, drinks, and live music. There’s also Wi-Fi and a big screen TV if you must stay connected. It’s that perfect.

What makes this property unique

If fly fishing is on your list, there are three public Gallatin River access points ten minutes away for wild, catch-and-release brown and rainbow trout (even the elusive grayling).
The Gallatin is one of the most productive and safest wading rivers in Montana. Close to the Ranch, you can walk up and downstream for miles and rarely see other anglers. It’s also an easy drive to the Madison and Yellowstone rivers.
You can fish on your own, or make arrangements with our house guide service, visit Trout Tales (www.trouttalesflyfishing.com) and ask for Ian. Note that guides should be booked at least three to four months in advance.
