Just 5 minutes to the north is the Mercantile grocery store where you can get fresh meats and vegetables or bakery goods.Day trips to Seeley Lake just 25 minutes to the south where there is snowmobile or atv riding, boat rentals, ice fishing and shopping. A 45 minute trip north to Bigfork where you can enjoy western art galleries, Bigfork Summer Playhouse, or boat tours on Flathead Lake. Also 90 minutes north of River Keep is Glacier National Park.
Greg is a second generation Montana builder who grew up going to the family cabin at Lindbergh Lake, just 14 miles away. Robi is a third generation Kalispell native and works as an RN at Providence Hospital.
Greg designed and built this cabin for their family of three boys, a daughter in law, and our grand daughter. Robi did the decorating.
Robi and Greg have spent their last 30 years together recreating both summer and winter in the Swan valley. Water skiing, tubing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, hiking into various lakes and fishing the waters of the valley.
The more we spend time here the more we realize this is really is, 'The Last Best Place' for us and our family.
We are excited to be able to share what we love with you.
Greg McCue purchased this cabin in 2009
When we saw this property we instantly realized the wonderful potential for family and privacy. As we have uncovered the immense beauty of this property and the outdoors we continue to be wowed by the peace and happiness River Keep has blessed us with.
We love the close proximity to groceries, dining, church, fresh produce, the Community Center and Rodeo grounds, the Library, Lindbergh Lake, Holland Lake, and all the wilderness trails and lakes.
We have built a modern state of the art cabin with all the things to make roughing it so easy. With the privacy we have and the room to entertain it is always easy to have friends drop in, even if it gets loud.
Being able to help one of the kids learn how to fly fish is as much fun as early mornings alone on the river.
The Forest Service office is a mile away if you need maps, advice, or you just want to go through their animal museum. Check out the Grizzly Bear mount on display.
Wonderful property and a fantastic secluded location. We held a family 60th birthday celebration at River Keep in mid September 2016. The cabin was perfect and we rented the cottage as well to accommodate our adult children and their spouses. It was perfect, as the fall evenings cooled we had a fire warming the home and enjoyed the "alone" time with family playing games and reminiscing. I highly recommend River Keep and those who rent the property owe a great big thank you to Greg and Robi for sharing their special place. Tons of whitetail deer on the property and the river was running low this time of year - great for walks along the bank. We took a day hike to Holland Lake falls - a great side trip and the trail is well maintained.
Simply put, we would do it all over again! Thank you Greg and Robi!
The master suite steam shower is killer!
We spent the last week of July at River Keep enjoying a family reunion. There were 13 of us and between the home and the bunkhouse we were all very comfortable. The pictures on the VRBO site do a good job of showing what the house, bunkhouse, and area are like but you have to see it in person to really appreciate how nice everything is. Greg was very helpful before we arrived answering any questions we had regarding River Keep and the surrounding area. We were fortunate to meet Greg and Robi when we arrived. They showed us around and offered suggestions from fishing to firewood, from restaurants to lakes. The listing description is very accurate as to location, layout, and what is provided. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised on how well equipped the property is. The appliances are top rate, furniture and beds very comfortable , and the patios well equipped (space, patio furniture, bar-b-que equipment). The proximity to the Swan river and the view of the rugged Swan Range is certainly very nice and a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or s'mores around the fire pit at night. We saw deer, eagles, and even the elusive mountain lion from the patio. The location of River Keep was perfect for us. From fishing the Swan river, to swimming, canoeing, and paddle boarding at Holland Lake, to hiking to high mountain lakes while picking huckleberries , to visiting Glacier Park, the location could not have been better. Since a nearby grocery/bakery, gas station burned down, to fill up on gas and refill the refrigerator entailed a drive to Seeley Lake or Bigfork. There is however, a small grocery store in Condon where some supplies can be found.
I would not hesitate to recommend the River Keep to friends and relatives. The thoughtfulness and genuine friendliness of Greg and Robi were icing on the cake to a wonderful stay at River Keep.
It was a real pleasure to stay at Greg and Robi's fantastic property. It is such a warm and clean cabin, and has so many wonderful touches for families. Games, fishing poles and waders, ample fire wood and gas barbecue, bikes and horseshoes, baby high chair, even roasting sticks for s'mores...our older kids barely remembered their electronic devices. Great tips on the local hikes (we took two of the three), and you're located a short walk from the best huckleberry shake stand (and fully stocked mercantile) in MT!
We joined with family members from Canada and South Africa for a family reunion. We had an amazing time. The cabin was clean, comfortable and very well stocked as far as the basics goes - we have rented before where the owners only left a few toilet rolls and bin bags with us having to buy those items as we needed them - here we had plenty to cover us for the two week stay which was such a treat. Not only that, but the kitchen had everything one needed as far as spices, supplies, plates etc. We truly felt like it was home away from home! The wifi performed superbly for all of us on devices and loading up videos and pictures etc. - which always makes for a fun time.
And let's not forget to mention the property. We were looking for something private, with a river on it. and we got that and more! We felt completely secluded (and yet we were nice and close to the little town nearby). The river was at a high level and the kids loved playing in the shallows - the sight and sound of the Swan River was therapeutic to say the least. We enjoyed s'mores at the fire pit, barbequed, challenged each other to horse shoes and enjoyed the deer that came by each day. Gary let us use the bear spray that was at the cabin so we took that with us whenever we went walking, but luckily did not see any bears ;) We enjoyed watching the birds with their nest next to the house and read quite a few of the great books they had out to read. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cabin and would highly recommend this place!
Greg also suggested a few outings close by which provided great memories . Thanks Greg! If we lived closer, we would come to your place more often.
My husband I are originally hailed from Montana but after college moved on to South Dakota while my. sisters spread all over the United States. Our stay at River Keep was the first time we had all been together in years and the setting was absolutely perfect besides just being in a beautiful part of Montana, the property is amazing. The house is beautiful with all the amenities. There is fishing right out the backdoor and you aren't too far off the highway but feel like you are completely secluded in a private oasis.
Beyond the beauty of the amazing property the owners are fabulous as well. We rented the bunkhouse, which was a great add of space but the cleaning people locked it and didn't leave the key. Rather than inconvenience us, Greg came out to the property and changed the whole lock. We were lucky enough to get back before he finished so we got to have a nice chat and hear the whole story of the property, which we totally loved.
We've all talked about our stay since we've been back to our respective homes and all agree another rendezvous at River Keep is definitely in the future. I have no doubt my husband and I will be back with a small posse even if we can't get the whole group.
We took 11 family members to the River Keep for a week. Beautiful valley, great view from the back porch. The bunkhouse was a must for us and we ended up with 2 extra single beds in the private rooms upstairs. The home is very nice with plenty of room for evening get-togethers in the living room. The bluetooth worked great for playing music from our phones. One thing to note.....no Verizon service in the valley. We were able to make calls using the stable internet connection offered at the house. Mike (owner of the local store) also has a landline phone that he was very generous to let us use.
Watch for the wildlife as it is abundant and the hiking and fishing in the area is great. The owners have plenty of maps/resources onsite so you can explore with knowledge during the days. The tubing in the river was the highlight for the kids!
River Keep sits between the Swan Range and Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Mission Mountain Wilderness. Our front yard is the confluence of Glacier Creek and the Swan River.
River Keep gives you a great place to start any adventure, central to everything wild outdoors.
Start the early morning with one of our complimentary fly rods and a 2 minute walk to the river to fish for Trout- Rainbow - Bulltrout & Cutthroat. Enjoy standing knee deep in the gentle river current while the sunshine bounces off the Swan's. The geese cackle and the Eagles screech while you mend your line into some riffling pools of water teaming with fish. Watch the deer and elk along the bank as they start their day. Then the short walk back to the cabin for the best breakfast and coffee you've ever had. That's my favorite way to start the day!
Maybe you'd rather start your day with a mountain bike ride into the Mission Mountains, the ride starts at River Keep. And the kitchen is big enough to feed a whole bunch of hungry trail riders.
There are over 30 lakes close by that can be hiked into or recreated on. Holland Lake and Lindbergh Lake are within 12 miles, bring your own boat, there is fantastic flat water to ski on, or canoe or kayak. If you want to rent a ski boat go to Seeley Lake just 30 minutes away.
If you are looking for a back country experience gentle enough for the kids, there are lots of 2 to 5 mile hikes into mountain lakes. A family favorite is to grab the bear spray and fishing pole and hike 1 mile through the Mission Mountain Wilderness to Glacier Lake.
If you want some white water fun bring a raft and put in the Swan River at Piper Creek. Keep an eye out for the moose. I'd also bring my fishing rod.
Head 8 miles south of River Keep to the Holland Lake Lodge to rent a canoe, kayak or sign up for a guided horse back riding trip into the Swan Range or Bob Marshall Wilderness. At the end of the day enjoy a world class dinner and drinks at the Lodge or get a steak or pizza dinner at the Hungry Bear Steakhouse.
Our brand new cabin is decked out for cooking your own steaks or fish on the patio gas grill. Arrange the patio chairs for relaxed conversation and have the kids slide into 2 over sized picnic tables that seat 10 people
After a big dinner it's time for yard games, some evening fishing, a bon fire or maybe a walk on the road. Don't forget the hot dogs and marshmallows.
When it's time to slow it down go check out the cabinet next to the stone fireplace for board games, poker chips or a deck of cards. A fun way to bunch up the family for some laughs one last time for this day.
Glacier National Park is only 1 1/2 hours drive north. It's a beautiful drive through the Swan Valley past Swan Lake, through Big Fork, on to Columbia Falls and into the Park. Getting there is as fun as being there.
There are many outfitters available to guide you into the Bob Marshall for white water rafting, fishing for massive trout, or big game hunting in the Fall.
Winter in the Swan Valley is a wonderland. Cross country skiing or snowmobiling right from River Keep. There are miles of un-groomed trails right outside the door. Also if you go south 25 miles there are miles and miles of groomed and expert snowmobile trails.
Year round activities and year round quiet. Our log cabin on 10 acres will be the respite you're looking for.
Bring the book you've been meaning to read and see if you can sit still or stay awake long enough to finish it.

The bunkhouse is an additional charge of $150.00 per night or $750.00 per week. It sleeps 4 people in a queen size bunk bed and has a small breakfast table and a sunroom all packed into 264 sq. feet. There is no running water, toilet, or Netflix television but there is a TV for playing DVD's. Also there is a refrigerator, and microwave.
