Northern California Coastal Home With View Of Ocean And Close To Redwood Forest

Northern California home sleeps 8-10. View of ocean from master bedroom upstairs deck(ocean 1 block away). Two story home with fully equipped kitchen(seats 10 people), utility room off kitchen/garage, 4 bedrooms(2 queen beds, one twin bed and one twin bunk beds), 2.5 bathrooms, 2 living areas(both have double futon), propane fireplace/stove in den that opens to back yard, upstairs deck, back porch(with chairs). Bicycles(4), linens, kitchen utensils/ equipment/ appliances(stove and 2 refrigerators,microwave,toaster, dishwasher,etc), full size washer/dryer provided. Walk to ocean (1 block away) or community park(basketball court/play equipment). Within walking/biking distance of 2 historic lighthouses, whale watching, movie theater, cheese factory, community pool(heated indoor), harbor, shopping, restaurants. Within close driving to Redwood State and National parks, casino, golf course, 10 miles from Oregon state line. Parking on site (2 car driveway) with one car garage. Collection of books, dvds available with dvd player.

Situated close to rocky coast and Battery Point lighthouse. Wonderful area to walk and bike. Easy access to all hiking in Redwood parks. Remote area free from normal city congestion.

Nice Home, Poor Communication

We stayed from Jul 21, 2017 - Jul 23, 2017. The home itself was nice and clean. We felt safe in the area and the rooms were all fully equipped. <<4 stars for the home>>

What I did NOT like so much was the unwelcoming communication with the owner. The owner's first message to me was a recommendation to stay elsewhere if we were the loud partying type. Even after I repeatedly told the owner that we were going to be out and about most of our stay there, and that we do not plan to party, the owner continued to emphasis no partying. I understand that the owner must have had a poor experience before, but as a new client to this home, it felt very unwelcoming for me. The owner also did not contact me with access instructions like she said she would when it got closer. I had to contact her for it the day we were going to check in. The lock box was also hard for me to open and close). <<1 star for the communication>>

Owner's Response: This is my vacation home which I like letting nice people use. I have had a lot of problems this summer with loud partygoers staying outside at night bothering my neighbors. It is a quiet neighborhood and I would rather try to be a good neighbor. I don't approve anyone now without emphasizing that they should stay somewhere else if they party all night. That is best for the renter and the neighbors. It wasn't personal. Additionally, I don't provide access directions until the day of check-in. If it was a problem and you needed it earlier I would have given it to you. This is my vacation home. It is not a Motel 6. Respect for my neighbors, my rules, and the current renters is more important to me than trying to fill the house with a last minute renter.

Adequate for our needs

There were 8 of us (4 adults, 2 teens, a 3yr old, and a 16 month old) and we stayed just 2 nights at this home. It accommodated all of us comfortably. Only gave 3 stars because the home has a strong stagnant smell of mold and/or mildew. Other issues that are easy fixes: in the upstairs bathroom the shower head is pretty awful, barely sprays water, & needs replaced, all the beds upstairs (queen and bunk beds) have quite noisy mattresses, and the upstairs toilet needs some reinforcement as it moves back & forth when sat on. This home was adequate for what we needed. We liked the large kitchen & the appliances appeared upgraded & were all in great working order. We weren't there much anyway, we were hiking the redwoods and/or at the beach!

Adequate ocean community property

We enjoyed the large kitchen/eating area. The access to ocean amenities just blocks away was wonderful and the neighborhood was quiet. We would have liked to have more comfortable chairs or couches to set in. Also the table was a little small for six to use for games. Some ceiling mold in the upstairs bathroom created some concern.

Cozy and comfortable in a great location

Our group of 10 (6 adults, 4 children) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The home was

affordable, comfortable and well stocked with bedding and kitchen supplies to make for an enjoyable stay. The location is within easy walking distance of a city park and the beach (I believe Preston Island was the name of the closest beach access about 4 blocks away, with a stunning viewpoint about 2 blocks from the home), and you could easily walk to other beachfront locations, or cycle with the bikes from the garage.

Great house!!
