“Rustic Retreat' - Come stay in our Cabin and feel the warmth that we have created in this special home built in 2005 by the local Mennonites. This home is 1 1/2 miles from HWY 111, located in a Log Home community called 'Cozy Cabin Retreat' on a secluded 2.5 acres. No Highway noise here, just peace and quiet and lots of stars! Whether you come for a short weekend or a longer stay, you are sure to relax and enjoy small town living and all the beauty that the Cumberland Plateau offers. One of the special features of this home is the Custom Treehouse and will provide hours of activity for the children! An old Logging Trail is located behind our home that you can hike on and see native vegetation and wildlife. The front porch has a screened in porch that provides an additional outdoor dining area and rockers to rock off the stress of everyday life. Out the back door boasts an elevated large deck that will also provide additional outdoor dining and lounging and overlooks the lush hardwood forest that has a weather creek that runs down the hill during certain times of the year. Our home has been decorated with pieces of history that we have found from locals but also has all of the luxuries one would want.

I have many years experience in the Hospitality Industry and I had the pleasure of renting my home that I currently live in, prior to moving to Tennessee full time. I enjoyed sharing my home with families that were coming to the area to enjoy family vacations together. Once moving to Tennessee full time, we longed for the opportunity to find the perfect getaway to share once again. With the help of supportive family members and friends we have made this possible. I look forward to meeting new families and sharing all that this beautiful area has to offer. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable, enjoyable and memorable as possible.
Mary Newman purchased this cabin in 2013
This area is rich in nature and small town culture. Fall Creek Falls is the backdrop for this area, which is why I fell in love with this area almost 10 years ago, and provides days of activities. Whether you choose to go on day trips every day and back to a campfire at night, or just relax indoors at Rustic Retreat, we are sure you will enjoy your stay.
If you are looking for a home 'off the beaten path' and far away enough from the Highways, this is it!!! Enjoy sitting on the front porch in the rocking chairs reading a book or just relaxing. Watch the hummingbirds come within your reach! Make a fire outside in the fire pit in the evenings and have a glass of wine or roast a marshmallow! Enjoy taking day trips to Fall Creek Falls, Burgess Falls, Rock Island State parks and enjoy the waterfalls, hiking, swimming in the falls and have a picnic lunch. Take a trip to Chattanooga to visit the art bluff district and have a gourmet lunch or go to the aquarium.
Our stay at the Rustic was wonderful. The cottage had everything we need for us to feel right at home. Anything we needed was tended to right away by Mary and her handsome handy man ;) . The location was great for going to Nashville and Chattanooga and everywhere in between. The shower and the bed fit my 6ft 6inch husband perfectly. The bed was very comfortable and inviting. The fireplace added the little bit of warmth I needed on the few days that it was used only do to the fact Tennessee was having a week of Indian summer. Mary and David are welcome in our home anytime they are great couple and fun to be around. So don't delay stay!
This was a beautiful location. Bring your own drinking water, the tap water was not drinkable in my opinion. Also note, the master mattress is VERY firm.
The cabin was very nice! We had a great time relaxing, exploring outside & playing games! Our two boys loved their room & slept great! We were very comfortable in our room, except for the pillows. We wished we had brought our own. Even so, the bed itself was cozy.
The only other small things that may need addressing would be the temp of the water in the kids' bathroom. It was only lukewarm even if you turned all the way. In ours, the temp was perfectly fine.
Also, the coffeemaker - probably needs to be replaced. It would not close well & would shoot hot water out everywhere.
These are small things & did not keep us from enjoying our time there. We would definitely stay here again!
A great place to escape. Very cozy, comfortable with all the amenities of home. A treehouse and fire pit with nice deck with grill. Not far from several parks with trails and thirty minutes from Cookville. I enjoyed the screened in porch where we enjoyed eating breakfast. Located in the woods with no traffic was even better!
We enjoyed our three night stay at the cabin. We were traveling with an 8y.o. kid and a little dog. Everything was perfect.
Mary was kind enough to offer us fresh eggs and okra (both delicious).
The cabin is also very close (driving) to Fall Creek Falls.
Would come back any time.
Loved our stay! Well kept, clean and even had some tomatoes and peppers waiting for us picked from the garden! The kids enjoyed the "Pay it Forward" game played by the previous guest. It gave us something to do while it rained. Thanks again!
Fall Creek Falls, Burgess Falls, Cummins Falls and Cumberland Caverns all just a short scenic drive from the Rustic Retreat! The town of Sparta is just 15 minutes up the road where you can dine, Antique and fill all your shopping needs during your stay. Wineries, Jack Daniels and George Dickel Distillery, perfect for a day trip. Cookeville is 30 minutes away where you can spend the entire day shopping, Antiquing and dining. There is also a large cinema for movie viewing.
