About the property

Cashew Villa can be rented as 1, 2 or 3 bedroom self-catering units

Cashew Villa is perched on a ridge, high above the Caribbean Sea. The pool deck and living areas offer spectacular views over the sea, and the Piton Mountains. The self-contained apartment on the lower level can be rented separately or along with the main villa. The accomodation suits outdoor types, there are a lot of great walks nearby. Rental car or jeep is recommended but not essential. The town of Soufriere is 1.5 miles away, Anse Chastanet Resort, Marine Reserve and beach 1 mile away.

In the Area: Cashew Villa is located high on a ridge between the town of Soufriere and Anse Chastanet beach, home of the Anse Chastanet Resort. The beach is public, and a favourite of our guests. Available facilities include snorkeling and scuba diving in a Marine Reserve, mountain biking, tennis, windsurfing, sunfish sailing, and a great beachside restaurant for lunch and dinner. There are many more dining options in and around Soufriere, from local chicken and rotis to top quality international cuisine. Just outside Soufriere you will find the Diamond Mineral Baths, Botanic Gardens, waterfalls, Rainforest, and 'Drive-in' volcano.

Around the island: Soufriere is located on the south-west coast of the island, on the Caribbeean Sea. Part of the Windward Island chain, St. Lucia measures only 20 miles long by 14 wide. The interior is rugged, with lush tropical rain forest covering the steep mountain slopes. The most impressive mountains are the twin Pitons, sheer-walled peaks which rise up from the sparkling Caribbean Sea. The coastline offers many wonderful beaches, ranging from the golden shell sand of Reduit Beach in the north, to the dark volcanic sand of Anse Chastanet Bay in the south.

Supplies: There are several grocery shops and a Saturday morning market in Soufriere. Basic supplies are readily obtainable, even on a Sunday morning. The sound of a conch shell tells you when fresh fish has been landed.

A 'starter-pack' for first breakfast is included, and additional supplies can be ordered ahead of time, just e-mail a list and pay when you get here.

Our housekeeper, Berthia, is available to cook local-style meals, if required.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Brent & Lorene, Idaho,USA 'Outstanding value. Wow. This is a great spot. Where else can you shower like you feel you are outdoors and have a wonderful view of the Pitons? Spent 2 weeks here and loved every minute of it. Walked most of the time but this is only for the fit, young and tightly budgeted. Getting a vehicle is a must for most people. Thanks Chris and Joyce for your wonderful hospitality and making us feel like part of the family.'

Pamela Haag, Washington, dc: 'This is a delightful space for two, with a truly breathtaking view, in an ideal location for a relaxing winter vacation or for those interested in hiking and other activities. We would definitely recommend renting a four-wheel drive or SUV, however, if you rent a vehicle, as the ascent up the very steep hill to this location is nervewracking in a regular car!'

Bill and Evelyn, UK: Wonderful! We are already planning our next visit. Berthia really looked after us, we can't thank you enough for the great treatme

Private Paradise Part II

  • 5 of 5

We found St. Lucia & Cashew Villa BETTER the second time! Cashew is an excellent choice for a private spot near Soufriere and the Pitons. It is private, quiet overlooking the Sea and offers the most jaw-dropping view of the Pitons around! The outdoor setting/landscape is gorgeous, colorful and tropical. The unobstructed views out to ocean and pitons command you stop, pause, and be grateful in awe and wonder several times daily! The house is clean, furnished and stocked with all the essentials and overall comfortable. Windows /doors are open, outside creature noises come and go throughout the night. The home is a great base for adventures. You definitely need a car. The narrow, bumpy, winding dirt road leading up to the home is awful but manageable. It’s a good idea to plan your trips to/from the home well since it takes effort.

The walk down to Anse Chastanet beach is great! Not highly traveled. (approx. 20 min. down/35 up) We are athletic, and ritualized daily walk/run down. There are many well maintained and marked trails through the lush vegetation once you reach the 2nd beach. We liked hiking down, running the trails and trying to run up to the house and jump in the pool! The water at Anse Chastanet is not a clear light blue/turquoise, rather a deep jade. The sand a grayish brown, beach, quiet, clean, pristine, un-crowded. Sugar Beach is our favorite. Fabulous snorkeling, exotic setting between the pitons and the restaurant has an, exquisite ambiance for lunch.

If you love nature, less crowds and being immersed in the tropics, this part of the Island is for you! You can hike in the rainforest or up Gros Piton in the morning, go to a non-commercial exotic beach in the afternoon, relax in cashew’s lounge chairs/pool, dine at incredible restaurants & star gaze! We ventured up north for a day-Disappointment-Completely different! However it was rewarding to see more of the island.

Berthia is wonderful! She leaves dinner on arrival, & breakfast. She takes her job seriously & is available to help anytime with anything/everything . We had issues with the water supply not being available-she immediately came to the rescue.

Alvin, is great! Super friendly and eager to shell out advice on adventures or fix any problems. Take Alvin’s advice-he is spot on.

Only negative- the pool had a massive leak, only half-full-Still usable, just not as inviting or pretty. If the pool is a big point, check to be sure it is fixed.

Private Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We fully enjoyed our stay in the main villa. It was easy communicating with the owners for booking. They were prompt and helpful in answering questions. The villa is situated in a very quiet, private and tranquil spot, Its most impressive aspect is the VIEW! (More spectacular in person than pictures!!!) Eyes are always drawn to the magnificent Pitons, but the non-obstructed expansive view of the sea will make you smile with joy! After each day of exploring, we always felt like we were coming back to a private paradise!

The inside is basic, clean and comfortable, Wifi was decent and the master shower a treat. Plenty of hot water.

The walk down to Asne Chastanet beach (then on to the 2nd beach) takes 20 minutes, 1.5 miles, and the walk back up, 30 minutes (climb is 700 feet). Jumping into the pool straight after the hike up is a reward! I started taking this walk every early morning just for exercise, “nature’s gym!”

To be clear, the apartment is part of the main villa, downstairs, across the hall from the 2nd bedroom. A great fortune it was empty during our week, giving us total privacy with the pool all to ourselves. So, if you like your privacy, I’d rent the complete, otherwise if other renters, it would be a bit close.

The pool was sparkling clean, inviting and the grounds and deck are very well maintained.

A shout out to Berthia for her eagerness to answer questions, cleaning service and lining up a pair of pants for my husband to wear to the Dasheene!!!. And to Alvin, the night watch, is a smart, kind and extremely helpful resource in giving valuable tips in planning our excursions.

The only negative comment I have is the dirt road up to the villa! It is VERY TEDIOUS! A 4wd is necessary. Also, you have to drive to go into town or to any restaurants. We prefer being walking distance to the main village and restaurants. I guess it’s a trade off to get that tranquility and VIEW!!!!!

We were a bit disappointed in Asne Chastanet beach, with the darker volcanic sand, the water is not the clear turquoise blue, as experienced on other islands. We liked Sugar Beach, and found the snorkeling there the best. We especially liked hiking in the rain forest and up gros piton. We absolutely loved dining at the Haut, The Mango Tree and The Ladera’s Dasheene.

Bottom line: Thumbs up! I would rent Cashew Villa again and would recommend it to a good friend!

view to paradise

Found this jewel. The view of the Pitons can't be beat. The pool and furnishings were great. The beds weren't the best, but we still managed to sleep. We kept very busy with snorkeling which is an excellent island to do so.

Spectacular views, rainbows, privacy

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. The garden and pool were so beautiful and the view is to die for. Berthia and Alvin are so friendly. The drive up is steep and I'd recommend a 4wd, but that just adds to the adventure and sense of living somewhere special deep in the forest. Bugs were not a problem with a little bug spray. One is living in the rain forest, after all.

Very convenient to the best snorkeling and resorts, as well as all that Soufriere has to offer. Loved the zip lines and plantations tours nearby.

A special villa in a special place. Wish we could have stayed longer and hope to return someday!

Wonderful Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Cashew Villa is a wonderful spot for anyone seeking a low-key, beautiful vacation. We are a couple and stayed in the apartment downstairs. It is basic, but we loved the privacy, spectacular views, and ability to cook our own dinners and eat on the patio overlooking the Pitons. We definitely saw some critters--lizards, birds, bugs. But that's to be expected on a tropical island and we didn't mind at all. Overall the apartment and whole property are excellently maintained. The roads to the villa are scary by American standards, but we made it just fine in a regular (in fact quite old and beat up) rental car and got used to the trip up the hill by the end of the week. Berthia, Alvin, and Joyce were all very welcoming an helpful. Soufriere is a great location if you just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We recommend the botanical gardens, Anse Chastenet, Anse Jalousie for snorkeling (we thought it was better than Anse Chastenet), and a hike up Gros Piton. Thanks for a great vacation!
