Bear Woods Cabin is an authentic log cabin at the base of Massanutten Mountain sitting at the top of a hill surrounded by mountain views. The cabin provides a private upscale retreat in a rustic setting.
The cabin was built in 1981 and remodeled in 2011 featuring exposed pine log beams and walls. The floors are hand scraped teak and the cabinets are hickory. The kitchen tabletop is hand made from pine boards salvaged from a barn built in 1889. It’s the perfect place to unwind.
The cabin has three comfortable bedrooms and a well-appointed kitchen. The family room has a large flat-panel television with cable and DVR. Rock your cares away on the long front porch in rocking chairs looking across the Shenandoah Valley into the mountains to the east.
This is the perfect couples' get away. Relax and spend time together in the comfortable living room in front of the gas fireplace.
The cabin is ideal for a family. The kids' bedroom sleeps three and is designed to keep kids busy, happy, and comfortable with a flatscreen TV, cable, toys, games, and game console with over 50 games.
In a small private neighborhood near the entrance of the Massanutten Four Season Resort, it is a short drive to skiing, snow tubing, and a large indoor water park plus many other resort amenities. The cabin is also a short drive east to the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive or west to Harrisonburg and James Madison University.
My wife and I are graduates of James Madison University and fell in love with the area. Our son is a student at JMU now too. We enjoy visiting our cabin with our family and want to share it with others.
Bill purchased this cabin in 2013
Massanutten is a fun and beautiful area. We fell in love with the log cabin and there are so many activities locally.
Located conveniently near the entrance of Massanutten resort at the top of a small private neighborhood. The views are amazing. The home is an authentic log cabin and you are surrounded by beautiful wood. The cabin is at the top of a hill; it's like staying in a tree house. Close to JMU, Harrisonburg, Elkton, and the Shenandoah National Park.
This is a really nice cabin. I think it might be nicer in person than the pictures on vrbo. It has really nice amenities including a great setup in the kids room. The front porch is great with a really nice view of the valley through the trees. Owner has also created a nice area to turn around the car in the backyard which helps negate the fact the driveway is steep which is the case for every house in the neighborhood. There are also 2 level parking spots in front of the cabin. Literally 2 minutes from the waterpark and restaraunts. Owner was great to deal with and has laid everything out in a nice info packet in the cabin. We will certainly be back!
Owner was very easy to work with and an excellent communicator!
The location was superb and the cabin was perfect!
Highly recommend staying at this cabin!
This home/cabin was the perfect location for our family's graduation celebration for our daughter. It was clean, well stocked with cookware, comfortable and convenient. We had a short 15-20 min drive to JMU campus for the ceremonies. The cabin was the perfect place to relax and enjoy our time together. We didn't want to deal with the over crowded streets, restaurants, etc...so the quiet of the woods, sitting on the front porch, cooking our own meals was just what we were looking for. Thank you for sharing your gem in the mountains!!
I arrived on a Thursday to stay over for a meeting at JMU. This is an awesome cabin with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable living spaces, excellent audio/video systems and comfortable beds. The host works hard to make sure stay is flawless. That includes scrupulously clean interior, well maintained exterior and clear instructions on opening and closing and operation of the audio and video equipment. The location is convient to all sorts of outdoor fun and many great restaurants. The Thunderbird Cafe just down the road was excellent and the drive into Harrisonburg is a beautiful 20 minute jaunt. This is a beautiful and comfortable cabin, you will enjoy a restful and comfortable stay. This is a top notch cabin!
We stay in rentals frequently and have been in many lovely homes over the past 8 years. However, this is the first time I'm taking the time to write a review and I'm writing it because this home stands out in an exceptional way. This authentic log cabin is impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, conveniently located, and stocked to perfection! From a bandaid and ouchy freezer pack for my son who bumped his head to ziplock bags and a shelf full of paper towels and toilet paper, the home was lacking nothing. The kids' room closet that was filled with toys, games, play doh, and movies kept my kids happy for hours on end. Every time they thought they had come to the end of that wonderful closet, out came another tin of Legos or puzzle to play with. If you're traveling with baby, there was a baby gate and pack n play as well. The kitchen was a dream. No skimpy supplies and dull knives here as in most rentals we've stayed in. This beautiful kitchen is stocked with heavy flatware, quality glassware/tableware as well as quality knives and pots/pans. Measuring cups/spoons, spices, colander, cheese grater, etc were all durable, expensive pieces. The beds are usually our biggest disappointment on vacation but once again, this cabin came through. Comfortable mattresses with extra pillows and plenty of soft blankets. The views from the porch and the idyllic setting made for a restful, quiet atmosphere that was perfect for a weekend away. And there are many reasons to book this home during non ski season. We enjoyed the mini golf and driving range at the resort only a mile away and then spent a wonderful afternoon at a local farm picking pumpkins and enjoying fall. We will most definitely be returning to this lovely cabin in the woods. You can book this one with confidence!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend at this lovely cabin. Impeccably clean, charming, and well-stocked for cooking, it was perfect for the two of us. The porch rockers were a favorite, and we spent hours enjoying the woodsy view. The owner was responsive and friendly, and provided perfectly detailed instructions on everything from the waffle maker to the DVD! Only one caveat: it is cozy with more sleeping than living space, so maybe best for smaller groups or folks who will be mostly enjoying the area's many attractions. We'd love to come back!

The property is not recommended for guests that are not comfortable walking up a steep grade. The driveway is steep and 4 wheel drive is recommended for driving to the top of the paved blacktop driveway in wet or icy conditions.
