This unique and romantic two story, one bedroom cottage is nestled in a mango tree. The house is an A-frame structure with high ceilings and skylights making it bright and airy. The house is located less than a mile from the bohemian town of Paia and all North Shore beaches. The closest beach access is Tavares Beach, about a 5 minute walk away.
The second floor bedroom has a queen size bed with French doors that open up to the private lanai. The main floor has a living area with a full size futon/couch, a full kitchen and a marble tile bathroom with a jetted tub and shower combination. You can see just a small sliver of ocean from the second floor lanai, but we do not call it an ocean view. There is a patio just outside the house, with an outdoor grill, outdoor shower to remove the sand from your day at the beach and your own private parking area.
If you have a larger group, our Green Turtle House is on the same property. See listing: vrbo #720946
We are a certified vacation rental permit #2013/0022.
Aloha, It would be a pleasure to host you at one of our Spyglass Maui Rentals and share the "Aloha" of the island with you. We have two units: the Gingerbread House and The Green Turtle House. Both houses sit on the same property, in the middle of all the North Shore beaches, a little less than a mile from Paia town. Poni, the owner, is a musician, singer-song writer, surfer, home owner, and lover of nature. All of us on the Spyglass Maui team care about the environment, and like to stay healthy and active. Sabrina, our on sight manager, is your contact when you get to Maui. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us! Mahalo.
Sabrina purchased this house in 2004
We loved the Gingerbread house!! Especially loved the upstairs deck.
Loved staying here, close to paia and views from the bedroom.
Manager Sabrina made this stay at Gingerbread house great for my wife and myself. We would definitely stay again as very clean and private.
The Gingerbread House cute, quiet, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay in the Paia area. Sabrina the manager was very aloha and very helpful!!
I stayed at multiple locations on Maui during my vacation, and the Gingerbread House was absolutely my favorite; I highly recommend staying there. The architecture of the house perfectly suits its function as a beach house, and the house itself is clean and comfortable with modern amenities.

We would like to disclose that our houses are in a tropical environment where permanent, Maui residents live. If this is your first time visiting Hawaii, please know that some insects and geckos may find their way into the house. They are a part of island living and we have learned to coexist with them, especially since they are not dangerous and are much more afraid of us than we should be of them. We strive to keep our houses very clean but this does not mean that the houses will be insect free. Like other rentals in this neighborhood and unlike the huge resorts, time share properties and hotels in the tourist areas, we use limited amounts of minimum impact, natural insecticides since we do not wish to poison ourselves, our guests or the environment. Please keep this in mind when considering booking with us.
From Foddor's-"Best American Small Towns", June 2014 issue: PAIA, HAWAII
It can be difficult to find remnants of authentic
Hawaii behind the multitude of resorts, but this is
one of the last holdouts. Located on Maui's northern
coast just off Highway 36, Paia was founded as a
sugarcane enclave and though the sugar mill closed
in 2000, the town is as alive as ever. Boutiques featuring
everything from high-end fashion to beachwear line the
streets, and with some of the world's best windsurfing
spots in the area, you're sure to find an opportunity
to put your new gear to good use. Because it sits along
the route to Hana, the town is pleasantly devoid of major
resorts and offers a great stopping-off place
for a few hours or a few days.
