Surf House is perfect for a romantic getaway or family vacation! Perched above the Caribbean you will have a bird’s eye view of all of the happenings down on the beach. Watch the surfers play and the sail boats fly by. The tropical setting is lush with fruit trees and local flowers. There are two bedrooms each with a private bath and shower. The view from the Great Room of the house is all glass and provides a dramatic setting to prepare meals, hang out or watch the clouds float by.
Couples love the cozy cottage feeling that is provided by being off of the beaten path when you are at the Surf House. There is a sense of privacy as you ascend the 100 steps to reach the house. Call us now to book our secret get away in Little Apple Bay Tortola.
Jon Schutt grew up in the Virgin Islands after his father took a job flying sea planes for Antilles Airboats in the 1970s. A love for the Caribbean Sea has led to a life of sailing, snorkeling and surfing. With his wife Nancy they continue to travel and pass on the many passions found in the Caribbean and beyond to their two children.
Jon Schutt purchased this cottage in 2008
Tortola and Little Apple Bay touch the heart like no other place. When we are relaxing at the Surf House, reading books, watching the surfers, feeling the Caribbean breeze, we feel more alive than ever. This cottage is magical. Everyone who makes it to the top of the 100 stairs says the same thing ' how did you find this place?'
This Cottage has views that can not be matched. All of the glass windows at the Great Room are the entertainment for us. Watching nature unfold perched above the Caribbean in a private west Indian style cottage is something we always dreamed about and feel blessed to be part of each time we go to the Surf House.
The Surf House had everything we needed for our week visit to Tortola. Jon was super helpful and answered all my questions promptly during the booking process. Rebecca was a wonderful help and welcomed us warmly. The views from this home are breathtaking. The location is quiet and centrally located, making all our daily outings a piece of cake. We didn't find the stairs or driveway any more intimidating than any other places we've been in the islands previously. The space is great for 2 couples, with privacy for both. We brought our almost 2 year old and she had a great time and especially enjoyed visits from Cookie and Puppy 1 and 2. The best thing we did was rent a bare boat for 2 days so we could explore the various stops in BVI on our own. Peter Island provided phenomenal service at Deadman's Beach Bar and we also enjoyed Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke. And did I mention that view!?! We can't wait to plan our next visit back!
This was our first time staying at the Surf House. What a fantastic view! The many steps were not that bad and well worth it. The place was clean and well stocked.
The climb up to the house was initially daunting, but the view from the top made it all worth it....EVERY TIME!!! We vacationed with another couple and the separate bedrooms and bathrooms were the perfect setup for us. The location was private enough, but an easy drive to other parts of the island. We would definitely book again when we come back.
Loved it! We were grateful to for daily dog visits and the stunning views. Our daughter and her boyfriend enjoyed the privacy of the second bedroom and I appreciated their youth when it came to toting groceries and luggage up from the parking area. I noticed a lot of the reviews mentioning the dreaded driveway so I switched to 4-wheel low on my first attempt and never gave it a second thought. Be sure you get a lesson on how to use 4-wheel low from your rental agency if you are unsure.
There were a few bumps in the road, nothing serious and we only contacted the owner once over a blown circuit breaker and we got an immediate response. WiFi worked well and the kitchen was pretty well equipped.
We explored from sunup to sundown daily and covered a lot of ground. There was a lot of north swell during our visit. We especially enjoyed: Josiah's bay, Brandywine Estates, Reuben Chinnery at Bananakeet, Smuggler's Cove and Long Bay on Beef Island.
House was as shown.. expect better!
Large rooms, with clean tile and views from every window. The sound of the surf is a constant sound.
Lots and lots of pots, pans and dishes.
Large new appliances.
Manager is onsite and extremely helpful and friendly.
The visiting dogs give kisses for no extra charge😜
The steps were no problem.. we are ages 66-78. Driveway scarey at first, but 4 wheel drive made all the difference. Plus practice!!
I recommend this lovely place. Safe, beautiful and everything you could want. Peaceful serene beauty.
Local art at Aragons at Beef Island Dock are and beach.
Surf House was great! Definitely a house for active travelers because of the steps. It was the 3rd time that we rented a place in Tortola and this house had everything that we needed. I like that there is no tv..We were out everyday exploring, surfing and snorkeling and had no interest in a television. The wifi worked fine. There's dvd's for nighttime...but most nights we sat on the deck and watched the stars. It's extremely safe up on the hill, nobody comes up there except the people staying there. I have to agree with some other reviews...it was the most challenging driveway that we ever had to navigate. It takes a little time to master. "Cookie" Rebecca's dog was so cute and friendly. She came up to say good morning and good night every day. She's like your own personal "watch dog". Rebecca was very friendly and helpful and is easy to get in touch with. She lives walking distance to the house. The house was very private and nice. We would definitely stay there again!
Imagine You on Tortola. Escape, Rejuvenate, Relax…Create memories of love and laughter. Throw a few things in your bag, grab your shades and sunscreen, you will be deep in the Islands in no time. Feel the soft Caribbean trade winds as the palms sway and the calypso plays. Hang out at Bomba Shack after playing in the hot sun all day. Swim off of a white sand beach in crystal clear turquoise water.
Rent a Jeep and see all of the beaches on the North Shore from Josiah's Bay to Smugglers Cove. Dance the night away at a beach side bar. Surf at Apple or Cane Garden Bay.
